A colleague says Stenson has also reached Abba heights in Sweden. That's bold.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Bjorn Borg, Henrik Larsson, Carolina Kluft, you have company.

The Open champion Henrik Stenson: "This will take a while to sink in, I am still getting my bearings.
"It seems like it was not going to be anyone else but the two of us. I am delighted to come out on top. Thank you very much for a great fight.
"I want to thank my wife, my family, my team, all the hard work has helped to make this possible and my caddie Gareth Lord.
"I lost a dear friend on Wednesday morning in the States from cancer and I feel like he has been with me all week, Mike this one is for you."

He looks cool, calm, perhaps a little emotional but Henrik Stenson undoubtedly looks at home with the Claret Jug in his hands.
"The winner and the champion golfer of the year is Henrik Stenson."
The words of R&A chief Martin Slumbers. Henrik raises his hands and walks up to deliver a speech.

It's a line which can follow a golfer. I'll be honest and say I've written the words "never won a major" countless times. Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Sergio, you name them, the line just follows. That may be harsh but such is sport.
A look at what Henrik Stenson has done shows it's not just a case of flicking a switch or putting together a good round. It's a battle. A four-day battle years and months in the making.
It's arduous. But you can just see the weight of that ugly line fall from the shoulders.
Wife Emma Stenson speaks to BBC Radio 5 live: "There were tears walking down the back nine. I am so happy and proud for him, he works so hard he has been so close so many times and it is a milestone for him."

If you had told Phil Mickelson last night that he'd shoot 65 today and still be beaten by three shots he would have laughed and laughed and laughed, and still been laughing when he woke up this morning.
One of the great duels in Open history - and Henrik shot Lefty down.
Stenson -20 (18)
How will he handle leading a major? The Open does funny things to people. Will he have the bottle a champion needs?
Henrik Stenson went out and shot a 63. That's why he's called The Ice Man.
Stenson -20 (18)
That putt on the last for Henrik Stenson was Hollywood. He just stood there, almost care free because he knew he was the man and this was his moment. He fizzed it in with pace and it fell in the side door. The galleries lost their minds.

I am speechless. That is an amazing performance. He nearly broke the all-time major championship record in his final round. There have been a lot of 63s but not in a last round, on one of the most difficult courses in championship golf. He put on a show today that we were lucky to be here for and something we may never see again.
Stenson -20 (18)
Ladies and gents, that right there is one of the finest rounds of golf you will ever see to win a major championship.
Not happy with a first major, not happy with a 64, Henrik Stenson drains a 20 footer on the last to end with a 63, a score of 20 under.
That is a record at The Open, no one, not even Tiger or Jack have gone that low. We have seen history.
Henrik Stenson is a major champion. Henrik Stenson is an Open champion.
Royal Troon, you have been tamed.
Mickelson -17 (18)
Phil Mickelson up first. He has the face of a man who is distraught. Who can blame him. What a round, flawless.
He rolls up and is six inches short. It'll be a round of 65. A round of 65 is not good enough. Incredible.

I never in my wildest dreams expected these guys to play the way they are and tearing up this golf course. They have been a class by themselves this week.
Stenson -19 (17), Mickelson -17 (17)
Henrik Stenson's wife Emma is watching on and I hope she doesn't mind me saying but she looks a nervous wreck. Her man stands near a bunker on the fairway and releases his club face through the ball. He turns away and initially I think he doesn't like it but he's turning because he knows he's home.
Heart of the green. He has a two-shot cushion. Sweden, are you watching? Zlatan who?
