Question. Is this one of the poorest Manchester United vs Everton games in recent memory?

I mean in terms of quality, the entertainment is certainly there!

But, on the ball, this is hardly vintage Moyes vs Fergie.

Manchester United continue their sloppy style of play as Bruno Fernandes practically tees up Ben Godfrey on the edge of the box.

His shot deflects away for a corner, but the resulting set piece goes straight out of play for a goal kick.

Suddenly, for all their territory, Everton don't look like scoring.

They desperately need an in-form striker. Jack Harrison's latest cross swings into a box with no blue shirts in it. United happily let it go out for a goal kick.

Everton in general are playing well. But their defending around the box has been awful.

The visitors have had better chances and looked more potent in possession.

But if you are going to make rash tackles, you are going to give fouls away.

Manchester United have had two penalties and a free-kick on the edge of the area Jordan Pickford needed to make a superb one-handed save to keep out.

It's no wonder Everton are in trouble.

Everton can have no arguments about either penalty call. They were both super clear and obvious.

Ben Godfrey was also given a yellow for his lazy tackle.

Disaster for Everton who lose the ball from their own free-kick. Alejandro Garnacho breaks forward, skips past a few defenders, before he gets taken out by a clumsy Ben Godfrey challenge in the box.

The hosts want another penalty.

Everton only have themselves to blame for the position they find themselves in.

They have created space around the Manchester United area but have not made the most of their opportunities.

Amadou Onana had loads of time to decide what to do with the rebound from James Garner's shot. But he rushed his effort, which flew way over the bar when he should have done much better.

Still Everton come forward, this time through Dwight McNeil who has options either side.

He goes alone though and it almost works out as his fierce effort skids off the turf and just wide.

He, like every other Everton fan following this match, has his hands on his head wondering how it's still 1-0.

To be fair, United are now playing their best football as a peach of a crossfield pass sets up Bruno Fernandes, but his ball to Scott McTominay is delivered a second too late.
