    Swansea 0-2 Southampton

I think I might have magiced this into existence, writing Swansea off like that.

Out of nowhere they get their first shot away, as Josh Tymon sends a lovely curling effort off the edge of his boot and it drifts just over the bar.

Playing at home has been a struggle for Swansea throughout this season, though they have actually lost only one of their last seven games in all competitions before today.

It will take a remarkable turnaround from here for Luke Williams' side to avoid defeat.

    Southampton are cruising.

    Swansea 0-2 Southampton

The Swansea fans are a bit stunned after those two goals.

We're 25 minutes in and while the visitors have 10 shots - seven on target - and two goals, the hosts have yet to offer anything going forward.

    Fantastic play from Saints.

The pass from Stuart Armstrong to Will Smallbone looked so simple.

Probably should have been offside though.

That was far too easy for Southampton.

The visitors passed the ball around Swansea's defence like a knife cutting through butter.

Long ball forward from Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Stuart Armstrong then pulls the ball back to Will Smallbone who simply puts it into the net.

Arguably a call for offside in the build-up but the Southampton fans won't mind at this point.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16 mins

    Swansea 0-1 Southampton

We have our first booking of the afternoon as Southampton's Taylor Harwood-Bellis picks up a yellow card for sticking an arm out and bringing down a Swansea player.

    Swansea 0-1 Southampton

Swansea have a rare chance to go forward but they lose the ball and instantly Saints break on the counter with numbers.

Ryan Fraser gets a shot away that Carl Rushworth dives for - that's 8-0 to Southampton so far on the shot count, and we're only 15 minutes in...

It feels a bit panic-stations for Swansea, who are being carved open at the back whenever Southampton break forward.

You'd imagine this is not the start that Luke Williams hoped for, for his side.

    I thought it was 2-0!

    It should have been 2-0.

It's all Southampton at Swansea City.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 10 mins

    Swansea 0-1 Southampton

Southampton are in no way relenting after that goal.

Adam Armstrong has a shot at goal from distance and this time Carl Rushworth is ready for it.

A second later they're in behind the defence again and Rushworth has to make a double save to keep them out.

  11. Saints utterly dominantpublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

    Swansea 0-1 Southampton

Swansea City have not got started here, with Southampton utterly dominant in the opening exchanges and deservedly ahead already.

The Saints look capable of carving Swansea open every time they come forward.

Whatever Luke Williams' plan was to counter his old mate Russell Martin's in-form team, it has not worked thus far.

No wonder Russell Martin looks happy in the unfamiliar surroundings of the away dugout.

    Che Adams (6 mins)

A perfect start for Southampton as they find the opening goal only six minutes in.

Stuart Armstrong breaks into the box and manages to get around his defender to get a shot away.

While Carl Rushworth does dive and palms it away, it goes straight to the feet of Che Adams who has a simple tap-in into an open net.

    Swansea 0-0 Southampton

Southampton living up to their reputation for dominating possession, Swansea can't get a look-in on the ball yet.

  14. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Southampton

A moment of danger early for Swansea as Che Adams is picked out in space in the middle of the box and has time to get a shot away.

Sadly for Saints fans it's not on target, but the Swansea defence is going to need to tighten up on that evidence.

Southampton are keeping the ball well this first couple of minutes and Swansea seem content to let them do that for now.

Kyle Walker-Peters makes a weaving run down the right and whips in a cross, but it isn't on target and goes high and wide and out.

    Swansea v Southampton (12:30 GMT)

Had things been different, Russell Martin might still have been Swansea City's head coach now.

The Southampton boss savoured his two years at Swansea, with his team producing the best run of his reign in what proved his last couple of months in charge.

Martin's Swansea looked to be going places, but tensions in his relationship with the club's owners became increasingly apparent after a dismal transfer window last January.

When Southampton came calling last summer - and with no sign of Martin agreeing a new Swansea contract - his departure was inevitable.

While Martin is thriving at Saints, Swansea have lost their way this season, though the hope is that Luke Williams' recent arrival can change that.

  20. Can the record run continue?published at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

Southampton are on a club record run of 20 games unbeaten in all competitions - 19 in the league - a streak that runs all the way back to 23 September.

If they win today they will better a record that has stood since 1921.

More importantly, Saints are within three points of Ipswich and would move above them into the automatic promotion places with a win today, with their rivals not playing until Monday against league leaders Leicester.

The glimmer of good news for Swansea though is that Southampton’s form on the road is slightly less fearsome-looking than the stats suggest, with them having won only one of their past five trips away.
