Why do you hoover your bed?

Kayleigh: Tough one this weekend guys! Would enjoy some of the wet stuff to spice it up a bit. I’m going for a Max pole- still not over him never being on pole tbh- Hamilton 2nd, Vettel P3. A single McLaren into Q2.

T.Dennis Immanuel: Even as a Hamilton fan I’ve been very disappointed in Vettel’s incontinent showings since Germany.

Since race day in Monza it has all gone wrong for Sebastian Vettel. Then America, when the pace had returned, and he made a mistake in qualifying. Kimi Raikkonen won the race starting from the place Vettel should have been in.

Vettel has made too many high-profile mistakes and there is pressure mounting on him. Charles Leclerc is coming in to replace Kimi Raikkonen and that will put the pressure on Vettel even more next season. Lewis Hamilton has barely put a foot wrong, Ferrari will be looking at him thinking 'if only he was driving our car'.

Vettel has won four titles and is still performing to a high standard, he has still out qualified Raikkonen so many times. Vettel has had a very strong season, but just made too many mistakes. I'm going for Vettel to win the race, but Hamilton to win the title.

  9. 'Vettel does not think he can win the title'published at 18:34 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Mexico is one of my favourites of the year, a spectacular setting and the track is old school. It has its own unique character and there is so much passion from the fans, that's why I love it so much.

Hamilton finished third in America, he beat Sebastian Vettel so it was not a disastrous weekend, he just didn't win the title. It came down to not getting his Mercedes off his line as quickly as Raikkonen and then some tactical decisions, but the Ferrari pace was intriguingly good. We thought there was a reasonable chance of him doing it in America just because the Mercedes form was so good, but it was not to be.

Vettel is taking risks that Hamilton does not need to do. Hamilton still has two more races if he doesn't do it this weekend. Vettel, in his mind, conceded this title in Russia - he does not think he can win it.

"He has been a great competitor this year and it has been so hard for both of us and I thoroughly enjoy racing with him and I am looking forward to hopefully many more years of racing and competing together right at the top."

Those are the words Lewis Hamilton used to describe racing with Sebastian Vettel.

  12. 'Great to come out punching'published at 18:22 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

Brendon Hartley is fighting for his Formula 1 career at Toro Rosso at the moment. So after a strong weekend at the US Grand Prix, where he beat team-mate Pierre Gasly, he was pleased to have another good day on Friday in Mexico, the only driver in the team using an aerodynamic upgrade tried briefly by Gasly in Austin.

“It was a really positive Friday for us,” Hartley said. “To be in the top 10 in both sessions and to finish P6 was great! I enjoy coming to this track, I’ve raced here a few times before and it’s my second visit in a Formula 1 car. We did a lot of testing on the new aero kit. I really think it suits my driving style so today it felt like we started getting the car closer and closer to what I want. It’s great to come out punching after a few really good races for me, and I’m feeling good about the weekend so far.”

Key for Hartley now will be to have a good rest of the weekend, as he is running out of time to convince Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko to keep him on next year alongside returnee Daniil Kvyat. Team boss Franz Tost spelled it out frankly on Friday: “He showed a good race in Austin, but nevertheless if you look to the results, he has four points, Pierre has 28 points. That means he has to improve his performance if he want to stay in the team.”

So Pierre Gasly has two grid penalties, which means he starts firmly at the back, but he has a seat next to Max Verstappen at Red Bull next year, and his Toro Rosso counterpart does not.

Christian Horner spoke to BBC Radio 5 live sports extra yesterday to say Mexico was their last chance at a win, due to the advantage in downforce and power. But they've had significant problems in the second half of this year with their Renault engines, and a power unit problem in Daniel Ricciardo's car.

Ricciardo has had more retirements than anyone else this season, with seven. So can their engines hold out for one more solid weekend?

Vettel can only save his stake in the championship if he outscores Hamilton by 21 points. That means he needs to win and needs Hamilton to be lower than seventh.

Mercedes have a chance at claiming both championships this weekend, which will make it their fifth consecutive constructors' championship title.

  19. The order will be more normal - Alonsopublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

    Andrew Benson
    BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer

Fernando Alonso has some bad news for anyone who might be expecting a topsy-turvy grid after Friday’s mixed-up practice session. “It is difficult to guess at the moment,” the McLaren driver said, “because the hyper-soft only gave you one lap and maybe some of the top guys in that lap had traffic or a lock-up and maybe didn’t put the lap together. I think (on Saturday) they will put the lap together and the order will be more normal.”

  20. Postpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

Ok so what do we think after that final practice session? The hypersofts looked like they performed better than yesterday, and there's only two tenths between Verstappen in first and Vettel in third in that session, so it's a close call for now...
