  1. Birdie for Leepublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Lee (-5 after 2)

This man sinks a birdie on two and reaches five under, one off the lead.

For those of you asking who Danny Lee is, he's only ever made one cut in a major but picked up a fine win last July on the PGA Tour at the Greenbrier Classic.

  2. Poulter to drop a shotpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Poulter (-3 after 1)

You may well be right with this one.

Poulter shouts "OH MY GOD" after putting his fourth shot into the bunker on the second. He has to hole that for par. Poulter gets comfortable in the sand, waggle, waggle, waggle, flick... nice shot. A sweep of the club face and around 10 feet left for bogey.

  4. Poulter not out of the woodspublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Poulter (-3 after 1)

Ian Poulter is in slight danger of meltdown on two. His drive found the trees and with no shot, he's had to chip out. His third gets position in the fairway and it's now a good up and down needed.

  6. From good day to bad...published at 15:03 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Day (level)

It was all going so well for the world number one on Thursday, five under by the turn and closing in on one of his rivals in Spieth.

Then came a collapse of Aston Villa proportions. Well, maybe not that bad. Day dropped all five shots on 15, 16 and 17 to now sit level par.

"If I'd shot 41 on the front and 31 on the back side, I'd be celebrating," he said. "It's just a number. I've just got to understand that the next two days are going to be really difficult, with the wind conditions."

  7. Day underwaypublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

Day (level), Kuchar (+3), Els (+8)

Jason Day really does take an age to play doesn't he? I wouldn't say it makes me dislike him in any way, I just sometime wish after a big build up he would maybe walk up to the ball and top it a few yards.

Not this time, with a huge ping he's off up the fairway. He'll play alongside Matt Kuchar and Ernie Els. Kuchar I'd say has the most drab wardrobe choice of the day so far. He looks like your dad at a christening.

It turns out Day topped it 282 yards. I wish I could do that.

  8. That time of Day...published at 14:59 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Day (level)

On the tee for Australia... the world number one...

  9. Naughty boy...published at 14:59 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Poulter (-3 after 1), Watson (+4 after 1)

Ian Poulter uses an expletive. I can't say which one. It wasn't nice. He's in the trees off the tee on two.

Bubba lashes one with a monster fade and finds the fairway.

  10. You'll need it...published at 14:56 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Aphibarnrat (-1 after 3)

    Good luck Kiradech.

The Thai player is doing nicely too. He's picked up a shot and is one under today and for the tournament after three holes.

  11. Missing the cut?published at 14:54 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Watson (+4 after 1)

  12. Bogey for Bubbapublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Poulter (-3 after 1), B Watson (+4 after 1)

Ian Poulter yells at his ball as he fires an iron into the green. "Is it on the green?" he asks.

It is Ian and the putt which followed was a corker too, unlucky not to drop. You'll take par on the first though. Bubba Watson would have too but a woeful chip sees him now putting for bogey - he tidies up.

  13. Snedeker birdie but...published at 14:49 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Snedeker (-2 after 2)

Brandt Snedeker does what good Masters players do and rolls one up on the par-five second to make birdie and reach two under.

What good Masters players do not do is then fire the next tee shot into the trees.

We've all done it. That confident walk from green to tee is replaced by a trudge with the weight of the golfing world on your shoulders.

Wow Stephen, you make me feel like we should just cull this live text now. Do you think it's all over already? Spieth could yet drop some clangers. Stranger things can happen. Some team called Leicester are top of the Premier League!

  15. Poulter's time?published at 14:44 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Poulter (-3)

    Ian PoulterImage source, Getty Images

Ian Poulter made six birdies on day one. A slightly neater approach at times and he could have been even closer to Spieth.

Poulter has been driving it an average of 274 yards, which is more than respectable - but, for some context, Bubba just fired his opening tee shot 305 yards.

Poulter is of course the enigma who delivers in spades in team events but who cannot get himself into the thick of a major all that often. Will that pattern ever change? No time like the present...

  16. Teeing off...published at 14:39 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    B Watson (+3), Grace (+3), Poulter (-3)

On the first tee right now we have Bubba Watson, Ian Poulter and Branden Grace. Now that's a group I'd like to watch.

Bubba is all in white with his pink driver out. He lashes at it like only he can and finds the fairway. In contrast Branden Grace is all in black - like Bubba he is three over.

How does he start this 445 yard drag? Fairway but no bounce or skip to gain yards. And now to Poults - can he improve on being tied for sixth last year?

Three under, a great position... in sky blue slacks he's walking to a ball in the middle of the fairway.

    Be an early starter...

Weather at Augusta NationalImage source, The Masters

Today's weather watch is similar to that of day one in that the theory *should be* to get your round in early.

That's bad news for Spieth, Rose, Mickelson, Scott, to name a few. That said, yesterday was the same and despite the gusts late in the day and an undeniable lift in the breeze, these magicians still found ways to score.

We will try our best Ian. I'm told there is a lot to be said for visualisation so perhaps just go to bed each night thinking you're at Augusta and come Tuesday you'll play like Jordan and not Ernie. Hack it up sir.
