Willock is thinking about Foden's role but he's got to let one of the back three to deal with that, otherwise the wing-back is going to keep getting these two v ones, which are a problem.

Manchester City quickly looking for a second one with a lovely bit of play between Mateo Kovacic and Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian is through but it's eventually cleared.

Willock is too narrow, he doesn't need to be that far in and Dan Burn can't do anything. That's the fourth or fifth time it's happened. Of course there's a bit of luck, but that's been coming on that side, all of City's chances are coming down that side.

I don't think it's a lack of effort from Willock, I think it's more of a lack of understanding of his position. It's a nothing goal.

A great passage of play, good defending from the two Newcastle defenders. Botman forced Doku into the pass. Doku waited the right time, it was just a poor pass.

The game is starting to open up a bit.

Newcastle give the ball away in the middle of the park and City pile forward. Jeremy Doku surges through with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden either side of him but he waits too long to play the ball and Newcastle clear the danger.

Phil Foden slots through for Jeremy Doku but Jacob Murphy hustles him off the ball with a really clever bit of defending.

Kevin De Bruyne is still probably the best midfielder in the Premier League, if not the world right now, but City have still won game after game without him.

Don't see those very often. Rodri gives the ball away on the edge of the Newcastle area as City try to build an attack.

It flies out for a Newcastle goal kick. No real chances for either side so far with eight minutes on the clock.

Jacob Murphy curls in a teasing ball into a decent area but Ruben Dias gets a toe to it to make sure the ball doesn't make it's way to a Newcastle shirt.

Off goes Erling Haaland but Sven Botman brings him down and City win a free-kick just past the half-way line.

Too far out for City to try anything so they revert to just knocking it around.

It looks like Newcastle are playing a three or five at the back when they are defending, a little curve ball in their defending.

As expected, Manchester City are dominating possession in these early stages.

Foden has been magnificent and his performances have got progressively better as the season has gone on. He looks like a match-winner nearly every time he plays. He is a joy to watch.

City have got to be off it for Newcastle to win here and every Newcastle player has to be at least an 8/10. We've already seen one cup upset today, so never say never.
