  1. Best young player since Tiger Woods? Feherty says Spiethpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

David Feherty, the five-time European Tour winner from Northern Ireland and now US TV commentator, rates Jordan Spieth pretty highly.

"Jordan Spieth is the real thing, he's the best young player I've seen since Tiger Woods. I think he's capable of winning this."

  2. Fowler to -3published at 19:52 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Rickie Fowler is scooting the ball around the second green like he is playing roller-hockey. His birdie putt from 14 feet trundles on by, his return attempt for par also keeps on running, before he finally sinks it for a bogey. Back to three.

"Some of his Texas heritage there. Being able to hit it low."

The wind was threatening to get up early doors and if the gusts do pick up Spieth might find the conditions to his liking.

That is why they are in the final group. Jordan Spieth spits a punchy wedge off the pine straw and up onto the green, before Bubba Watson cracks a laser-guided shot out of the sand and to within 10 feet. Birdie chances for both.

    Par four, 445 yards

The first shot of the round will require players to hit more than 300 yards on a slight right dogleg if they are to clear a deep fairway bunker. The undulating green is crowned and difficult to hold.

"You gentleman ready to play some golf?," asks the announcer. Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson decide that, on reflection, they are.

Neither of those tee shots are on the fairway though with Spieth spraying left before Watson goes right and disappears into the foliage.

Jim Furyk picks up a useful birdie on two to move to three under, while Lee Westwood just misses on two with his birdie putt. It was his putter that let him down yesterday.

And is this Rory McIlroy putting a late run together? Birdies on seven, eight and nine move him to one over. I stand by my earlier comment. Too many places to make up for the Northern Irishman.

Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth are welcomed to the tee by a roar from the surrounding patrons. Will one of them get the same reaction when they stroll back to the clubhouse in four or five hours time?

  10. Jimenez out to -2published at 19:36 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Miguel Angel Jimenez was at his sparkling best yesterday. His form is a little flat on the first however as he picks up a bogey to slip to two under.

  11. Fowler up to -4published at 19:35 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Rickie Fowler is off to nice start, sweet-talking his ball down the tube at the first to move to four under.

    Andrew Cotter
    BBC Sport commentator

"Texas has had 12 Masters champions, more than any other US state."

Handy for Jordan Spieth that, the 20-year-old hailing from Dallas.

Those who enjoy pretending they can analyse body language, you'll usually hear them pipe up during penalty shoot-outs, will have enjoyed the scene on the practice putting green.

Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth, the joint leaders, are stood side-by-side watching each other's pokes at the hole.

Augusta throws up some iconic images and I've been getting the low-down from golf snapper Matthew Harris of The Golf Picture Library.

He's working his 26th Masters, stretching back to Sandy Lyle's win in 1988.

"What I want from the final day is 20 pictures that tell the story of what unfolded. Tight action shots are well and good, but you need to set the scene, so make sure the background says Augusta.

"My best picture so far is Rory McIlroy playing out of the azaleas on the 13th after his ball hit the sprinkler head. The icing on the cake is that the ball is in the frame."

Augusta takes back the shot that John Senden picked up on the second, handing his a bogey on three

Justin Rose's round got underway with a bogey on one, but he has a decent shot at a birdie on the second. He began the day on one under.

  17. Poulter out to +1published at 19:27 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Ian Poulter rocks his head back so hard in disgust that he almost gives himself whiplash. The Englishman leaves his putt for par at the fourth a couple of inches short. It took a look and decided that it would stay up and enjoy the evening sun for another shot.

  19. Position yourself on glasspublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

When does a 20 foot putt become easier than a five foot one? It sounds odd to the club golfer, but as BBC Sport's Ken Brown explains, at Augusta, the position of your ball on the 'glass-like' greens is of paramount importance. Take the 10th for example,, external when after navigating 495 yards, anything beyond today's pin or to the right of it, leaves a treacherous, slippery, meandering putt.

Under the pin or left are the order of the day on 10.

Stewart Tranter, external: These Ken Brown features give the viewer a real feel for Augusta. Looks very hilly and almost cramped!

Tom Hunt, external: Why is Ken not playing anymore? Still knocking those putts in with ease.

Michael Briggs, external: As if Ken just did a half hearted putt without really looking and it went in! Hero!
