I knew Hodgson would send on Olise. That's shocking. Is he really thinking that we will get anything out of this game? Risking the survival of the club [by risking Olise aggravating his injury problems] to try and save his job. Unacceptable.

That is twice now from the start of the second half that Barkley has been closed down very quickly.

That didn't happen in the first half.

Jacob Murphy looks so elegant on the ball today. His final ball hasn't been great but he looks very good.

    Huge chance for Newcastle!

Jacob Murphy beats the full-back on the left but can't get it across to Bruno Guimaraes as Thomas Kaminski's outstretched leg gets in the way.

Guimaraes would have had an open goal.

Re Martin Keown @ 15.42. I get what he's saying regarding Palace being a different team without Eze and Olise. At the end of the day though, they're not defenders are they?

I thought Gordon looked a bit tired and weary.

They have been waiting a long time to be able to switch players and give them a bit of a rest. It makes perfect sense to me.

He did well but he was looking a little tired.

    Brighton 3-0 Crystal Palace

Michael Olise, who was deemed not fit enough to start, is sent on for the second half in place of Jeffrey Schlupp.

Is it an unnecessary risk to send him on at 3-0 down? A bold decision by Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson.

I think Eddie Howe at half-time will have said more of the same, just keep it tight at the back and keep the ball better. I just expect Newcastle eventually to start playing some football and create some calmness.

Luton have shown quality and organisation. They have shown at times they can play, but also have gone long. Intelligent football with togetherness as well. Plus loads of character.

Ross Matthewman: I’m not a Palace fan but I totally understand the frustration with Hodgson. He was brought in as a stopgap but his job is done and he needs to go. What doesn’t help is his growing dismissiveness of the fans and his very generous reading of his own CV.

  20. 'So much character in the team'published at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    FT: Everton 2-2 Tottenham

    Everton

    Sean DycheImage source, Getty Images

Everton manager Sean Dyche speaking to BBC Sport, first on if the late equaliser made the draw feel like three points: "I don't know about that but I thought the mentality was excellent.

"We know they are a good side. We were very good today, worked to cause trouble for them and I thought we did enough to get something from the game.

"There are a few things we can question about their goals but there is a lot of good that comes out of that performance."

On the team's character: "There are so many good things and so much character in the team. It shows even when we're stretched, young lads coming off the bench, there are good signs about what we are trying to achieve here amid all the adversity and all the noise.

"We still can't get a penalty - I don't know what that is about."

On Everton's strength at set-pieces: "It's a valid part of the game, it's something the staff work hard on. Inevitably it's about the will and demand to go and score the goal, after quality into the box."

On Jarrad Branthwaite's equaliser: "It's a great header, it's a brave header. Who knows [with VAR] at the minute. I don't think anyone can make head nor tails of it. I don't know how we didn't get a penalty.

"[Our mentality] has been on show all season. We are stretched at the minute."
