  2. 'I'm thinking about the Euros'published at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "If I said I wasn't thinking about the Euros I would be lying to you. I want to score as many goals as possible. I feel like I am doing that. I am confident and I am playing my best football.

"I have played Premier League football for a number of years now. I missed out on the last Euros squad because it was my first season in the Premier League. Now I have been in the Premier League for a number of years. I am scoring, I am established, so it is down to the manager if he wants to pick me."

Barkley is playing the best football of his life! I always thought of him as a “luxury” player but he's the heart and soul of this Luton team. I’m not a Luton fan but I’d love them to stay up.

    FT: Brentford 2-2 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, speaking to Premier League Productions: "We are frustrated because I think after this game when we saw the first half, we maybe deserved to score one goal more and then in the second half they pushed but we have to do better because I think that today we lost two points."

On his equaliser: "I'm happy to score this goal, with this goal we didn't lose so it's good but it would be a better feeling if the goal was for the win. It is not the case for today but I hope it will be the case in the future."

On Chelsea's character to come back: "It's the positive point of the second half, we didn't drop down, we kept pushing and at the end we scored so it's this mentality we have to keep if we want success in the future."

  5. 'The Euros, that's where I want to be'published at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, speaking to Sky Sports:

On his goals: "I am happy with this as I don't score many from direct corners. The second one I knew I wasn't off-side but it's that dreaded VAR. I was just focusing on the control and taking it early. I had four or five chances tonight and I just had to be patient and believe I was going to score when I got the ball.

"I think the manager has a lot of faith in me. He keeps working with me. My game understanding has got a lot better. So a bit smarter and I am looking forward to the last stretch and the end of the season."

On his 2023-24 targets: "Firstly, with Europe, we have Ajax on Thursday which is a massive game. It is a big draw and we are looking forward to that. I feel like we are doing brilliantly with the injuries we have got. I think to be up there and pushing for the Champions League is incredible. And for me personally, I feel like I am going to score every game and that's all I can do.

"Hopefully at the end of the season, Euros, that's where I want to be."

  6. 'Fighting chance'published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Luton Town

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards, speaking to Sky Sports: "Bitterly disappointed. The goals were avoidable, all three of them, as they always are. We gave the ball away too cheaply and gave away a corner, conceded from the corner. A quick free-kick and the third goal is reminiscent of Liverpool here or elements of Arsenal here so late on.

"There was so much to like about the performance. Villa are so organised and a good team and it is not easy to score goals against them. They can hit you hard with counter-attacks or control the game. They are a very good team. I thought we dominated the second half and had an outstanding performance.

"At 2-0 down there's nothing to lose. If we are going to lose the game let's lose it our way. I think that pushed the players to have a little less fear. I think the players carried out a lot of adjustments we made from the Manchester City game well today. We did one or two things at half-time and I thought we came out and performed brilliantly. But it's tough to take right now."

On Amari'i Bell's injury: "I don't know the extent of it at the moment but we can't moan about it. We can't complain, we can only keep together and find solutions.

"You can never guarantee that you will or won't be in the league next season. But if we perform like that, as we have done consistently for a long time, we give ourselves a fighting chance."

  7. 'Watkins' commitment is brilliant'published at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, speaking to BBC Match of the Day about Ollie Watkins: "Brilliant. His commitment is brilliant and the consequence is this when he works hard every day. He is always working for the team and then he is working to score and also hold up the ball and fighting with the centre-back."

  8. 'Good feeling'published at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Fulham 3-0 Brighton

    Fulham

    Marco SilvaImage source, Getty Images

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking to Premier League Productions: "Really pleased and a great team performance. We were brave and knew when to press. We had a good mix and executed our game-plan really well. We were more assertive in the first half rather than the second.

"The spine of the team did really well this afternoon and we knew it would be important to win that battle."

On goalscorer Rodrigo Muniz: "He is improving, improving and improving.

"We are working on many things and he's getting better. It was a great goal from him.

"The way he linked the game was great too. He was really important throughout the game and it was another important performance, that's not a surprise for us because he did it last weekend too."

