It's a really good strike but it clatters off the inside of the post. Rantala is Leicester's top scorer this season with five goals and she really wasn't far away there.

  9. Postpublished at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2024

    HT: Tottenham 1-0 Leicester

Leicester City have a record of W0, D0, L4 when trailing at half-time in the Women's Super League this season.

The Foxes have looked positive at times in this game and created chances but that record doesn't speak highly of their ability to get back into games.

  10. 'It is a fantastic group to work with'published at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2024

    FT: Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Mikey Harris speaking to the BBC Sport: "You have to give a lot of credit to Man City today. They were excellent and ruthless in spells.

"Really pleased we had another WSL debut today for Grace McEwen. An experience she will never forget and what an opponent to come up against in Bunny Shaw. She will remember that forever and it is a great experience in her journey, a moment she will never forget.

On still fighting at 4-0 down:"I would never question the attitude, desire and character of this group of players. From the moment I arrived they have shown that in abundance on and off the pitch. It is a fantastic group to work with. We will have to reflect, review and work on things and build into that big game against Leicester next week."

  11. 'We are trying to bring everything together to find that complete performance'published at 15:01 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2024

    FT: Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Mikey Harris speaking to the BBC Sport: "Really disappointing to concede the goal in the way that we did. Although City had a lot of possession we felt like we were limiting them to few chances. I always felt we were a threat on the counter attack.

"Unfortunately mistakes get punished by a team with their quality, and that is what happened to us today. Disappointing but we will take the positives out of it. I think we had some really good moments both with and without the ball, so we will look to build on them going into Leicester next week.

On moral after two big defeats: "I would like the players to believe in themselves a little bit more. I certainly believe in them as a group. In the last WSL game we went away from home and scored seven goals which is an incredible achievement.

"I am really confident that we are a real threat going forwards. As well I think we can be solid defensively as we showed in periods today. It is just about bringing all those things together. Trying to find that complete performance. "

  12. 'A phenomenal effort'published at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2024

    FT: Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

More from Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor on managing the pressure in the title race: "Just the next game. We try and keep it as simple as possible, that’s the way to be. We just try and control what we can control.

"The frustrating thing today is if we don’t concede and we get one at the end then we go top of the league outright. We were top of the league early on this season, then were six points behind. All of a sudden within two games to claw that back to where we are now has been a phenomenal effort from the team."

On his decision not to start Chloe Kelly: "We have good options at the top end of the pitch. The competition is really healthy. Mary Fowler we have spoken about for a long time about what she is capable of doing, Jess Park has come into the team and done really well. There is good competition at the top end and that’s what you want in the run-in."

  20. 'Players executed the game plan'published at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2024

    FT: Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor speaking to BBC Sport: "I thought we were really good, we played some really good stuff. Everyone can see that the pitch was actually quite good. It held up well but still not an easy surface for us to play on at this time of year especially.

"I thought the players built up really well, created really good chances, were clinical when needed. We spoke at half-time about making the scoreline more improved from what it was. I was a bit frustrated with the goal at the end I’ll be honest. But it’s not an easy game this, none of the games are going to be easy now. The players executed the game plan really well today.

"All we do is try and attack the next game that’s in front of us. Before today it was seven, one down now. Six to go. We move onto the next one."
