Al Hunter: Spieth is the complete package on and off the course so I'm just a bad human for wanting him to slip up so Rory can close the gap..

Mark J: I'd love to see someone do Wii Sports Golf Augusta and play this course to see if we can get near Jordan Spieth. It's 1 of those nights.

  2. Double for Mickelsonpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Mickelson (+1 after 7)

Phil Mickelson in his silver-grey outfit walks off seven looking as angry as a child sent to bed early. It's a double bogey. The sand did for him there.

  5. Birdie for Rory McIlroypublished at 20:45

Listen to the roar! Rory McIlroy sinks an absolute monster at the par-three 16th, earning a shot just as Jordan Spieth was dropping one. It's all of 40 feet, a huge break from left to right, the ball only making its move towards the hole right at the last moment. McIlroy has picked up three shots in four holes to move three under and is three behind Spieth. Game on?

  6. Bogey for Rosepublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

Rose (Level after 6), Mickelson (-1 after 6)

If you're not dropping shots right now then hats off to you. Phil Mickelson takes two to get out of the bunker and is in strife. Justin Rose with three putts on six... he looks disgusted.

  8. Bogey for Spiethpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

Spieth (-6 after nine) DeChambeau (-2 after 9)

Jordan Spieth with an unforced error if you will. A fluffed chip on nine does not make it up the same slope which had carried his ball into trouble initially, he must now get up and down for bogey.

Bryson DeChambeau produced an absolute worldie of an approach into this ninth and if he makes this putt the amateur - and his swanky flat cap - will be tied for second.

His cap is white today, it glistens on these greens and why not? He is shining right now as the putt drops. Back to Spieth, in for bogey.

Thoughts on the Keegan Bradley footwear. Golf meets Michael Jordan. I'm not convinced.

  10. Woosnam says 'bye-bye' to the Masterspublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Ian WoosnamImage source, afp

Ian Woosnam says he has played his final Masters, 25 years after winning the Green Jacket, because of a bad back.

Woosnam added an 81 to his opening 82 to finish 19 over par, although the 58-year-old was pleased to finish with a par on the 18th, just as he did in 1991 to edge out Jose Maria Olazabal.

"The 18th was as well as I played this week," said the Welshman.

"It's just getting really tough. That's my last go. I am not fit enough to play with my bad back. Every time I play this course it just seizes on me and I can't swing the club properly. I am in pain all the way round so it's time to say bye-bye".

  11. Birdie for Rory...published at 20:34 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    McIlroy (-2 after 15)

Rory McIlroy's risk-reward gamble pays off nicely on 15 as two putts net birdie - the final putt a confident stroke from four feet. It moves him into a tie for second, five adrift of the precocious Texan.

    Poulter (+3)

The Englishman's six-over 78 should still see him make the weekend. Should being the key word... The cut is projected at four over.

  13. Postpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Spieth (-7 after 8), Kjeldsen (-1), Stenson (-1 after 6)

Soren Kjeldsen is about the 50th player I have seen bogey the last hole today. He ends one under, the same mark Henrik Stenson reaches with a rock solid birdie putt on six.

There is a gaping opportunity for someone out there, they have to grasp it as Mr Spieth looks focused in conversation with his caddie.

He adjusts his hat before letting rip at the green on nine.. into the wind. The ball pitches on the green but a mix of backspin and wind takes it down the slope and off the putting surface. Spieth is fuming with his lack of fortune. Work to do from there.

    Piercy, Lee (-2)

Nobody - apart from Jordan Spieth of course - is making a dart for the front. A cluster is gathering on the shoulder of the leader on two under.

Unheralded American Scott Piercy is back in the clubhouse after signing for a level-par 72, with New Zealander Danny Lee also having handed in his card.

Only Paul Casey in that two-under crew has holes in his favour, as does Justin Rose who has just dropped a shot back. Over to you lads...

  15. McIlroy to eagle?published at 20:29 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    McIlroy (-1 after 14)

Rory McIlroy is hunting eagle no less on 15 and his second is judged nicely to leave about 40ft.

I'm sorry but is there a finer sight in sport?

    I think not.

The players may be finding it tough out there but Augusta is looking absolutely stunning today.

  17. Bogey for Rosepublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Rose (-1 after 5), Casey (-2 after 8), Lowry (-1 after 15)

Paul Casey can reach two under on eight and follow Spieth into this cup for birdie... does so.

Justin Rose though needed to give his lengthy putt on five more guts and he leaves lots of work to do for par... he can't get it done. Rose will be fuming with those two putts, they were the very definition of tentative.

Shane Lowry, that beard weighing his head down, nice putt on 15 to get back to one under.

  18. Birdie for Spieth - leads by fivepublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Spieth (-7 after 8)

Jordan Spieth on eight, the par five. His fourth shot will be a putt from around 10ft. A fine third after a wayward second created this chance.

This would be his 100th birdie in majors since the start of the 2015 Masters...right to left...IN SHE GOES.

  20. Day ends over par...published at 20:15 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    Day (+1), Kuchar (+4), Els (+9)

Jason Day on 18, it's around six feet and is to stay at level par... here it comes... not today. Slides away, almost sheepishly. It sums up the last 27 holes for Day. He was five under after nine yesterday, one over now. The world number one will have to go low tomorrow.

Matt Kuchar is in the clubhouse too, four over - that could be the end of him. And to Ernie, oh Ernie, par on the last.
