Murphy: Difference between Liverpool and United. Similar injury crisis but Liverpool found a way to win and haven't used it as an excuse every other game. The players seem to care more.

Tim: So let me get this straight.....when Liverpool have an injury crisis everyone is sympathetic to Klopp but when it's Man United it's somehow seen as Ten Hags fault? Hmmmm......

    • Manchester United are vying for a 41st Premier League victory against Everton, which would be an outright record for the most wins by one club against another in the division.
    • The Toffees have only won two of their 31 Premier League matches at Old Trafford (D8, L21), the most recent of which was by 1-0 in December 2013 courtesy of Bryan Oviedo's goal.
    • The Red Devils drew three consecutive top-flight home games against Everton before beating them 2-0 last season.

Man Utd do have an injury crisis. But I’m not entirely sure why? It’s not like we work hard on the pitch, or play a high press, or play a physical game.

While we're chatting stats, here's one we could potentially be talking about at full-time.

Manchester United could lose a third Premier League game on the bounce for the first time since December 2015.

Louis van Gaal's side lost to Bournemouth, Norwich and Stoke across a disastrous fortnight. He was out the door at the end of the season.

Well PJ, I can tell you Manchester United have only won two league matches by a scoreline of two or more goals this season.

Although one of those games was the reverse fixture against Everton.

PJ: What I wouldn't give for a boring uneventful 2-0 win for United. Things are so bad at the minute they don't even seem to play well when they win. Rob, unfortunately my pain is endless.

Anon: Jarrad Branthwaite cost a whopping 750,000 pounds plus add ons. OMG as a United fan I wonder...

  10. Competing is not enough - Ten Hagpublished at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March

Man Utd v Everton (12:30 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has sounded deluded at times when he has stated his side are capable of competing with the very best sides in the Premier League.

But he is pushing the same narrative in his programme notes today.

"(At Man City) the defining moments in second half went against us and we are left to look back on result that could and should have been better," he said.

"We have come away from a number of high-profile games this season counting the cost of fine margins - think back to our defeats at Arsenal and Tottenham and our draw at Liverpool, when we had chances to win.

"We have shown we have the ability and spirit to compete with the best teams in the Premier League. But competing is not enough. We want to win."

Not much sympathy for Man U and injuries. He keeps being able to field a team and bench worth more than a heap of PL 1st XI's. Poor recruitment is his problem.

    Mike

So many injuries at Man U suggests that there's something seriously wrong with the coaching regime. Ten Hag has only got himself to blame.

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to TNT Sports: "You need movement behind, how do we get that, it was to come from our striker, he has to make the movement behind.

"But we also need movement in behind from others. It has to work out. How do we get that movement in behind? How do we get box occupation.

"We have to control their counters, and we must keep the ball to not give them set-plays. They are very good at it.

"We have to win. We have to win every game. It's like our way of life. It doesn't change anything in our approach."

  13. Sutton backing Unitedpublished at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March

Man Utd v Everton (12:30 GMT)

    Chris Sutton's predictions

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.

For this weekend's games, he takes on The Zutons frontman Dave McCabe, who supports Liverpool, and Better Joy's Bria Keely, who is a Manchester City fan.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Everton have been in woeful form for a while now, but I still can't say I am totally convinced Manchester United will beat them.

Sean Dyche's side gave United a decent game at Goodison Park in November, despite losing 3-0, and I feel like the score will be a lot closer this time.

I am really tempted to go for a draw but I just know United will somehow nick another lucky win, so that is what I am going with.

There were some people out there who gave them credit for hanging on for a long time against Manchester City last Sunday but I was not impressed.

There is no disputing how good Marcus Rashford's goal was to give United the lead, but the game was a mismatch and they are so far behind City - the two teams are worlds apart.

Whether United do win this game or not probably comes down to whether striker Rasmus Hojlund is fit.

If he does make it back from injury, it gives them a focal point in attack. Without him, we saw what happened to United last time out at Old Trafford when they lost to Fulham.

    Dave's prediction: 2-1

    Bria's prediction: 2-1

When Friday Night Football was first introduced I thought that was sure to be a weekend destroyer. My club lose so often now though that a defeat is like water off a duck's back whatever the time and/or day.

I guess it's all relative though. Like Manchester United's second-string centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof cost over £100m

Everton didn't spend a penny on James Tarkowski. After a quick internet search I can't even find a fee for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Did he leave for free from Carlisle too? Everton fans, please let me know.

  17. Ten Hag says no one could cope with Man Utd injury crisispublished at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March

Man Utd v Everton (12:30 GMT)

    Bill Rice
    BBC Radio Manchester

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been consistent with his message all season that they have to win every game, but remains adamant the project is heading in the right direction, despite his side now being 11 points off the top four.

Last weekend's defeat in the Manchester derby was the Dutchman's 100th game in charge of the Reds. He does have 61 wins, which is a better record than Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta in their first 100 games in charge of Liverpool and Arsenal respectively.

Ten Hag believes they could have even easily won as many as 75 of those games if he had all his players available, which would give him a better win percentage than Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Injuries have had an impact this campaign, and Ten Hag says no team could deal with as many as they have had this season.

The Red Devils are without 10 players for today's game at Everton, including three full-backs, several centre-backs and their big money summer striker signing.

It's a grey day in Manchester.

No sun, or even clouds above the stadium at the moment.

Old Trafford is still an iconic place though.

But for how much longer? New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants a new stadium and has set up a task force, including Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, Trafford Council and former United skipper Gary Neville, to assess the feasibility of that.

The idea is for United to play on an adjacent site. But can it be done financially?

We shall see over the next few months.
