I am bamboozled by that. Leclerc did an entire lap with 19 other cars still under race conditions and his belts undone. Considering the halos and all the other safety features on the car, that is an extraordinary admission.

Charles LeClerc's car suffered a power cut, which the team thought was caused by the kerb. His team said that he intially couldn't get the engine restarted, took his belts off and then found that he could get it going again.

And Daniil Kvyat also gets a five-second penalty as well. He's down in 12th and 15 clear of Kevin Magnussen.

  4. Postpublished at 55/66

Sergio Perez is given a five second penalty for ignoring blue flags. He's fourth but is seven seconds ahead of Sebastian Vettel in fifth so if he serves his penalty now he'll still be ahead of the Ferrari.

Meanwhile, Daniil Kvyat is also being investigated for ignoring blue flags.

"I can try it," says Sebastian Vettel. "We've got nothing to lose."

The Ferrari driver is going for a one stopper. He's currently fifth.

  6. Vettel to go long?published at 15:28 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Sebastian Vettel is running fifth, with 15 laps to go, will he try and spin this tyre out until the end? He might just. He has nothing to lose, because 10th or 11th would be the very best he could manage if he comes in.

  7. Team radio - Ferraripublished at 52/66

Ferrari: "What do you think about going to the end on these tyres."

Sebastian Vettel: "I asked you this before."

  14. To pit or to press?published at 15:21 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Right now, if Valtteri Bottas pits he will be right on the tail of Max Verstappen on a new set of soft tyres. But Verstappen is not trying to shut the 18-second gap between him and the Finn as he attempts to conserve his tyres so he has something to defend in the latter part of the race. This is a delicately-balanced situation.

I'd almost forgotten about Sebastian Vettel and so too seemingly had his team as Vettel pops up on the radio and asks: "You need to let me know now what you want me to do in terms of pace".

Vettel is fifth but has been elevated by a flurry of second stops.

  16. Postpublished at 47/66

A new fastest lap for Lewis Hamilton with 1:21.539. He's 15 seconds clear of Valtteri Bottas.

Hamilton leads from Bottas and Verstappen

Charlie Tolhurst: What is going on with Red Bull's Alex Albon's Strategy. He has come back into traffic.

Simon Baker: The way Albon is being treated by Red Bull reminds me of when Eddie Irvine was treated by Ferrari when he was Schumacher's team mate.

Nathan Marzan: Are Mercedes going to wait for Hamilton to lose his gap to Verstappen again before they pit him?

  19. Postpublished at 45/66

Valtteri Bottas front left is clearly struggling and so he may have to pit soon. He's 18 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen in second.

  20. Postpublished at 44/66

Alex Albon clearly doesn't feel the same as me for Carlos Sainz's defending as he says: "dangerous".

Lance Stroll returns in eighth on softs and will go to the end of the race.