On consistency after winning successive games: "It's really difficult to have back-to-back wins in the league, we haven't had many this season.

"It's very important and gives a good feeling. After the last home game against Aston Villa it was important to react and we did that against Manchester United and then another good win today.

"We want as many points as we can to climb up the table."

  9. 'I believe we can do this'published at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Luton Town

Luton Town boss Rob Edwards, speaking to Match of the Day: "We have to defend the final [stages] better, we have to brush up on those things.

"We will continue to work hard on that and if we don't we know what will happen. The boys were incredible especially in the second half.

"We got done in the first half with two set-pieces, but in the second half we were outstanding - we pushed them back and dominated the game."

On losing being because of mentality: "No, I don't think so. It's all linked, we have to learn. It's hard to think about positives, but there is so much to like.

"If we can keep massive aspects of what we are doing then I believe we can do this. There are little areas we have to improve on quickly.

"We finished the game with not many defenders on the pitch. It is hard with injuries, but I am not going to complain about it.

"The lads took their chance today, it was an outstanding performance against an outstanding football team. Villa have great individuals and are very well coached."

On Tahith Chong: "He has real qualities and a brilliant personality on the ball that is why we brought him to the football club.

"The fans have taken to him and he is working hard and like all of us he has areas to improve on."

  10. 'We made a miracle'published at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Fulham 3-0 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi on facing Roma in the Europa League on Thursday: "I have a big confidence in my players.

"First of all in the human part and I know when we lose this game we have a reaction.

"I don't know if we lose or win on Thursday but I'm sure we will play with another attitude, energy and character.

"We deserve to be in the final eight of the Europa League. Last season we made a miracle and we want to compete in our way for sure."

  11. Team-mates 'stood by me' - Wernerpublished at 20:13 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Tottenham 3-1 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Forward Timo Werner on the importance of his first Tottenham goal: "Absolutely, especially after the first half when I missed the big chance. It was important for me and the team that I scored this goal and we came back into the game.

"They stood behind me at half-time and said I should keep going. That is what I tried. It always feels good that you have a group that says nothing about it. They were supportive. It helps me and the whole team."

  12. 'We don't think about the top four'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa manager Unai Emery speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We are improving and we are trying to build a team, a structure, a mentality and today the third goal was mentality. We are accepting each moment who we are and trying to build the team with a big commitment.

"This is the spirit. Moussa Diaby crossing and Lucas Digne doing the header. It was fantastic.

"We are aware about how it is going our way and we are still in the same message for everybody. We are going to keep going every day. We can't think if we are going to be a contender to be in the top five or four.

"Tottenham is pushing as well and Manchester United are playing tomorrow. They show us, and Newcastle as well, they are very good teams and they show us they can recover the position in the table. I don't want to think they are not being there.

"Now were are going to focus on the Europa Conference League. We are very excited. We play Ajax. A historic club. To play Ajax in Europe [is a privilege]. And then we play Tottenham and for us it is a very good week."

  13. 'We deserved to lose'published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Fulham 3-0 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We didn't play well, we deserved to lose.

"We are in a tough period with a lot of injuries and a lot of games. We knew before the season started that this season could be so tough.

"The level is changing and it's a challenge for us. To keep this level we have to push every day and every game to compete in a lot of competitions.

"We lost in the FA Cup on Wednesday, today in the Premier League and on Thursday we're in the Europa. We are learning if we can keep this level or if we need to go back to one game a week.

"This is not just about the level of the players but also the staff, the coaches, video analysts, everyone who works at Brighton. We have to show character and passion otherwise we can't stay at this level."

  14. 'Hard to put into words'published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Luton Town

    Carlton MorrisImage source, PA Media

Luton Town's Carlton Morris, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we got ourselves back into the game and had chances to take the lead and that is where we need to mature as a team as it has happened one too many times."

On the second half: "We knew we could come out of duals better and take the game to them, in the second half the performance has been there this season but it's just about coming away with points.

"These are the basic game fundamentals and we need to improve on them. Unfortunately at this level you get punished for switching off.

"We are confident on the ball and we have evolved since the start of the season."

