The sun has poked out once more, there are fluffy white clouds in the blue sky as Spieth winds up on the sixth. "Is it hurting," he asks his caddie, referring to the wind. My word, have some of that. He's to within four feet of the pin and will be betting back the shot he dropped at the fifth.

The curry is here! Stick this in your back pocket for a life rule; to avoid ordering too much, think how much you need and lop off a third. Never lets me down. Also, if you order chips with a curry then you are no friend of mine.

  5. Spieth bogey at the 5thpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 13 April 2014

Spieth does the necessary to ensure he only loses one, his first dropped shot of the day. He's back to six under, his lead over Watson down to one.

A shot goes for Jordan Spieth as for once his scrambling lets him down. Tough one, right to left, bending past the hole for at least a bogey. Matt Kuchar has missed that birdied putt at six, but Bubba has tidied up on five.

Can Jordan Spieth do another Houdini act? Out of that bunker at the back of the fifth, leaving himself a 15-footer for par. Watson's chip is more like it, and he'll likely stay at five under.

Matt Kuchar, very casual cream slacks, on the sixth tee. White ball into darkish skies, landing on the green and with a 10-footer for birdie. Lee Westwood, his challenge gone, pars seven to stay one over.

Jordan Spieth is getting himself into myther on the fifth. He was fortunate to miss the fairway bunker, but his second is through the green and into the sandpit at the back. Bubba Watson, from the opposite side of the fairway, follows Spieth towards the hazard, but his ball remains on the grass.

"Jordon Spieth has had the ideal start. It was a wonderful birdie at the second but the birdie at the fourth was breathtaking. I couldn't contain myself. A very ragged start from him but he is scoring well. It will be hard to continue doing."

"Oh, Jordan, not again. Come on." Not my words, but Spieth's as he watches his tee shot head down the fifth head towards a fairway bunker. Rory McIlroy's fanciful charge might be over, he sinks to his knees as he finds the meandering creek in front of the 13th green.

Occasionally, though, the photographers are scuppered in their quest for the iconic image of the tournament.

"When Phil Mickelson won in 2004 I made the wrong call - his back was towards me when he jumped in the air and did his star jump," says Matthew Harris. "It looks OK from behind, but it looks a lot better with his face in front.

"The main thing is you can't switch off until they have left the green, anything can happen.

"It's a bit like being a helicopter pilot. Flying a chopper is easy until something goes wrong. It's the same for us, if you haven't done your prep it's so easy for it to go Pete Tong."

Jordan Spieth! Is that the shot of a Masters champion? In the bunker at the front of the fourth green. Shot possibly dropped? Not when you're 20 years old. Up and on to the green, rolling, rolling, and in! That is Tigeresque! Spieth goes to seven under, momentarily three shots clear until Bubba Watson holes his birdie putt. Bubba is five under. Fist bump between the two as they head to the fifth. Amazing stuff.

The winning shot is the holy grail for golf photographers but at Augusta it is more difficult because of the restrictions on access.

There are a couple of areas reserved for snappers by the 18th green but many will get to the course early on Sunday to race the patrons to put a chair down as back up.

"The final moments are all about percentages," said Matthew Harris. "And knowing how that golfer reacts when they've won something, because that makes a big difference.

"I knew Adam Scott would open up and was I fortunate he did that right down the barrel of my lens."

In all the hullaballoo of shots being dropped and gained, Sweden's Jonas Blixt is very quietly going about his business. Par golf through four means he remains at his overnight score of four under, tied with Watson and Kuchar and two shots behind boy wonder Spieth.

Sandy Lyle finishes his 100th round at Augusta one over par to end plus nine for the tournament: "I was told today would be my 100th competitive round here and I had no idea I'd gone that far but hopefully I've a few more yet," he tells BBC Sport.

"It's never easy. The conditions are good, it's nice and warm and the ball is going a long way. The greens are smooth and they are holding certain shots. There's a bit of wind today which will make a few players think about club selection."

My word, what is happening out there? Now it's Jordan Spieth's turn to get the collywobbles. From the fourth tee, he dumps his ball in the bunker at the front of the green. Watson, now two shots back, plays a beautiful first to within six feet. Birdie chance.
