Sebastian Vettel, second quickest to Daniel Ricciardo on Friday by 0.183 seconds has just flexed the Ferrari's muscles. His first timed lap of the day - a 1:17.190 - sees him straight into top spot, a tenth of a second clear of Kimi Raikkonen and a second clear of Max Verstappen.

Vettel, like the rest of those on the timing board, did his time on super-softs.

Daniel Ricciardo had talked at the British Grand Prix a fortnight ago about the big aero upgrade Red Bull were bringing to Hungary, and so far it has delivered the goods.

“Can't complain,” he said on Friday. “Topping both sessions. It’s nice. We brought some updates here and they seem to be working. I do feel like we have gained some grip in the car and I definitely feel we’ve taken a step in the right direction. We know this track is one that suits us and if we can extract everything in the car we have a chance of fighting for big points this weekend and I genuinely feel we can stay up the pointy end.”

Daniel Ricciardo, yesterday's pacesetter, is another of the leading drivers taking his time to go out on the track. He's still knocking about in the Red Bull garage as Kimi Raikkonen lowers the benchmark with a 1:17.909.

Jolyon Palmer did not choose the best of times to have what was probably his worst personal Friday performance of the season. Two big crashes - one bouncing over the kerbs at Turn Four and smashing the front wing and floor in P1 and one very poor-looking spin into the barriers at the last corner, which is rarely seen - left the mechanics with a lot of work to do and Palmer red-faced, and facing the ‘walk of shame’ back to the pits in full view of the TV cameras.

Robert Kubica is testing for Renault here on Wednesday, the team in the final stages of assessing the Pole’s ability to make a comeback more than six years after his horrific rally accident. Palmer is certainly at the moment not giving Renault any reasons not to replace him - by someone, even if it’s not Kubica.

Lewis Hamilton is just climbing into his car as the Mercedes drivers prepare to head out for the first time today.

Sebastian Vettel is also still in his garage but the German's Ferrari team-mate is merrily lapping away on the track and has just gone quickest of all with a 1:18.727. That was done on the super-softs.

After an initial flurry of activity it is pretty quiet on the track now as Max Verstappen joins Carlos Sainz on the timesheet, doing a 1:19.012 on super-softs to go P1.

Jolyon Palmer needs a confidence-boosting hour of practice ahead of qualifying after a crashing in both practice sessions on Friday.

The front wing and floor of his car took some heavy damage after hitting the big kerb at Turn 4 in FP1 before an error saw him in the barriers at the end of FP2.

Around half the cars are out on the circuit as Carlos Sainz gets our first time up on the board - a 1:23.758 set on mediums.

The white walled tyres are the compound of choice for everyone apart from Stoffel Vandoorne, who is out on super-softs.

  15. Massa passed fit after scarepublished at 09:57 British Summer Time 29 July 2017

There has been a bit of a panic at Williams overnight arising from concerns over Felipe Massa. The Brazilian, who spun twice in second practice, said after getting out of the car that he felt dizzy and unwell. He went to hospital for checks and was then released.

Massa was feeling better this morning and after a visit to the FIA medical delegate he has been declared fit to drive in final practice. There will be a further routine check afterwards to ensure he is fine for qualifying. Reserve driver Paul di Resta is on standby to drive if there are any problems.

We're back to the normal driver line-up today after Antonio Giovinazzi and Alfonso Celis took to the track in first practice on Friday.

There was, however, the brief possibility of Paul di Resta getting back behind the wheel of an F1 car this morning. In fact, it may still happen sometime this weekend...
