It's not Mexico without fajitas, and a sombrero.

It's going to be a flavorsome and spicy race tomorrow with the charging bulls on the front row. Verstappen and Ricciardo have a downforce advantage which means the rest of the field will require some extra beans to keep up.

It's crunch time for the strategists as the altitude, and a slightly longer pit lane add some heat they may not have ordered.

The race for the world title is on, and Hamilton only has to finish seventh or higher to take it. He starts third tomorrow alongside his rival, Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel's championship hopes are dripping out of the bottom of his fajita. In order to avoid the mess, he needs to win, and requires Hamilton to be lower than eighth to keep his championship hopes alive.

Daniel Ricciardo pipped Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen to pole position at the Mexican Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton third.

Ricciardo prevented Verstappen from becoming the youngest pole winner in Formula 1 history with a lap out of the blue right at the end of the session.

The Australian was just 0.026secs quicker than Verstappen, who had dominated the weekend up to that point.

Hamilton can win a fifth world title if he finishes the race at least seventh.

Before we go, we have a few things for you to digest...

Of the top 10, the first six are starting on ultrasofts, while the next four are on hypersofts, which means the latter few shall be swapping not long after starting.

That's what's going to happen overnight. It's going to be a long race tomorrow, and one which could decide who the world champion is.

The circuit here makes all the difference for strategic decisions, since it's at altitude which makes all the difference with power units, and cooling of the tyres and brakes.

Also, the pit lane is slightly longer here, which means the time taken from leaving the track for new boots, to rejoining will be slightly longer, and that makes all the difference in terms of how many stops the drivers are going to have.

The two Mexican brothers Ricardo and Pedro Rodriguez. The circuit was named after Ricardo Rodriguez died on the track during a race in 1962. He still holds the title of Ferrari’s youngest ever Formula 1 driver - at 19, when he raced the Italian Grand Prix in 1962.

Both brothers made it to F1, Ricardo for only one year before his death, and seven podiums for Pedro, but both of the brothers skills were in the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Ricardo was refused entry in 1958 for being too young, but went back a year later and came second, as the youngest driver ever to be on the podium there.

Pedro won Le Mans in 1968 - the only Mexican to this date to win, but sadly, a few years later Pedro also died behind the wheel in a race in Germany in 1971.

Sergio Perez is one of only six Mexican drivers in Formula 1 history.

Perhaps I should've mentioned this before, but the Mexican circuit is called Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, after the two Rodríguez brothers - one of them was called Ricardo.

Seems ironic, eh?

Valtteri Bottas, starts P6 tomorrow, he says: "I think it's a really impressive job by the team getting the engine swap done in 1.5 hours and everything felt good with the car so thanks to the team and think we managed to improve on yesterday but I'm not happy with fifth."

"I think we managed to operate the tyres better today - we lacked some front grip yesterday and we have improved and made some setup changes, and as well with the power unit, we struggled with the altitude yesterday."

"It's going to be a long race and we’re going to a have a good race with Ferrari. Red Bull seem strong too but it's going to be interesting."

Kimi Raikkonen, who starts sixth, tells Sky Sports: "It was not ideal, this morning it was a lot different than yesterday. It was better but there were issues with understeering.

"It is usually quite hectic so I will try to make a good start, get a decent tow and see what happens."

Looks like Ricciardo has some catching up to do... What do the Finns have to say?

Daniel Ricciardo is now up to three pole positions, but has a long way to go to catch his fellow countrymen.

Jack Brabham and Mark Webber are the Australians with the most poles - 13 each - while Alan Jones got himself on to pole six times in his career.

Christian Horner loves talking to the media... he continues: "Where did that come from? It was just might, just absolutely perfect. To have two Red Bulls on the front row for the first time since Austin 2013 is just fantastic.

"We put a lot of emphasis into this race, we knew it represented a chance for us and at this altitude we are right there. Those Ferraris and Mercedes on the drag race are so strong in a straight line, we've got to be more focused on what they are doing instead of just focusing on themselves.

"They (Ricciardo and Max Verstappen) both really want it. They are both part of a team, they are free to race but have to keep it clean. It is not going to be won at the first corner, it is about making sure we have a strategy to keep ahead of Ferrari and Mercedes.

"We know we have a great team, great drivers, even with Daniel leaving next year and with Pierre Gasly coming in, if we can just get some more horsepower we can give Ferrari and Mercedes a tough time."

Christian Horner, Red Bull's boss says: "A mighty last lap for him and it sort of came from nowhere - he just nailed it. Really pleased for him and pleased to have both cars on the front row - it should make for an interesting race tomorrow."

"It's the same car so the same opportunity. Daniel did a better job in Q3, and hes deserves it. We just need to do a good solid job tomorrow now. We've got a great car, we've got great drivers and we just need to put it together tomorrow now."

Jeroen: Long time since I've been this frustrated after qualifying. Then again, this is also what makes this sport awesome.

Who expected that?

It looked like Max could have made history as the first Dutch pole sitter, but he fell short by just 0.026. Brutal, as he was the fastest all weekend. It's a well deserved pole position from Daniel Ricciardo, he's only ever done it in Monaco, and after his disastrous season with seven retirements it feels like it's been a long time coming for him, so big kudos to the Aussie.

This is the third pole position of Daniel Ricciardo's career after leading the way in Monaco in both 2016 in 2018.

In Monaco two years ago he then came second, behind Lewis Hamilton, but he won that race earlier in 2018, which led to this great celebration....

Sebastian Vettel starts next to Lewis Hamilton on the second row tomorrow. He says: "It was not a clean lap. I tried very hard and I knew I had to find two tenths to improve it didn't happen but it was very close it wasn't a bad lap but I had some snaps here and there."

I think we got more or less everything out of the car, dropping back to fourth from second is not satisfying but we'll see what we can do from there - we have good straight line speed so maybe that will help."

"We probably have the best reliability so far, the Red Bull's are fast so they will be be hard to beat but they might beat themselves. I think its about confidence, how confident we are and how confident we are in the tyres and being able to push it."
