They are very evenly matched pairs and Europe have to make those sort of putts to get the momentum going. If they are going to win this match, they have to make those putts.

    Holmes/Moore v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello 1UP (4)

Sergio Garcia, not the world's most reliable putter to say the least. He has around 12ft to win the fourth hole. He's looking for a slight break off the left lip, it looks like it will break, surely it will break? No. The pesky ball holds its line, hole halved.

    A/S Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose (4)

If Europe could take Justin Rose's tee game and Henrik Stenson on the greens they'd have something going. Rose is the saviour on the fifth, clipping a lovely wedge inside the ball of Patrick Reed. These two look like they will fight it out for birdie as Stenson and Jordan Spieth watch on.

Paul Farrand: Was 2 down 3 to play, birdied 16 for a half, birdied 17,18 and first extra hole to win.

Stephen Lovatt: I was once 7 up after 7 and ended up winning on the 20th!

    A/S D Johnson/Kuchar v McIlroy/Pieters (2)

You look at Dustin Johnson. He can dunk a basketball, he's got those quick twitch muscles as well and he has great strength - he applies that when he is hitting a golf ball.

Koepka with his second at three and that is enormous, 629 yards that hole is playing and he's all over the flag in two. Back on the second, McIlroy's birdie putt just lips out, to his great annoyance, and Dustin makes the most of it, pouring in a 15-footer to level.

    Carin Koch

You feel like it will be all about making birdies, but it is important to always stay in it and not make the mistakes. The American team made the mistakes there, which helped Henrik.

    Holmes/Moore v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello 1UP (3)

JB Holmes gives Europe a let off on the third, sliding a short putt past the hole to bring the match back to all square. Sergio Garcia follows up by finding the green with style on the par-three fourth. Is the momentum swinging?

  9. Hazeltine - hole-by-holepublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    A/S Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose (4)

Europe get two balls in play on the fifth as Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose find the fairway. Patrick Reed follows suit, Jordan Spieth rolls into the first cut. Someone will make birdie, great positions.

    Hole: 5

    Yards: 352

    Par: 4

A new cross bunker short of the green adds to the risk-reward aspect of the hole. Accuracy is vital. Birdies are rare.

Dustin into the second from the middle of the fairway and that's safely on. Here's McIlroy wedging it in and that's a beauty, chance for birdie.

  11. Iconic moments - The concessionpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    USA 4-0 Europe

    Jacklin and NicklausImage source, .

The Ryder Cup - intense, unforgiving, competitive.

Jack Nicklaus rammed home the importance of sportsmanship in 1969 when he picked up Tony Jacklin's marker on the 18th green to concede a putt and end their match all square.

Nicklaus knew the Ryder Cup would end 16-16, ensuring the USA retained the trophy. Still, his willingness to not make Jacklin putt was seen as a supreme act of sportsmanship and the pair remain close friends today.

  12. Europe uppublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    A/S Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose

We have seen nothing but consistency and superb scrambling from Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed today but finally, finally, they are at risk.  Reed is 25ft from the pin on the par-three fourth after splashing from the bunker, Spieth is 12ft away after a poorly judged putt.

Henrik Stenson is in the cup for three, so either Reed or Spieth must deliver. One wonders what may happen if Europe can just land a punch on this pairing. The American's have been dancing around like Floyd Mayweather all day, not a mark on them.

Reed, a man who has earned $16m in his short career, good putt, fractionally wide. Spieth, $26m by the age of 23, lips out. We have a blow on the chin.

    D Johnson/Kuchar v McIlroy/Pieters 1UP (1)

Back at the first and here's Kuchar for birdie... misses a couple of inches left and then  dribbles about seven feet past. Pieters' birdie putt looks like it's in all the way but it horseshoes out... Dustin's par putt misses by a whisker, leaving Kuchar with a rotter to halve the hole... Kuchar misses coming back, Europe win with a par.

    1UP Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose (3)

A slight opening for Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth on the par-three fourth. Patrick Reed pulls his iron into sand, Jordan Spieth pushes way right on this green.

These are the moments Europe must pounce upon, they were the ones being pounced upon this morning. Turn the tables time? Rose can't he's alongside Spieth and as his ball floats in the air he groans miserably.

Henrik, what have you got? Use that dominant frame of yours to exert some authority on this mess of a hole. It's average, 25ft for birdie. The best of a poor four.

    United States 4-0 Europe

    Fred Funk
Former US Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

We got hammered throughout every session in 2004 and lost momentum early, we couldn't get it back and we were on home soil.

The Europeans are in trouble being the visitors. They have to play solid golf. They don't have to wipe us out right here, but to get three would be ideal.

    A/S Snedeker/Koepka v Kaymer/Willett (1)

Snedeker with his second at the second, middle of the short stuff... wowsers, he's stiffed it to five feet. Willett now... good again, I'd say he's got nine or 10 feet left. Pieters just clobbered that tee shot 351 yards at the first. Bit of adrenaline, I'd wager...
