Should Verstappen keep his race win? #bbcf1

Sjoerd van Aslst: If they want to kill Formula 1, they should penalise Max for racing

Bruce Ha: All the waiting makes the whole thing worse, if one thing need to be change, it's the waiting time of the steward decision, it should be faster, not slower, COME ON!

Erik de Jong: the win should stand. Hard racing is what we want to see.

Steve Johnson: Why does Leclerc have to 'give up the corner'? He clearly had grip to steer, and, apparently. so did Verstappen. They should have rounded the corner together and duked it out.

  2. Watch the race-defining momentpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

This is the incident the stewards, in the not-so-distant future, will be studying from every angle possible.

Verstappen only finished three seconds ahead of Leclerc so any time penalty will cost the Dutchman the race win.

  3. Some words from the McLaren boyspublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Carlos Sainz, who finishes eighth from 19th tells Sky Sports: "Dream day. Before the race I was not convinced it would be easy to make it through the field. It was a good day, when everything just went to plan and I was flying out there passing a lot of people and enjoying it."

Sixth-placed Lando Norris adds: "It was fun, I lacked some straight-line speed compared to Lewis, I did what I could to stay ahead, I did what I could but then the Alfa (Romeo) got past, and then I got him again at lap 15 and managed to pull away."

Sainz: "We introduced an upgrade in Spain which is beginning to pay off, and in high-speed we are feeling the car pulling away and we are understanding the car better."

Lando: "I am excited for Silverstone - in F2, I had a home race last year but it's different in F1 that’s something look forward to – maybe the fans will be more biased to Lewis. I hear there's three tenths extra at your home race."

  4. Winning, despite this startpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

After this shocking start from Max Verstappen, who fell from second to eighth, who would have thought we would be in this position where he may well have won it?

  6. Honda's first hybrid era victory (if it stands)published at 16:48 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Toyoharu Tanabe, Honda's F1 boss, was up on the podium with Max to receive the constructors' trophy.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said: "Honda are just getting better and better and better, - this weekend we've realised that potential, and that's the first victory for Honda since 2006 - the first in the hybrid era."

    Should Verstappen keep the win?

Helles Mammut: Imagine a Champions League final and the winners already having lifted the cup and there's still a VAR review about that last-minute deciding penalty. This is pretty much the F1 equivalent.

Thomas Andrews: The point of a penalty is to deter drivers from doing something. If we deter them from hard racing then we may as well end the weekend after qualifying, no point in having the race.

Nik: A few years ago, the idea of Verstappen being penalised for that would be laughable. In 2019, It's more than possible. The big book of rules has redefined what is fair and seems to want to position F1 as millionaire gentleman drivers tour

Matthew Joseph: I know the turnaround time to review these incidents isn’t much, but should Leclerc be given the win, would be a massive shame that he couldn’t celebrate it on the podium. Seen it before and feel bad for the driver, but none more so that Charles here.

If he keeps it, it will be Max Verstappen's sixth career win. His dad Jos, a very handy F1 driver in his day, must be the proudest man in Austria.

  11. An angry Charles Leclerc still awaits the stewards' decisionpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Charles Leclerc tells Sky Sports: "I don’t know... I'm angry, obviously. Feeling it from the inside, it was an unfair move but I need to watch it to understand the full situation. On the first try he left me a car's width and on the second move he didn’t, so we’ll see…

"Red Bull – or Max - is extremely quick during the racing and they're keeping the tyres better than us so we need to work on that."

  12. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

The stewards took 90 minutes at least yesterday to tell us about Lewis Hamilton's qualifying penalty. Then they didn't tell us the provisional grid until a couple of hours later, with pretty much everyone, including Mercedes and Lando Norris, not knowing the right outcome.

Now we're having to wait so long to see the minor point of who has won the race.

Who penalizes the stewards? Why does it take so long? Must do better.

  13. Hurry up!published at 16:28 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

We wait and wait some more. The Formula 1 stewards are not hearing from the driver and team representatives in that Verstappen-Leclerc incident until 18:00 local time (17:00 BST).

Get on with it. It's not like we're talking about who finished 15th here.

  14. 'We’re not fighting for the Kindergartens' cup, they should leave us alone'published at 16:25 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Sebastian Vettel finished just off the podium in fourth. He says: "A bit almosty – almost is a good word. Yesterday hurt us with the pace we had today otherwise we could’ve had a better race.

"It was fun I enjoyed the wheel-to-wheel at the end I was pushing throughout, maybe not entirely happy because the team deserves to have both cars on the podium and one on the top step. We need to keep working and I'm quite positive that we have the car to win.

Vettel is asked what he thinks of the penalty, he says: "What do you think I will say now? Of course not, I haven't seen what happened so if it wasn’t fair it wasn’t fair. But I don’t like that it's passed on to someone sat in a chair, we’re not fighting for the Kindergartens' Cup, they should leave us alone."

  15. 'If they take this victory away from Max that's stealing from Formula 1'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    max verstappenImage source, Reuters

An elated Christian Horner tells Sky Sports: "What a drive... what a drive. I thought maybe we could get a podium but the way he came back through the field and he managed the tyres well. He got his head down and drove with such maturity, he got past Vettel and then Bottas and then Leclerc.

"When he started setting purple laps at the end of the race and he's closing in and closing in. We're not the fastest car on the track and you think - 'this is happening.'"

On the investigation with Leclerc, Horner says: "I think he gave him enough room, Leclerc comes in aggressively - what are you supposed to do? These are two guys of the future and if they take this victory away from Max that's stealing from Formula 1 - we need drivers going wheel-to-wheel and fighting with each other.

"The stewards haven't made a decision yet they want to hear from both of the drivers, but to change the podium around, that would be a massive decision."

  16. Red Bull's party mode is onpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Christian Horner, Red Bull's boss...

The combined age of Verstappen and Leclerc is possibly the youngest in history. Horner says: "Bottas is no spring chicken, the combined age between them is definitely younger than me.

"The Austrians know how to have a good time and Red Bull know how to throw a party so as long as the result still stands we will be having a party."
