Right everyone, the consensus appears to be that a very nice man has won the US PGA, which is good to know. Night, and thanks for reading.

US PGA champion Jimmy Walker: "Jason Day put a bit of pressure on me, I was thinking if I made birdie on 17 I could see it out. Golf is not an easy game, Jason is a true champion by making eagle at the last. I had to make a par and I got it.

"There was a lot of emotion going on out there, it was tough, I am not going to lie. But I felt a tonne of support from the fans."

Top Europeans were Open champion Henrik Stenson and former US PGA champion Martin Kaymer, tied for seventh on eight under. Top Brits were Tyrell Hatton and Paul Casey, tied for 10th on seven under. A mention, too, for 2008 champion Padraig Harrington, the Irishman finished 65-68 to tie for 13th.

Golf is in good hands, so many good players out there. There is no-one out there dominating. Jason Day has a firm grasp on world number one but there is parity in the field.

A silver lining for runner-up Jason Day, who keeps his world number one spot after Dustin Johnson missed the cut.

  6. Walker wins US PGApublished at 00:29

Walker fully deserved to win today, didn't make a bogey and stayed steady when nobody behind him made the surge we were expecting. The rain-softened greens certainly made a difference, but not in the way you might have expected, making putts very difficult to judge.

Fantastic effort from Jimmy Walker, a great win from start to finish having led all the way. It does not get any better than that, you gotta love it.

Straight in the middle of the hole, American Jimmy Walker is the US PGA champion. That's the 37 year old's first major title but it would be wrong to call him a journeyman, he'd won five PGA Tour titles before today. Four first-time major winners this year - England's Danny Willett at the Masters, Dustin Johnson at the US Open, Henrik Stenson at The Open and Walker at the US PGA.

Walker races his birdie putt about three feet by, he's got a knee-knocker for the US PGA Championship. Jason Day leaves the scorers' hut to take a look for himself... Streb in with a 69 and he finished tied for seventh...

Walker has putted to win tournaments before but not for majors. He is unfamiliar with this situation. He has to relish this, if he doesn't, go play tiddlywinks.

Not sure what's happening out there, but Walker is in no hurry to play his third shot at 18. It's actually Streb we're waiting for, he's just popped his on in three after laying up, just as Walker should have done... this is not an easy shot for Walker... safely on, he's got two putts from about 35 feet...

I would have laid it up, I would have hit it on the fairway. Going for the green, bad things can happen. Walker felt like he could reach the green.

Walker going with hybrid, and he sprays it into the rough to the right of the green... but remember, he only needs to get it down in three more shots to win the trophy...

Jimmy Walker, standing on the fairway, watched the whole thing.

He just needs the safe play and pitch it on. You don't need to push it on.

An incredible finish by Jason Day, though.

Decent round today from Emiliano Grillo of Argentina, he's in with a 68 for six under. Day for eagle, from about 15 feet... IN IT GOES! Wonderful stuff, but I suspect it's too little, too late. Walker is on the middle of the fairway in one, and only needs to make par.

Walker pulls out an iron on the 18th tee, makes perfect sense, seeing as he only needs to make par, and could probably make worse. Perfect, it's Jimmy's trophy... Day spies the scoreboard change as he makes his way to the 18th green and tosses his putter in exasperation. He knows his race is run, he's been beaten by a Walker.

What an answer from Jimmy Walker to Jason Day, it was a tricky putt.

It was rolling up, I was trying to lean the ball in, I thought there was no way it was going up but it crawled up the hill into the hole.

Great bunker escape by Streb at 17. What a shot that is by Day, a dreamy iron into the heart of the 18th green. 554 yards and he makes it on with two blows of an iron. But Walker strikes straight back, bending in a birdie back at 17 to stretch his lead to three shots.

Walker has 68 yards left at 17 and that's good enough, which is all he needs...
