  3. 'Hoping United give Chelsea a proper game'published at 13:39 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on BBC Two

I'm hoping that United come out of the blocks and give this Chelsea side a proper game in this second half, because they were cruising for the first 35 minutes.

I'm expecting a much better Manchester United in this half.

  4. 'Rachel Williams may come on earlier than expected'published at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Two

United are going to need to dig deep in the second half.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rachel Williams come on earlier than she normally does, I know she comes on as a super sub regularly but I think she may appear earlier than expected.

One Manchester United fan has clearly made their mind up about Marc Skinner.

How many of the other supporters will join them if United lose here?

A very sore one for Ella Toone, as Melanie Leupolz accidentally steps on her achilles.

The England midfielder is getting some treatment.

    Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd

It looked as though Emma Hayes was going to make a half-time change, with Sjoeke Nusken stripped and ready. But now she has put her training top back on and is sat back down.

No changes for Manchester United at the break either.

Katie: As a neutral I think it's time for Skinner to go. Give a new manager time to assess squad before summer. The last few games I've watched I can't see them finishing top 3 anyway so nothing to lose. Think Man U fans might be regretting booing James as well.

Although not a big fan of women’s football, I am a big fan of Chelsea and I’ll take any win against Man Utd! I also have to say that Lauren James is some player isn’t she? Better maybe than her brother who is constantly out injured!

...but Hayley Ladd had other ideas, striking back for United two minutes before half time.

It leaves this game perfectly poised going into the second half.

    HT: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Two

Chelsea should have been three or four goals up, easily. The way they carved Manchester United open in those first 10-15 minutes was incredible. They had numerous opportunities.

It was like Manchester United had just gotten off the bus, forgotten to warm up and had just come straight out onto the pitch for the game.United were lucky but they will be happy that they have clawed themselves back into it.

Emma Hayes will be furious that Chelsea have left the door open for United.

    Ellen White
Former England and Man City striker on BBC Two

If Chelsea had gone in to the break at 2-0 they would have been delighted with that performance.

You could see Chelsea had come off the back of that disappointing performance at West Ham and Emma Hayes had spoken to her players.

They came out all guns blazing and I thought there would be a lot more goals, but now Manchester United are back in it.

  14. 'United need to come out with more intensity in the second half'published at 13:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    HT: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on BBC Two

There was a slight break in play 15 minutes before the half for an injury and I said then they could have been given crucial instructions in that stoppage.

It seems that was the case because there seemed to be an injection of energy, Geyse got onto the ball a lot more and they got a goal back.

They just need to go in now, take a breath, take on some more instructions and come out with more intensity in the second half if they are to get something from this.

  15. Postpublished at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    HT: Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd

    Adam Millington
    BBC Sport at Stamford Bridge

It had been turning stale for Manchester United, but going two goals behind seemed to get across the magnitude of the situation.

They’ve got their avenue back into the game now and do look to be in the ascendency.

It wasn’t a case of Chelsea switching off, more like United finally finding their rhythm. They need to maintain that.

  16. Man City 'probably the best team in the league'published at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Manchester City v Liverpool (14.30 GMT)

Could Chelsea's strongest title challenger this season be Manchester City?

City are the form team in the WSL having ended 2023 with four wins on the bounce in which they scored 16 goals.

"We're three points behind Chelsea and have been the really dominant team," said manager Gareth Taylor.

"We've given ourselves a really good opportunity to go and attack things in the second half of the season."

Opponents Liverpool have recorded eye-catching wins against Manchester United and Arsenal.

"It will be exciting for the neutral definitely," said Reds manager Matt Beard. "City have probably been the best team in the league this season.

"But our games against them have been competitive."

Bristol City are the team at the bottom of the WSL, separated by goal difference from West Ham, who they beat 3-2 on the road in November.

The Robins' recent away form has been impressive having also drawn 2-2 at Everton and 1-1 at Liverpool.

Lauren Smith's side will aim to extend their fine away record when they visit Brighton - three points ahead of them in 10th.

For Brighton manager Melissa Phillips though, it's "business as usual".

  18. Team news - Terland starts for Brighton; Bristol City unchangedpublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January
