Red Bull are locking Alex Albon into a one-stop strategy, but why have they pitted him then? He is going to reemerge into 16th place and into heavy traffic...

Before they won last weekend, a second place finish would have been great for Red Bull. Is this a return to normality with the pace of the Mercedes dominating the race and the rest having to wave them over the horizon?
No, it is Alex Albon who comes in. He's on to hard tyres. Interesting choice, they were likened to driving on ice by one of the drivers on Friday.

Hamilton leads from Verstappen and Bottas
David W: I would be more worried with Bottas than Lewis Hamilton if I were Verstappen. Bottas is driving like a man hurt by the loss of that second spot. He knows everyone would be questioning Mercedes keeping him on again!
Adaho: Plus one target, which seems to me like the fastest lap, might be too early to plan for now with Bottas.
David Jarvis: This is a genuine three car scrap for the win here between the Mercs and Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton's strong strart, combined with Valtteri Bottas slipping back, has given the Briton first call on the Mercedes pit wall resources. Hamilton will make the call as to when he wants to come in and Bottas will have to fit in
Three-way battle for 14th involving Kevin Magnussen, Kimi Raikkonen and Esteban Ocon. Raikkonen is within a second of Magnussen, who has 14th for now.
Engineer: "Let's keep building that gap - we can extend."
Daniil Kvyat is keeping Sebastian Vettel honest in the battle for 11th.
Vettel, on mediums, is holding on for now but Kvyat, on softs, is faster.
"Tyres don't feel amazing," says Max Verstappen as Lewis Hamilton stretches his lead even further - 3.3 seconds is the gap between the two.
Hamilton ahead of Verstappen and Bottas
Jeremiah: The cat and mouse game is on for Hamilton and Verstappen. And Bottas is bringing in the dog fight into it! The Chase is on. Hope this makes it more exciting.
Rob Colley: I am waiting for the "rain is coming in 10 minutes" bit of the team radio.
Sara Tule: We really have a race ahead of us after that start with Red Bull the filling in a Mercedes sandwich.

It will be interesting to see if Max Verstappen can go with this increased pace that Lewis Hamilton is now bringing. Can he find a response? If Verstappen is only a second and a half away from Hamilton at the first pit-stop it will put a lot of pressure on the Mercedes pitwall and mechanics...
Valtteri Bottas is told the tyres are doing OK as we approach the first pit window. He's two seconds behind Max Verstappen.
Verstappen wasn't happy about Lewis Hamilton going slow earlier and he won't be happy about him going fast now as another fastest lap by the world champion increases the gap to 2.8 seconds.
Engineer: "Target plus one."

I think this is strategic driving from Lewis Hamilton. He is trying to manage the gap to Max Verstappen, keep it at about a second or so, but without stressing the tryes too much. That is why the pace is measured.
Engineer: "How are the tyres Carlos? We're still think Plan A."
Carlos Sainz: It's OK at the moment. Happy with Plan A, very low grip."
