Manchester United have started this game very poorly in terms of possession.
They either keep giving the ball away or play passes to team-mates that are in the wrong places.
Erik ten Hag will want them to sharpen up.
Man Utd 0-0 Everton
Rinse and repeat.
Alejandro Garnacho gives it away this time but Everton can't capitalise.
At the other end Marcus Rashford absolutely skins Vitalii Mykolenko in the box, but Jack Harrison recovers to tackle.

Casemiro gives it away again and Everton break!

Everton have gone really high with their pressure, locking Manchester United in. United playing dangerously trying to get out of that. It was that set-piece, Ben Godfrey, I think the ball should have been in the back of the net.
Man Utd 0-0 Everton
Manchester United are looking really sloppy folks. They can't keep hold of it in the middle. Casemiro is the latest to give the ball away.
Man Utd 0-0 Everton
Chance for Everton, who are playing the better football.
A deep cross finds Amadou Onana in the middle, the ball deflects off his body (or is it his arm?) into the path of Ben Godfrey, but United keeper Andre Onana springs off his line to smother the ball.
Man Utd 0-0 Everton
Not the best of starts from Man Utd as Jonny Evans loses the ball, allowing Everton to burst forward and win a corner.
The defender heads it clear though.

I think the criticism levelled at Ten Hag very unfair, after a good first season he wanted to progress with higher pressing football but we have frequently not had the centre backs to do it. That’s why I think we are seeing these gaps in the middle of the park as the centre backs have to be low but the attackers press. About three signings away from working…

Mind games already maybe? We get going.

Boos from the home fans. Everton win the coin toss and choose to switch ends.

Man Utd may have internationals on the bench, but they don't add up to a coherent plan B when the tough inevitably gets going. Ten Hag - and some of his players - always seem to await and expect some divine inspiration.

Erik ten Hag and Fred the Red share a fist bump. The United boss gets a warm reception from the home fans.

Sean Dyche and what he has done with this team, I see a lot of similarities between Manchester United and Everton as football clubs at the moment, massive fanbases and the ships have needed stabalising.

Top stuff Stoney, although it's time to head back to the press box now mate. Players are in the tunnel!

My chat with Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham got me down towards the pitch when manager Erik ten Hag came out to do his pre-match interviews.
He got a decent reception from the fans in that area.
In fairness, he could do with Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand in their prime to help him.
They are both on TV duties today.

Anon: Man United did have an injury crisis. But the criticism isn’t just points, it’s performances. Spurs have had bigger injuries with a smaller squad too but still have a clear playing style. Not everything is down to injuries, it’s not just “bad luck”!

I have spoken to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham ahead of the game about the Task Force he has been appointed to in order to assess the feasibility of a completely new stadium.
He can see the benefits of a public-private finance initiative and says it could be transformative for the wider Old Trafford area.
Burnham says he expects a decision either the middle of this year or possibly a couple of months after.

He has done a remarkable job in terms of the injuries that he has had and the stabalising of the ship.
Yes there are massive questions around playing style and future but I am team Ten Hag.
I think he's done a good job and I think today is important for them in terms of staying in touch with where they want to be at the end of the season.

That below post is why I love the BBC Get Involved. There's always such a wide range of opinions from you guys, it's so great to read them all (well, most of them).
As I've kind of said earlier, I'm sympathetic when an injury-ridden Man Utd faces a full-strength Man City side.
But against Everton, even United's reserves contain a load of expensive internationals. This is a game they should win.
