    USA 4-0 Europe

US player Jordan Spieth speaks to Sky Sports: "We are very pleased we got off to such a hot start. We held it together. Patrick saved me with some putts coming in and that was a lot of fun to be part of that match.

"We both believe in each other's games."

US player Patrick Reed speaks to Sky Sports about his winning putt: "I live for those kind of moments. Knowing I had the whole crowd behind me and that they'd go nuts if I made it. I knew there was no way I was going to miss it. It was just an awesome feeling."

    Ryder Cup

There are only two rookies in the USA team, it's showing.

No place at all today for two of Europe's rookies. Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Wood are sitting it out.

BBC Radio 5 Correspondent at Hazeltine

Darren Clarke has gone with experience this afternoon, he has to.

It has been an awful start. There is so much momentum and feeling on the golf course for the USA right now. It is going to take a monumental effort this afternoon.

Europe have to win this next session, being 5-3 down would be something of a triumph.

    D Johnson/Kuchar beat Westwood/Pieters 5&4

Lee Westwood talking to BBC Radio 5 live: "I will take responsibility. I played poorly and Thomas played well. He made some putts when we needed to.

"You try to put a bit of pressure on, you don't want to be giving holes away. I hit a couple of wild drives early on and you cant afford to do that. It's a tough game to play and you want to get momentum.

"Anything can happen in the Ryder Cup."

There's only one flag in town. Domination in many ways.

Only Rory McIlroy and Andy Sullivan really contested a match which swayed back and forth. It came down to one moment, a botched tee shot on 17 where Sullivan found water. You have to feel for him.

Darren Clarke - what have you got?

    Mickelson/Fowler beat McIlroy/Sullivan 1UP

Well, well, well. I'd love to know your thoughts, just tweet #bbcrydercup. How damaging is a whitewash?

Phil Mickelson finds the rough off the 18th tee, no shock there. But Rickie Fowler hauls them back into position on the green. A par here will surely be enough.

Mickelson's putt leaves a tap in for four. So it's down to Rory McIlroy to putt from some 20ft. He has to make it to win the hole and halve the match. Anything other than this going in and America have a whitewash.

McIlroy studies it, there's some heckling. He studies it again and approaches the ball for a second time. It breaks right to left, too much break. It's wide. That's 4-0. Incredible.

  12. 'Not over yet'published at 17:46 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States 3-0 Europe

    Fred Funk
Former US Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

It's never over until it is over - and it is not over yet.

Darren has to change it up a bit this afternoon, he has nothing to lose. He needs to get momentum. Put some teams out with maybe a few more rookies and get some fire out there.

  13. USA 3-0 Europepublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Z Johnson/Walker beat Kaymer/Garcia 4&2

Kaymer with a poor putt, looked like a misread and he finishes about three feet past. Zach has two putts for the match... only needs one of them. The Americans won the last five holes in that match, having been one down after 11.

Walker right on the money into 16, here's Garcia with his third. Neck a neck, but it's Kaymer with all the pressure on his shoulders.

  15. 'USA cavorting and high-fiving'published at 17:40 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Spieth/Reed beat Stenson/Rose 3&2

    Tom Fordyce
    Chief sports writer at Hazeltine

The 16th green turned from bucolic delight to bear-pit - 40-deep on the banks, wild cavorting as Spieth and Reed high-fived so hard it was like a whip cracking.

  17. 'Entire momentum switched'published at 17:40 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States 2-0 Europe

    Fred Funk
Former US Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

The momentum in the entire match has switched. It's amazing it has turned that way. It looked like it was going to be 2-2 and now it could 4-0.

The key is making the putts and that's what the Europeans have done to us over the years, but now we are making some.

I have never seen a crowd like this anywhere. It's just a great shot of people.

  18. USA uppublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    1UP - Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan

Team Europe have conceded the 17th hole, America are a hole away from a whitewash. Andy Sullivan, one of six rookies in the European team, will have nightmares over that tee shot for many, many years.

  19. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    3UP Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia (15)

Garcia on tee at 16 and he and Kaymer need to win the last three to get anything out of this game. Europe staring down the barrel of a whitewash, and I can't remember the last time that happened in a session.

  20. 'Baffled by USA comeback'published at 17:35 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    3UP Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia (15)

    Fred Funk
Former US Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

I'm baffled it's turned this much as the Americans truly could have been three down and now we are three up.
