More from Chelsea boss Emma Hayes speaking to Sky Sports:

On record signing Mayra Ramirez: "She is pretty powerful and quick. If she gets down the side of you and you end up in a 50/50 with her, good luck. She works back for the team. Someone who doesn't speak English, has only had a handful of sessions with the team, and a really good debut.

"For starters she has to get used to the English weather, it was a cold night at Kingsmeadow! But no the run for the second penalty was great, a great dart down the side of the box - again I didn't see it so I don't know if it was a penalty or not, the ref thought it was."

On the third goal: "Yes I think we were definitely in control by that point. Everton always show great flashes but I think we have got more solid with every game, are tougher to break down."

On the squad: "How could you not be happy? I've got so much quality in the squad. I know how impatient players are, of course everyone wants to play, but I'll do my best."

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes speaking to Sky Sports: "We absolutely had to show patience in that game, and I didn't think we had enough of it in the first half. We had so much energy and the players just wanted to do everything at 100 miles per hour and it didn't help us.

"I said to them 'Calm down! We have the whole game to play.' I can't fault the players though, they want to win, they want to play well, I thought our quality did show through in the second half.

"Our issue in the first half was our impatience in possession that created the transitions between both teams, but yes, happy all around.

"We deserved to win the game. I have never seen us get two penalties in a game before, so that's a first! And a good debut for Mayra Ramirez."

On the penalty calls: "I haven't watched it [the first one]. I can't have an opinion because I didn't see it. "

Everton captain Megan Finnigan speaking to Sky Sports: "It definitely didn’t feel like a 3-0 game for us. The two penalties I will have to see back but at the time I thought were a bit questionable. Apart from that there were a lot of positives to take. We’re disappointed because I don’t think 3-0 reflected the game but we’ll take the positives from it."

On the mood in the dressing room: "It’s difficult but we have to just keep going. We’re doing the right things as a team and we believe we’re going in the right direction and that the points will definitely come."

  7. 'Lots of positives we can take'published at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February

    Everton

Everton assistant manager Stephen Neligan speaking to Sky Sports: "You always know it’s going to be tough coming to a place like this against such a quality side. Scoreline aside I think there’s lots of positives we can take from the performance. There are still a lot of things we can improve on. It is what it is I guess."

On if the two penalty decisions were harsh: "It’s hard to see from where I was standing. I saw the replay of the second one which potentially could have gone either way. You could say both of them we were hard done by but it is what it is. Players are disappointed that the game is decided on decisions like that which could have gone either way."

On why manager Brian Sorensen was sent off: "I have no idea, I sit up at the top so I couldn’t see down below what was happening."

More from Erin Cuthbert speaking to Sky Sports:

On the first penalty call: "Honestly I have not seen a replay but she [Johanna Rytting-Kaneryd] did say she was hit, she showed me the mud on her ankle and I take her word for it. I trust that, she is an honest player."

On her goal: "We had a really good passage in the warm up and we said it was going to pay off, and it did. I want to score more goals, Emma is challenging me to get higher up the pitch and chip in with more goals so I was happy to do that today."

On record signing Mayra Ramirez: "Wow. How exciting was she! I'm sure all the fans will be super excited watching from home because she is an absolute unit, so fun, so hard to get the ball off, and exactly what we needed in January.

"She doesn't speak a lot of English so to come in and gel so quickly to the team and the league is a credit to her."

Player of the Match Erin Cuthbert speaking to Sky Sports: "We were chatting about results earlier today and we knew it wasn't going to be easy to break Everton down. They played some really good football and broke our press a little bit.

"We went in at half time and re-grouped, came out more compact in the second half and that enabled us to go on and build more attacks in the second half."

On why they found it difficult to break Everton down: "I think it is just this league. Teams are getting better, more competitive, fitter, they are better coached, and it is not a given that we win every game. We saw that across the league today. It is going to be tough but we just need to keep knocking on the door.

"We showed it doesn't always have to be perfect football. It was super windy and the ball was bouncing around a lot, which isn't really suited to our play or players. But I thought we showed our quality throughout."

In terms of Chelsea getting a good amount of goals, I did expect them to win the game comfortably. However I didn't expect them to win in the fashion they did.

Everton made themselves difficult to break down, they were stubborn in defence and were unlucky for the scoreline to end more than just 1-0.

There were few clear chances and it did not feel more than a single goal game really. Chelsea grew into the game eventually and added more goals, and Everton couldn't find the answers.

Oh. Come on... Did Clare Wheeler make any protests when she fouled Ramirez? Or any of the rest of the Everton team? Of course they didn't because they had no arguments against the decision. Then that makes it a clear penalty.

'Stand up for the Champions' is the chant from the stands. They might be singing that for a while yet at Kingsmeadow.

We are into seven minutes of added time which feels unnecessary.