On losing again: "Honestly, it is hard to put into words and it's so frustrating, but that is life and football - we need to work on what we can control.

"Team spirit is a real strength of ours and we will get together and learn."

  15. 'We need to put it into context'published at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Brentford 2-2 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "In the first half we played well, really really well. We controlled the game and we created chances and we didn't concede too much. In the second half they started to play direct and we started to lose in some ways and we conceded when we did.

"It was tough for us, we had the chances, you know the chances to score and lead the game and then when we conceded the second, I think we showed character. That is the most important thing, building this character and then we need to put it into context. Three games in six days was tough and not too many changes. The team deserved more but unluckily we did not get the three points.

On struggling to contain Brentford in the second half: "I think we started to lose the duels in the middle, in the central areas and then we suffered from some crosses and that is why we conceded. When we concede so early in the second half, it changed the game and their belief increased. We showed character and that is why I am so pleased with that.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't get the three points but in some points pleased because after the sixth day and the third game, I think the effort was massive. Overall we deserved the three points."

  16. 'Huge sigh of relief'published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, speaking to Sky Sports: "I just feel a sigh of relief really. They kept putting pressure on all game. They score a lot of goals and the fans make it a tough place to come. It's a massive result.

On getting complacent at 2-0 up: "We had the same instance at Nottingham Forest at home last week. They put a lot of pressure on us. I think we are a little bit too comfortable or relaxed because you have a lead. Luton pushed us to the wire tonight but Lucas [Digne] came on and got the winning goal.

"I feel maybe in the second half I was a bit sloppy. I felt we needed to stay on the ball a bit better. They were going man-to-man and in the first half we were playing it up to me and playing off me and second half the midfield wasn't close enough to me.

"We relax when we are two goals ahead and it happened at Manchester United too. It's something we need to look at. There's something happening and we need to to do something there."

  17. Watkins hits form ahead of Euro 2024published at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Ollie Watkins has been directly involved in 26 Premier League goals this season, the outright most of any player in the competition (16 goals, 10 assists). Meanwhile, Watkins has scored eight goals across his last eight Premier League games away from home. The striker has netted nine away goals in the competition this season, the joint-most such strikes in a single Premier League campaign for Aston Villa (alongside Dwight Yorke in 1997-98).

  18. 'It puts us back in contention'published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Newcastle 3-0 Wolves

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm really pleased. It was a tough game - Wolves’ away form has been really strong. I think we had quite a shaky start. We didn’t really dominate [early on] but the [first] goal really made a big difference.

"It was evident it made a difference to everyone within the stadium, then we scored a really good second goal. The third goal came a little too late for us to enjoy the second half.

"Our form has been pretty good since the turn of the year. Hopefully we can return to our best levels. This was a big game for us back at home. We now go away to some tough places. [The win] puts us back in contention."

On Tino Livramento: "He’s an incredible athlete. He’s done very well whenever he’s played for us this season. I thought it was a great goal."

On Kieran Trippier's injury: "He felt a slight pain in his calf, so let’s wait and see."

Luton are not an easy three points! Got to love the determination! Rob Edwards makes them believe! I see him in a top job in a few years time!

    Neilob

Luton this season remind me so much of when Blackpool came up in 2010. Praised on all sides for their entertaining football and scrappy spirit, but the results just kept slipping out from under them. A great addition to the Premier League, but maybe not for long.

  20. 'This was a Brentford performance'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Brentford 2-2 Chelsea

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I was in my own room but I could hear and let's just say they were animated in a very positive and constructive way and they suggested a few adjustments, being braver on the ball and putting in a few more crosses in the box and they did everything.

"For me, so much positive to take out of this game."

On the Brentford identity: "We saw that today, this was a Brentford performance, an identity I'm very proud of and I'm very proud when we play like this. With initiative, intensity, aggressive, we pressed high, we go after it, I was very, very pleased."

On Yoane Wissa's goal: "Fantastic goal, I must praise the ref Jarred [Gillet], fantastic to give the advantage, there was a foul on Ivan [Toney] so well done on refereeing and it was a fantastic finish."
