Just expanding on that question of what do the early finishers do - what do those who start late do to fill their morning? Bit of a lie-in? Big breakfast? Surely you can't spend the entire morning at the range? Do you get given a list of jobs by the other half? Take kids to school, mow the lawn, fix leaky tap, play in the Masters.

If you have ever played in a major, do let me know how you fill the off-course time...

Howie: I once played with a group of friends and on the first tee quite a large queue had gathered behind. I duly went to pieces, swung my driver, hit the floor and snapped the club. Half of the club went down the fairway while my ball stayed on the tee. Its probably the best thing the crowd of people there had ever seen on a golf course!

Andy B: Playing a leisurely round in Whitby, teeing off across a coastal inlet. Driver out to keep the ball down into a headwind, got completely underneath the ball which went into orbit before heading back over my head and into the North Sea.

EC: Golfing disaster. Playing with a friend of mine, his drive hit the markers for the Ladies' Tee, ricocheted into the carpark and hit his own car.

Donny: Played an open a couple of years ago in Dunfermline. On the 17th I hooked a ball off the tee into the sports field. Wouldn't have been to bad except it was being used as a temp car park for the open. Bang went a nice BMW's window.

R-Mac: On golfing disasters: at my home course, I needed to birdie the last to set a new course record. I hit my approach shot on the last hole to eight feet away and only whilst lining up that putt did I realise I'd hit my playing partner's ball. Still haunts me.

JB: Playing a junior tournament in Scotland sliced my drive off the first tee and smashed a window in the newly refurbished clubhouse!!

Is scoring going to be easier early on today? The weather forecast suggests that the winds will increase later on, so the morning-risers could do well to cash in. Thomas Bjorn looks like he's doing just that, picking up shots at both the first and second to move one under par. Louis Oosthuizen has parred the second to stay three under.

Luke Donald, usually so at home in the sand, took a quadruple-bogey eight on the par-four ninth, where the former world number one took two shots to get out of a greenside trap and in the process incurred a two-shot penalty for grounding his club in the bunker.

He wrote on Twitter:, external I can accept the odd poor shot but making a mistake like that is pretty frustrating and so unlike me. Got a 2 shot penalty on the 9th today. Left my bunker shot in the bunker and touched the sand before my next shot. Pretty dumb mistake. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now, brush it off and try and make a bunch of birdies tomorrow.

Donald tees off at 14:57 alongside Bubba Watson and Sergio Garcia.
