  2. 'I'm sorry to all the fans'published at 17:42 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

It was a relatively short practice session, since the cars were in the garage for most of it due to the rain. But we got out eventually...

Lewis Hamilton says on Instagram: "I'm sorry to all the fans sitting out there, and there's been no running yet the FIA/ Pirelli won't give the teams an extra set of tyres to run in these conditions, so we are forced to just sit tight, and save the tyres we have in case rain comes in qualifying and the race."

Max Verstappen is favourite and looking good but the times are close with Hamilton and Vettel very near.

Bottas will be on the back foot with that problem. You can never rule out Lewis Hamilton though. Both Verstappen and Hamilton will not mind if it rains.

  6. Verstappen fastest again - read the reportpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

    Andrew Benson
    BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen completed a clean sweep of practice at the Mexican Grand Prix as he topped Saturday’s final session.

The Dutchman was 0.254 seconds ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who can clinch a fifth world title on Sunday. Hamilton needs only to finish seventh to secure the championship and will be crowned regardless of his own result if Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel does not win.

The German was third fastest on Saturday, 0.028secs slower than Hamilton. The top three had a more familiar look than on Friday, when both Mercedes and Ferrari were struggling to make the fragile hyper-soft tyres work.

The session, which started with a wet track that dried progressively throughout, saw a starring performance from Sauber’s Charles Leclerc, who was sixth quickest, only 0.521secs off the pace.

The Monegasque, who will replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari next year, was behind Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and the Finn, who won the US Grand Prix in Austin last weekend. There was a worry for Mercedes, when Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas stopped out on track with a hydraulics failure.

Good luck with that engine change, Mercedes.

  8. 'Not in a happy place'published at 17:09 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

An unhappy Toto Wolff says: "The drivers are not happy with the cars sliding all over the pace, we've a problem power unit. There is a deficit and we're not in a happy place."

"The car is not back yet but it looks like hydraulic failure so it's probably going to be an engine swap, but we'll try and make it in time."

It's not looking good for Red Bull reliability, Verstappen ended the session on the back of a motorbike yesterday with hydraulic issues.

Hydraulic failure is what Max Verstappen had yesterday. The altitude does put extra pressure on these cars in all sorts of ways. Frustrating times for Mercedes and Valtteri Bottas and this track continues to prove to be a problem for them.
