  1. 'United should have killed the game off'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Alan Shearer
Former England and Newcastle striker on BBC One

For 35 minutes, it was one way traffic. It was just a matter of how many Man United were going to score. Their attitude has been really impressive, but the one thing you can say is that United should have been further ahead. One bit of brilliance from Bryn Morris has got Newport back in this.

    BBC Sport chief football writer

Bryn Morris’ goal was just what Newport County and this FA Cup fourth-round tie needed. Even the fervent Newport County support had gone relatively quiet, such was Manchester United’s comfort and dominance. Now “The Amber Army” has hope and we have a game on our hands.

  3. 'Klopp's goodbye tour in English football will be great'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    FT: Liverpool 5-2 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich City manager David Wagner speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "On the other side it was quite nice to be the first team taking part in this tour of English football [for Jurgen Klopp]. We competed against a top side. The win is fair, they were the better side and this is how we take it.

"If you like to be competitive here you have to have a top goalkeeper and a side who are brave which we were. It was difficult for us, we concede the defeat and we are unfortunately out of this competition and now I can wish Jurgen and Liverpool all the best."

"We said whatever happened today will not influence what happens in the Championship but we were able to bring one or two players closer to our team with game time today. We have seen that even against the best you can create opportunities. There were lots of things that we can learn as a team and individually. It means nothing for the Championship because it was a different competition.

On the atmosphere at Anfield for Klopp: "I think he got everything what he deserved, I think this goodbye tour in English football will be a great one for him and hopefully with a lot of success so I wish him from the bottom of my heart all the best for all the competitions which he is involved in and all the luck which he needs for sure as well."

On whether he thinks Klopp can win all four trophies: "He says it's nearly impossible and if he says it's near impossible, I will say the same but nearly impossible means not impossible so I think he and everyone else knows exactly how difficult it is, I would love now to see how they compete and nobody knows what will happen."

  4. Rashford needs 'needs strong management'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    HT: Newport 1-2 Man Utd

    Alan Shearer
Former England and Newcastle striker on BBC One

If it is an internal matter you would think something is up. There is a huge talent in there with Marcus Rashford. We saw him be disciplined last season when he was late for a meeting and he actually missed a game but something is clearly wrong either at home or with his relationship with the football club because he can’t keep doing this.

He can’t waste his talent, it’s not right and he needs strong management and someone to get hold of him and say ‘you know what, if you get to the end of your career and have huge regrets, you can’t have that.’

It needs sorting now because 30 goals last season and four this season, it looks like he has the world on his shoulders when I see him play.

Now then if you have tuned in and are wondering where Marcus Rashford is for Manchester United this afternoon, manager Erik ten Hag said the England forward had “reported ill," in his pre-match interview.

However, that is far from the end of it given reports emerged at the weekend saying the 26-year-old had been in a nightclub in Northern Ireland on Thursday evening hours before failing to attend training on Friday.

Asked specifically about that Ten Hag said, "It’s an internal matter. I will deal with it.”

  6. 'Newport must address Garnacho danger at the break'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    HT: Newport 1-2 Man Utd

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

Garnacho is a real threat, he was offside there but he keeps getting in. Newport really need to address that at half-time.

Jon 17:10. You took the words right out of my mouth. The guy gets absolutely no service at all. What happened to the days of fast wingers going round the outside of the defender and whipping the ball in?

Great to watch these FA Cup games without VAR. When will the authorities realise that there are far fewer refereeing controversies in these games than there are VAR controversies in games that have VAR?
