Stu from Norwich: The more I think about Faldo's comments and the way he has been critical of European players over the past few years simply winds me up! He was my idol when I was younger....I tried to play links golf like he did....sadly I'm not a fan of his any longer! However, I am a fan of Europe.....Come on Boys!

Adam, Leeds: Am I the only one slightly bugged and annoyed by the omnipresent and totally overstated role of the 'captains'? They decide who plays in what order. THATS IT.

Michael Allen: Is golf really a sport? Or is it just a game or hobby? A combination of walking and croquet, only less interesting than either.

  2. McIlroy & Poulter v Walker & Fowlerpublished at 09:26 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Fowler is well short with his sizeable birdie putt on four. Walker, putting from the bottom level, is also well short leaving both testing par putts. Poulter makes a better attempt and is in for three. McIlroy misreads his birdie attempt.

"Imagine how many shots we play over the course of a year, we're going to burst sometimes. I have broken one driver and a two iron and one time my dad was behind me and I thought I was going to be beaten up. Two clubs is a small amount of clubs to have broken believe me."

World number one Rory McIlroy angrily hurled his club at the par-four third following a lousy approach from perfect position in the fairway.

The spot to land it on at the par-three fourth is about the size of a biscuit tin but Spieth managed it there.

"Busy out on the mounds between the third and seventh greens as the well-wrapped crowds try to keep on both McIlroy/Poulter (aka McPo) and Rose/Stenson (aka RoSt) up ahead. Far less wind than yesterday, and the early scoring is reflecting those benign conditions."

  11. McIlroy & Poulter v Walker & Fowlerpublished at 09:04 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Poulter from the rough on three again finds the green with his second. A putt for birdie from distance but should be a safe par. The pointy-cap-wearing Fowler is much closer to the flag with a pin-high approach 10 feet to the left. Walker follows his partner to within 10 feet of the flag to leave the Americans with two good birdie chances.

Rory McIlroy walks away from his second with slumped shoulders after finding sand with a horrible approach.

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on Radio 5 live

"That makes eight birdies in a row from this combination (McIlroy & Poulter) in fourball play stretching back to Medinah in 2012."

Poulter and McIlroy made six straight birdies on the back nine in Saturday's afternoon fourball match two years ago to famously help Europe, trailing 10-4 at one point, head into the singles on Sunday 10-6 down and give them hope of retaining the trophy. Europe went on to win 14.5-13.5 in one of the most thrilling comebacks seen in the competition.

"The first day's a bit different, the jitters are there on the first tee. When you arrive on the second day you can play more aggressively as you've played the course before. So we're going to have a good morning's golf. The course is going to play a little easier."

  18. McIlroy & Poulter v Walker & Fowlerpublished at 08:52 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

How did that stay out? Poulter's eagle shot on two hits the edge of the second hole before coming back out. Mclroy almost holes from the sand with his third.
