    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan 1UP (13)

Rory McIlroy, time to shine. This for the hole on 13 and the lead. He stands motionless and erupts into a spinning fist pump. The loudest "COME ON" of the day from any player. That one is deep from the belly. A big putt. Remember, McIlroy and Andy Sullivan were two up, then one down after the turn. Back to leading.

The ebb and flow of matchplay. Beautiful.

    2UP Spieth/Reed v Rose/Stenson (13)

Justin Rose stands in the 14th fairway. His shoulders are so relaxed they are practically next to his ankles. He walks up to his ball, that relaxed nature turns to fury as he swings hard. He yells at the ball but it's short, some 25ft shy of the pin.

Patrick Reed picks out almost the same landing spot, digging Jordan Spieth's errant drive from the rough nicely.

    A/S Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan (12)

Andy Sullivan is shaking off the rookie tag now. He's put two big putts away in recent holes and now takes aim on the par-three 13th. It's right down the throat of the stick, trickling up onto the green to within 10ft I'd say.

Rickie Fowler needs a response, good strike, clean, pitches in the fringe, rolls on and rests about 30ft away. Rory McIlroy's next putt will likely be for the hole.

    Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia 1UP (11)

    Fred Funk
Former US Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

That was a huge point in the match because if the Americans go two down they are running out of holes, but right now they are still really in it.

There have been some loose shots. They had an opportunity to get back in position on this par five but I think we are going to 18 in this one.

Andy Sullivan shows us what he's got going on inside - a lot of heart. With six holes to go, he converts a putt from 10ft knowing a miss would put the US one up. Big heart Andy, big heart.

    Z Johnson/Walker v Kaymer/Garcia 1UP (11)

Kaymer playing from the 12th fairway and what a shot that is, he's really saved Garcia there with a drizzle of scrambling magic. Garcia from nine or 10 feet, to win the hole... over the cellophane bridge, Zach and Walker remain one down...

    2UP Reed/Spieth v Stenson/Rose (13)

Jordan Spieth putts down the hill on 13, the US can just protect this lead now can they? What does Henrik Stenson have to say from 20ft... this for the hole... six inches away.

Patrick Reed will look to tidy up from Spieth. It's around five feet to halve the hole. His shadow is just right of the ball, here he goes... into the heart of the cup.

    Spieth is clapping furiously. Pumped.

    4UP D Johnson/Kuchar v Westwood/Pieters (10)

Garcia with Europe's second into 11 and that's a horror show, sliced high and mighty about 100 yards right of the green. Back on 10, Dustin makes a short one to stay four up...

    2UP Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose (12)

The par-three 13th hole, the end is in sight, don't pull one here as trouble lurks. Over the pin from Justin Rose to within around 20ft. Patrick Reed puts more beef on it and Jordan Spieth will need to putt from twice as far back as Henrik Stenson.

    2UP Reed/Spieth v Stenson/Rose (12)

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Rose and Stenson just haven’t made a putt. They haven’t hit it close enough. It’s a sluggish start form these two superstars.

But that could be the one that changes things. These are all big holes on the back nine.

    2UP Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose (12)

Jordan Spieth is holding the nail, Patrick Reed can hammer it into the Justin Rose/Henrik Stenson coffin here. It's just a five footer to claim the 12th hole and move three up. Reed catches the lip but it misses. A big let off for Team Europe.

  18. Hazeltine - hole-by-holepublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    A/S Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Sullivan

Rory McIlroy doesn't look all that happy despite being back at all square. He splits the fairway nicely on 12. This foursome is a cliffhanger.  Phil Mickelson lashes a tee shot into the left rough. He has been abysmal with the driver today.

    Hole: 12

    Yards: 518

    Par: 4

The organisers here woke up in a bad mood one morning and added 50 yards to this drag.

So will players fall into the trap of trying to go too long off the tee? Or will they leave themselves too long an iron into what is a shallow green. Decision making is key.

  19. Europe uppublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    A/S Mickelson/Fowler v Sullivan/McIlroy (11)

Rickie Fowler floats his ball way over the 11th green, a loss of balance on the down swing did for him. Andy Sullivan can take advantage but he's hardly sent a telling blow, over the green too and in the fringe. Advantage Europe but it should have been more.

It's up to Phil Mickelson to conjure something. He's down behind a tree, hunched over. He must be thinking 'darn you Rickie'. The chip leaves a good 30ft, so what can Rory McIlroy produce? Dear me. What is he thinking? Too much gas from the fringe and he leaves around 10ft when a tap-in should have been the order of the day.

Four blows each...Fowler is wide from range. Sullivan can win it from 10ft. It's downhill and he judges it perfectly. "COME ON," screams the Englishman.

  20. 'Hostile for Europeans'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States v Europe

    Tom Fordyce
    Chief sports writer at Hazeltine

The 10th green hunkers down by Lake Hazeltine, reeds bordering the water and packed galleries on the other three sides. The explosions of hollering and whooping as American putts drop across the course come rolling down the fairway, triggering even more wild cheering. It's a partisan, hostile place to be in European blue and yellow.
