  1. CLOSE!published at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Real Madrid 0-0 RB Leipzig (1-0 agg)

This might not be as straightforward as everyone expects. RB Leipzig are holding their own and creating half chances. A free-kick finds its way to captain Willi Orban at the back post and he should do better than head wide.

And seconds later Lois Openda has a great chance, runs down the left channel and shoots across goal, but pulls it wide of the post.

It may be all done at the Etihad, but not so at the Bernabeu.

If there was one thing FC Copenhagen keeper Kamil Grabara could have done without then, it was a couple of replays of Manchester City's second goal being played on the big screen opposite him.

The crowd gasped when they saw a replay of Grabara fumbling Julian Alvarez's shot.

  3. Postpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Man City 2-0 FC Copenhagen (5-1 agg)

Kamil Grabara is wearing a mask after sustaining a facial fracture in 2022.

Did the mask slip when Julian Alvarez scored?

Whatever happened, it was a mistake the Copenhagen keeper will not want to see again.

  4. Postpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Real Madrid 0-0 RB Leipzig (1-0 agg)

A first chance for Real Madrid. Aurelien Tchouameni crosses from deep and Vinicius Jr, under pressure, can only bounce the ball off the top of his chest and wide it goes.

At the other end, Lois Openda shoots well wide when he should've done better.

It's poor handling from the goalkeeper. It's a calamitous error.

  6. Postpublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Real Madrid 0-0 RB Leipzig (1-0 agg)

Benjamin Sesko runs through on the Real Madrid goal and surely he is offside. He shoots, only to be denied by Andriy Lunin before the assistant confirms that Sesko was indeed miles offside and the last 10 seconds had been a waste of time.

  7. Postpublished at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Real Madrid 0-0 RB Leipzig (1-0 agg)

First bright move from Real Madrid and Federico Valverde, close to the right touchline, slides a ball through for Jude Bellingham to chase on to.

But Peter Gulacsi is off his line quickly to gather the ball before the England man.

  8. goal

GOAL - Man City 2-0 FC Copenhagenpublished at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Julián Álvarez

That's a shocker from the keeper!

Moments after Rodri hits the bar, the ball falls for Julian Álvarez who lets fly with an ambitious attempt.

Keeper Kamil Grabara has it covered but inexplicably allows the ball to slip through his hands and into the net.

  9. 'Magnificent finish'published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Man City 1-0 FC Copenhagen (4-1 agg)

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We said Man City have a height advantage but they didn't need that. It's a good ball in from Julian Alvarez and a magnificent finish from Manuel Akanji.

  10. Postpublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Real Madrid 0-0 RB Leipzig (1-0 agg)

David Raum, up from full-back, tries to fizz a low cross into the Real penalty area, but excellent defending from Dani Carvajal as his sliding challenge sees the ball sent behind for a corner. The Germans fail to do anything with it though but it has been an encouraging start from RB Leipzig.

  11. goal

GOAL - Man City 1-0 FC Copenhagenpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Manuel Akanji

Surely this is all over already as a contest.

Manchester City take the lead with their first chance and what a wonderful finish it is.

A corner is pinged into the box by Julian Alvarez and Manuel Akanji volleys it into the net.

    Super start for the holders.

Scruffy start to this. Both teams guilty of giving away possession cheaply in the opening exchanges.

I think it'll be a formality for Manchester City, I think it'll be relatively easy.

  14. Postpublished at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Real Madrid 0-0 RB Leipzig (1-0 agg)

A bright start from the visitors as they break down the right flank but a cross can't find Benjamin Sesko in the middle and the hosts clear the danger.

  15. Postpublished at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Man City 0-0 FC Copenhagen (3-1 agg)

With an average age of 25 years and 127 days, Manchester City are fielding their second youngest starting line-up in a Champions League knockout game, after 25 years and 64 days in a 2-1 last-16 second leg defeat at home against FC Basel on 7 March 2018.

  16. Real start as favourites to progress once morepublished at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Real Madrid v RB Leipzig (1-0 aggregate)

    • Real Madrid have only failed to progress from one of their last 20 two-legged ties in the Champions League knockout stages after winning the first leg, with that coming against Ajax in 2018-19 in the last 16 (won 2-1 away in the first leg, lost 4-1 in the second leg).
    • RB Leipzig have not won any of their past six games in the knockout stages of the Champions League (drawn one, lost five), failing to score in five of those six. They have been eliminated on the last two occasions when failing to win the first leg in a knockout stage tie in the competition, with both of those coming in the last 16 (v Liverpool in 2020-21 and Manchester City in 2022-23).
    • Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin made nine saves against RB Leipzig last time out, as the German side were frustrated.
    • RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko had six shots without scoring in the first leg. Should the 20-year-old score tonight he would be the youngest visiting player to score in a Champions League knockout stage game at the Bernabeu since Leroy Sane in March 2015 (for Schalke as a 19-year-old).

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has warned his players only their best will do against RB Leipzig as they look to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Real defend a slender 1-0 lead from the first leg in Germany when Brahim Diaz scored a fine solo goal and the 14-time European champions are favourites to advance at the Bernabeu.

“It’s a big opportunity to progress in a competition that is very special for us, but we will have to be at our best,” Ancelotti told a news conference.

“The tie is not over, even if we do have a small advantage. We have to be at our best from the first minute to the last. The first leg was difficult against Leipzig, even though we created a lot of chances.

“We have to improve on that and be more dangerous because it’s going to be a different game. They will look to play more in transition than us. Dealing with that defensively is going to be very important.”
