Valtteri Bottas, who joins team-mate Lewis Hamilton on the front row: "I'm disappointed not to have got pole.

"Anything can happen in the race - there's no point giving up on Saturday.

"It would've been nice to have been on pole but I won't give up."

  2. 'I had to dig deeper than ever'published at 15:08 British Summer Time 25 May 2019

Pole sitter Lewis Hamilton: "Big thank you to the crowd, this is the race every driver dreams of when you are a child, you put absolutely everything you have got into it.

"All the guys in the factory have put in everything. Valtteri has been quick all weekend. To get this, it means so much, I had to dig deeper than ever. The lap was beautiful, I feel amazing and super grateful.

"We have a great package and all drivers, whether their car is fast or slow, you take it to its limit, it's like wrestling a bull. The lap was hard, I had a moment at Rascasse but just managed to pull it off."

Leclerc out in Q1 reaction #bbcf1

The Spare Steward: Seeing Charles Leclerc take photos and sign autographs with fans after what just happened says volumes about what kind of man he is.

Jeff Siddle: Why are Ferrari trying to save tyres - it is qualifying that you need the tyres - last year Riccardo was 160bhp down but still won the race

Kuntal Majumdar: The strategists at Ferrari are a complete joke at this point. They need to be replaced if Ferrari wants to salvage their season. Absolute rubbish.

  20. 'Questions need to be asked'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 25 May 2019

    Jennie Gow
BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter

Leclerc was angry, upset when I just spoke to him. I think the hardest thing for a driver to accept is when they are not in control of a situation. He was sat there watching the clock tick down, watching his name drop lower and lower.

This is his home race, the people here are here to watch their driver try and get pole and try and win the race and they will be heartbroken as well because this was supposed to be the fairytale.

This is a hard time for Ferrari and a lot of questions will be asked.
