  1. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 17:32

So it is a bogey for Rory McIlroy, who has gone from four under to one under in the space of 10 minutes. It's the golfing equivalent of meeting Scarlett Johansson, getting on so well that you think you might ask her on a date, then spilling a drink on her.

Oh no. Rory McIlroy is going to give away another shot at the fifth. Remember that position near the trees, it looks like he duffed his chip from there and needed another to get it on the green. That's three gone in two holes...

  3. Another record in sight...published at 17:27

If Jordan Spieth is top of the pile at the end of today's play then he will have led for six straight rounds in the Masters.

That feat would move him level with a certain Arnold Palmer, who did the same during 1960 and 1961.

Interestingly, Palmer did not win the Masters in that second year - Gary Player won it on the 18th.

The signs aren't great for Rory McIlroy at the moment. Double bogey at four, he's now missed the green at the par-four fifth and finds himself in the trees at the back of the dancefloor. The back of the dancefloor is never a good place to be. A big risk of tripping over someone's handbag.

  5. A long goodbye?published at 17:22

Is today the day we wave farewell to a Masters legend? Possibly, possibly not. Let's hope it is the latter.

Two-time Green Jacket wearer Tom Watson is saying goodbye to Augusta this week.

The 66-year-old American opened with a more than credible 74 and is likely to have to at least match that if he wants to play the weekend. The projected cut currently stands at four over.

Watson has just headed out down the first.

So far, you have to say that it's been a very good day for Jordan Spieth. Six under overnight, his two-shot lead currently untouched. He'll be making his way to the first tee in half an hour or so. If he's still leading tonight, that'll be six consecutive Masters rounds atop of the field, equaling the record of Arnold Palmer.

  8. Double bogey for McIlroypublished at 17:17

And, just like that, the good work is undone. Rory McIlroy picked up two shots on the opening three holes, but handed them straight back on the fourth. Into the bunker off the tee at the par three, then three putts. A five. Ugly. Back to two under and four off the lead.

  9. Postpublished at 17:14

At least one shot gone for McIlroy, maybe more. The par putt has gone seven feet past the hole, so the bogey effort is no gimme. It's so easy to throw away shots at Augusta, which makes Jordan Spieth's bogey-free round yesterday all the more remarkable.

  10. Postpublished at 17:11

Danger for McIlroy at four. He's flopped out of the bunker, but is 20ft past the hole and has a very slippery putt to save par. If he gets out of there unscathed, it will feel like a shot gained.

Rory McIlroy has found the green-side bunker off the tee at the par-three fourth. Danny Lee, the New Zealander, currently in a tie for second, has been playing par golf for a while now. He's four under at the turn, two off Spieth.

The 11th hole - named White Dogwood - is where these players tend to suffer on this course.

A par four, it's 505 yards and so takes some almighty power to get home. Perhaps unsurprising it's playing over par then, averaging 4.55 strokes. It has given up just three birdies since play started on Thursday. Grizzly.

I'm currently keeping an eye on Amen Corner, which includes Billy Horschel at the 13th. Honestly, those trousers. What is he thinking? No lie, my mum used to have a pair of curtains like that. Green plants with a hint of pink. Incredible. He's got some cruel friends if they let him out of the house like that.

  16. A day of struggle...published at 16:58

    Fitzpatrick (+3 after 12), McDowell (+3 after 5)

Matt Fitzpatrick began the day at one under but tees it up on 13 at three over. Those shots just slip through your hands here Matt eh?

Graeme McDowell is a major winner but such experience has not saved his hopes early in this round. The Northern Irishman has rattled out par-bogey-par-bogey-bogey. He's still inside the projected cut at +4 but if he carries this form on, he'll be heading home.

  18. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 16:55

Seatbelts, we could be seeing the start of a charge. Rory McIlroy birdied the second and now he has done the same at the par-four third. He's to four under, which I think was the lowest he got to yesterday. Two shots behind leader Jordan Spieth.

Ian Poulter has missed a birdie putt at the par-five eighth. 'Play the par fives well' is the old cliche, right? He stays one under. Sergio Garcia has bogeyed the par-three fourth and gone back to three under. No one yet able to make a real dent in Jordan Spieth's lead.
