  5. Postpublished at 67 mins

Manchester United are playing much better. They look a clear level above Everton.

Meanwhile, Andre Gomes has a free-kick which the Toffees substitute hits it straight into the wall.

I agree with Rooney that a team should have a nominated penalty taker - with a 2nd, and even a 3rd nomination if 1st choice not available etc But that should be Fernandes. I also want to see Rashford scoring goals (but from open play, not the spot) and making assists.

  7. CLOSE!published at 65 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

From the corner Manchester United do everything but score!

The cross falls to the feet of Jonny Evans but his shot is blocked on the line and Victor Lindelof and Scott McTominay can't poke in a rebound before Jordan Pickford grabs hold of the ball.

  8. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

Manchester United are much more composed now and look far likelier to score next.

Bruno Fernandes has a go from the edge of the box and his low shot is only just tipped around the post by Everton keeper Jordan Pickford.

  9. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn't scored since October.

  10. Subs will 'lift Everton'published at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

    Izzy Christiansen
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The introduction of Andre Gomes and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will definitely lift Everton even more.

Lewis Dobbin has just got the nod as well.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

Triple change for Everton. Andre Gomes, Lewis Dobbin and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all come on.

Beto, Abdoulaye Doucouré and Jack Harrison are off.

  12. CLOSE!published at 60 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

Almost the perfect counter from Manchester United.

Scott McTominay bundles the ball away from James Garner and feeds Bruno Fernandes down the left.

Fernandes does well and gets his head up, but his low cross for Alejandro Garnacho has a little too much on it and the sliding forward can't get enough of the ball to deflect it in at the back post.

At this rate, we could play until a week on Tuesday and Everton still wouldn’t score. Absolutely toothless.

  14. Fabulous watchpublished at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester meets Merseyside in two Premier League games this weekend.

I am wondering if the flaws evident in both these sides makes today's game more entertaining than tomorrow's will be.

Neither Manchester United nor Everton seem capable of stifling their opponents and neither side are clinical enough to make the most of their chances.

Tomorrow's game will be a higher standard, of that there is no doubt. But there might not be as much goalmouth action.

  15. 'Dyche in deep discussion'published at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

    Izzy Christiansen
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sean Dyche has been in deep discussion with his assistants for the last five minutes or so.

I think they must be thinking about Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming on, who is warming up.

  16. CLOSE!published at 58 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

Manchester United give the ball away again, and, again, Everton can't convert.

This time around Beto gets the ball stuck under his feet in a great position, before Abdoulaye Doucouré's shot from a tight angle is kept out by the legs of Andre Onana.

  17. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Andre Gomes are preparing to come on for Everton.

On the pitch, Amadou Onana fires a loose pass forward straight out for a goal kick.

  18. CLOSE!published at 54 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

    Almost a third!

Alejandro Garnacho deserves a goal and he nearly snatches one as he's played in by Bruno Fernandes.

The angle is against him though and he chooses to go for power, firing his shot narrowly over the bar.

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

To be fair, Steve, Manchester United are now playing as you'd expect from a side 2-0 in front. They're slowing the game down, keeping possession, and waiting to spring forward.
