  1. Westwood back to +2published at 16:51 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Lee Westwood dropped a shot in the dying light last night and had a little post-round grumble about being in the day's last group on course. He is not making much better use of the morning conditions though. After parring the first two holes he has dropped a stroke at three. That was the exactly what he did yesterday and it leaves him two over.

  2. B Watson up to -4 and share of the leadpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Bubba Watson, the 2012 champion, is on a rumble. He picks up a shot at seven and joins Bill Haas at the top of the leaderboard.

  3. K Stadler up to -3published at 16:46 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Kevin Stadler makes a birdie putt at the second to move into a three-way share of second place.

Bubba Watson, still to concede a bogey at this year's tournament, continues in ominously consistent form, level par and steady as a rock through six. He and Marc Leishman are Stadler's company just a shot of leader Bill Haas, whose round gets going at 18:15 BST.

Never mind a ladder, you are going to need a cherry picker to change the leader at the top of the Masters leaderboard.

  5. The Real McCoy?published at 16:40 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

It is all going horribly pear-shaped for Michael McCoy. He started the day on six over, but is already up to 17 over overall and only just through 14. A real weekend hacker of a round for the American. The lowlight came with a triple bogey seven on that fiendish hole 11.

  6. Leishman back to -3published at 16:36 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Alright all, and I bring immediate news of Marc Leishman who has produced a second successive bogey to drop back to three under. He is yet to par a hole through the first five holes, picking up strokes on the first three and dropping a couple over the next two.

Speaking of early starters, my front nine is complete. Here's Mike Henson to talk you through the next couple of hours.

Discussion on the live text desk turns to the best opportunities to score. With high winds forecast later today, an early draw seems to be favourable. The opening holes have been profitable too - has Bubba Watson missed an opportunity so far? Stephen Gallacher, all in black, sends beauty off the tee at the par-three 12th. He's four or five feet from the pin, with a good chance to retreive the shot he dropped at 11.

Townsend studied the leaderboard, poured over the pin sheet and proclaimed: "Round one will be the lowest-scoring day. The pins are very tough today and it will be a strategic decision-making day from the fairway, to pick your spots to make some birdies.

"I'd be surprised if someone gets beyond six under at the end of the day. The three major winners are the ones that stand out - Adam Scott, Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen, although Louis has had a bad back for a while and may have tweaked it again picking up his daughter.

"Phil Mickelson hasn't been healthy since hurting his back in Abu Dhabi. He had two sevens yesterday and I just can't see it happening for him."

  10. Golfing disasterspublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Tom: Biggest golfing disaster was playing golf with my dad and on the 4th green I missed a one foot sitter and subsequently launched my putter into the trees behind. We had to let four groups through while we searched for it. Haven't played with dad again.

I've been to consult the oracles that are 5 live golf correspondent Iain Carter and analyst Jay Townsend.

I asked them to peer into their crystal balls and give us a sneak preview of today's second round.

Carter: "The weather forecast presents a huge opportunity for Bubba Watson. The course is only going to get more difficult, and as a former champion he's got an early draw that suits him nicely. There is a big test ahead of Rory McIlroy's maturity. Everything he said yesterday suggests he has the right mindset to cope with it."

  12. Leishman back to four underpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Ah, Marc Leishman has faltered. After going off like a train, he has bogeyed the par-four fourth to fall back to four under par and a share of the lead with Bill Haas, who tees off at 18:15 BST. Bubba Watson is still Steady Eddie with yet another par, this time at the fifth. Justin Rose, meanwhile, has birdied the second to get to three under.

The official Masters website has added a projected cut to their leaderboard. At the minute, the line excludes all of those at seven over and below. Currently, that's only 15 players.

  14. Postpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

Par golf for the garishly shirted Bubba Watson so far, he remains three under after four. Scotland's Stephen Gallacher, on one under, has arrived at 11 and the beginning of Amen Corner. His approach from the hill of the fairway has failed to find the green.

SB Nation has considered a wide range of factors, external that could lead to Nick Watney winning this year's tournament, although he hasn't got off to a great start on Friday.

Among the statistical gems in the piece, they reveal in the 77-year history of the Masters, only one player has shot a 75 or worse in the first round and gone on to win (Craig Stadler in 1982).

No player in the history of the Masters has ever won after being lower than a tie for 33rd following the first round and seven players have been over par after 18 holes and gone on to win, but only one - Tiger Woods in 2005 - has pulled off that feat in the last 15 years.

  16. Augusta course guidepublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

    Par three, 240 yards

The longest par three on the course can be made more difficult by some deceptive winds. The green slopes back-to-front, and is protected by two deep bunkers.

Louis Oosthuizen has got a shot back at the par-five eighth to get back to two under, while both Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson parred the first. Marc Leishman, the new leader, is heading for the fourth.

  18. Leishman leads on five underpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 11 April 2014

My word, Marc Leishman is on the charge (and he's a big bloke, so the charge will take some stopping). He has birdied the third, just as he did the first and second, to move to five under par and the outright lead. We wondered if an early starter would grab this course by the scruff of the neck. Maybe Leishman hasn't done that yet, but he's at least got it on a leash (sorry).

Gordon Torrie: Biggest golfing disaster was not mine but my fathers. And he drove into a bunker at St Andrews. (I know lots of people have done this but) he was in his car at the time.

What on earth is Bubba Watson wearing? The luminous green and blue stripes are very 1990s. With the floppy hair, he looks like an extra from Men Behaving Badly.
