  1. Neither Haas made it to Q2published at 19:48 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

Romain Grosjean who starts P16 tomorrow says: "There's something about Mexico and Haas that doesn't work but we'll keep working at it. We can't quite get it right - we tried to maximise with the hypersoft but it didn't go to Q2."

It is a shame for Brendon Hartley he went wide at Turn 12 and he knew it, radioing straight to his team saying 'sorry, I messed it up'. He has shown some pace but not been able to use it.

Nobody improves on Verstappen's time. However Hamilton is scarily close... 0.004 behind.

With two minutes to go, we've had a swap for hypersofts - the faster tyre, but with the highest amount of degradation.

It's only Force India who aren't wearing those matching pink boots.

We are going to be in for a thriller later on with all the top six drivers giving it the full beans.

    Q2

The top six are all riding ultrasofts.

That tyre strategy worked perfectly for Kimi Raikkonen to take Hamilton from P2 on the first corner last week in Austin and lead most of the race.

Who's going to try it this weekend?

Isn't this tasty. This is what we have been after all year. We've wanted the top six to be fighting it out for pole. This is really exciting in what we could see in this final qualifying session.

James Horrocks: BIG FAN OF @Max33Verstappen, external and surefire world champion but after USA water pump failure Dani Ric will have the added rage to get pole.

Joanna Harran: Having Corona with lime and some nachos, just need a half decent result for McLaren to make it a perfect quali.

Now that sounds perfect... where can we find that at BBC Towers?

Jeremiah: All odds are for Max and Red Bull to take Pole in #MexicanGP, external. But I think there is going to be a spicy moment. Trust Hamilton to pull one from his bag of "hammers" and Vettel throwing in the Ferrari power to disappoint the Red Bulls.

Bob McFeil: I thought everyone hoovers their bed? (See 18:50 entry)

A quick ask around the BBC office, and it seems nobody else does...

No-one wants to start the race on the hypersoft tyres. It is the quickest tyre, but degrades very, very quickly.

  19. 'Not a bad effort'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Both Haas cars out in Q1, Romain Grosjean improved, but Charles Leclerc pushed him out. Stoffel Vandoorne out, he was one tenth behind Alonso. It was not a bad effort from Vandoorne but the midfield battle is so close.

  20. Lewis Hamilton is the master pole dancerpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

He's got 81 pole positions which is more than any other driver, ever.

This is his season so far, and this weekend it could make all the difference. He has to finish seventh or higher in order to claim his fifth world title.
