  1. 'Gordon has been very reliable this season'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
Former England and Newcastle striker on BBC One

Anthony Gordon has been very consistent, very reliable this season. I think he's been Newcastle's best player this season, whether that is out wide or centrally. A big ask but he's going to have to perform. They've relied on him so much.

Newcastle have been awful defensively at times, when they lost the ball they've conceded goals for fun this season.

  2. Postpublished at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

Newcastle last won a major trophy in 1955 when they won the FA Cup thanks to goals from Jackie Milburn, Robert Mitchell and George Hannah.

    That was a 3-1 win against...Manchester City.

  3. 'You can see Foden comes alive centrally'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

    Shay Given
Former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper on BBC One

Phil Foden lit up the derby a couple of weeks ago. He played off the right that day but I think he will play central.

He's got a good pass into attacking areas. He's got a good eye. Playing in the centre, he could probably play his way out of a phone box. He says he's enjoying that central role, it makes him come alive and you can see that.

More history on the cards today for the hosts.

If Manchester City win today, they will become the first team in FA Cup history to reach the semi-finals in six consecutive campaigns.

  5. 'Walker has that fear factor'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC One

It's a strange one with Kyle Walker, because a lot of people are asking for him to be out of the team.

He is in the team because of his recovery pace. At Spurs, he got up and down the line. He has the fear factor, that's the difference.

Pep is such a genius and gets the best out of what a player is good at. His recovery runs allow [John] Stones and [Manuel] Akanji to get forward. That's why I think Pep is such a good manager.

  6. Can Newcastle cause another Cup-set?published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

  7. 'City not showing signs of dropping off'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC One

Normally when teams win trophies, it can lead to a drop off, but Man City have shown no signs of that so far.

Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento sits down with Football Focus to discuss his early career choices, his multiple options at international level and not being the first 'Tino' to play for the Magpies.

  9. 'I'd like to see Newcastle win'published at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

    Shay Given
Former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper on BBC One

I'd like to see Newcastle win today. Man City won five trophies in the last calendar year so I'd like to see Newcastle win something, but it won't be easy.

  10. How did Man City get here?published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

Erling Haaland put five goals past Luton as Manchester City booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

It was Norwegian Haaland's eighth hat-trick for City and he also became the first player to score five in a game twice for the club.

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Charlotte Robson from the True Faith: Newcastle United Podcast gave her verdict on the Magpies' FA Cup clash with Manchester City on the Total Sport podcast: "I would have fancied us a bit more if it was at home. I think Manchester City will take this very seriously.

"I'm not particularly confident going into this game, but stranger things have happened. We have a little bit of a habit of pulling performances when we have not performed in the game before.

"I'm not going to say it's 100% City, we could pull something out here but I think it's a massive blow that we've likely lost Gordon for this game. I would be surprised if he's starting based off the noise coming out of the club.

"I'm nervous. I keep talking myself out of it."

Charlotte was "positive" and predicted 2-1 to Newcastle. BBC Radio Newcastle's Matthew Raisbeck also went for 2-1 for the Magpies, with a Miguel Almiron goal.

Newcastle are looking to reach the FA Cup semi-final for the first time since 2004-05, going out at this stage of the competition twice since then (2005-06 and 2019-20).

In 2005, they were missed out on a place in the final after suffering a 4-1 defeat by Manchester United.

  15. How did Newcastle get here?published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

Newcastle had to do it the hard way to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals against Blackburn, progressing to the next round on penalties after the game finished 1-1.

After the victory, manager Eddie Howe spoke of his "relief" and said it is a competition the Magpies boss says they are "desperate" to win.

Martin Dubravka was Newcastle's hero at Ewood Park that night, pushing Dominic Hyam's penalty on to the post after also saving from Sammie Szmodics.

Will his heroics be required again tonight?

  17. How are things in the League?published at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

When it comes to the Premier League, Manchester City are battling away in one of the tightest and most exciting title races the top flight has seen in recent years.

They sit one point off leaders Arsenal and second-place Liverpool.

For Newcastle, it's been a disappointing campaign in comparison to last season, where the Magpies qualified for the Champions League.

Sitting 10th in the league, is a decent run in the Cup more important than ever?

Man City v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

Newcastle have lost 15 of their last 16 away games against Manchester City in all competitions, including the last nine in a row. The exception was a 2-0 League Cup victory in October 2014.

Newcastle are hoping to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 2005, when they were trashed 4-1 by Manchester United under manager Graeme Souness.

"From minute one in the FA Cup, that was our aim [to return to Wembley]," said Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

"We've done everything we can and navigated tough games. We've managed to find a way to the quarter-finals and don't want to waste this opportunity.

"We'll have a right go. We'll attack it and we'll try to progress into the next round."
