    5UP Snedeker/Koepka v Kaymer/Willett (11)

Koepka to win the hole at 11, from about 15 feet, and it races by. But Kaymer misses his par putt and Europe have virtually lost that penultimate match.

  3. Hazeltine - hole-by-holepublished at 22:13 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose 3UP (12)

How's your luck Justin Rose? Bang in. With a hop and skip he's over the bunker to the right of the green, 10ft left for birdie. Henrik Stenson needs no such luck, he arrows the ball into within four feet. Brilliant.

The only way to better it is a hole in one... SPIETH... so close. It rolls inches to the right of the hole, leaving a few feet.

    Hole: 13

    Yards: 248

    Par: 3

The longest of the four par threes at Hazeltine. Hole position is often critical given the proximity of bunkers edging the green.

    Carin Koch

Henrik is loving this right now. He has been very relaxed this afternoon and smiley. They call him 'Ice Man', which is about as far from his personality as you can get. He is one of the funniest people I know, just a nice guy.

    Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose 3UP (12)

Henrik Stenson has been the only one of this four to show any control on this 12th hole. His reward is knowing his birdie putt would win it. The Swede is two inches out but that now piles pressure on Patrick Reed, who must drain a 15 footer to halve the hole.

It has a bit of break in it. The shade covers both him and the cup, dots of sunlight break through. Reed drops his putter as he sees the ball slide past.

Europe three up, six to play. Reed and Spieth look to be out of gas.

Richard Livingston: My friends and I do an annual golf trip (Ryder Cup format), and one year my team mate Gary was 4 up with 5 to play and lost..!

Rob Picton: Greatest comeback. Sheffield union scratch league circa 2000(ish). 3 down and 4 to play. 40 foot putt then won the rest. 1up!

Malcolm Bourne: 1985 Greenfield Gardens Subbuteo league. I was Aberdeen v Danny's Man City. 5-3 down to 6-5 win in last 2 minutes. Unmatchable.

That's what Subbuteo dreams are made of, hey Malcolm...

  9. Iconic moments - Controversial joypublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States 4-0 Europe

"It was the most disgraceful and disgusting day in the history of professional golf. The spectators behaved like animals and some of the American players, most notably Tom Lehman, acted like madmen" - Sam Torrance.

The Ryder Cup of 1999 in Brookline boiled over it's fair to say. Colin Montgomerie's father reportedly left the course, such was the abuse his son was getting. One wife of a European player was said to be spat at, it just wasn't nice.

Throw in a final day comeback from USA and we arrived at the boiling point. When Justin Leonard drained a monster putt on 17, his compatriots invaded the green with Jose Maria Olazabal yet to putt. Torrance lost his marbles but many shared his views.

  10. 'Hang About, Hazeltine'published at 22:02 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    United States 4-0 Europe

    Tom Fordyce
    Chief sports writer in Minnesota

What looked like shaping up to be the Hammering at Hazeltine a few hours ago is now rather more the Hang About, Hazeltine - Europe on the charge, heading towards a 5-3 overnight score rather than the butchery of before.

You wonder if Davis Love III has had the first little memory of Medinah tickle his synapses yet - or his vice-captains, four of whom were playing in that triumphant European turnaround four years ago.

  11. 'Dream start for Rafa'published at 22:01 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Holmes/Moore v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello 4UP (11)

Rafa Cabrera-Bello's sister Emma on BBC Radio 5 live: "These guys are giving no concessions, they are both getting better and better. The Americans are upping their games but they are just letting nothing through.

"If you could ever dream of seeing your brother playing a Ryder Cup, it would be having this match and this day.”

  12. Europe uppublished at 22:01 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Holmes/Moore v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello 4UP (11)

Exhibition stuff on 11 as JB Holmes, Sergio Garcia, Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Ryan Moore find the green. Holmes and Sergio are tight to the pin and make fours. A hole halved is a hole ticked off for Europe. Sitting on the advantage they have now is as comfortable as a being on a bean bag while have a foot rub.

  13. Postpublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose 2UP (11)

There are ripples in the water and it's the ball of Jordan Spieth causing them. Talk about going full throttle from a bunker. He's tried to clear trees and failed in every possible way.

Patrick Reed is trying to shape a ball through trees and boy does he need to if the US are to prevent going three down. It makes the fairway but Europe have to sew this hole up surely?

Henrik Stenson just needs the heart of the green as America flounder. A wicked swing, packed with power, great shot to within 20ft.

    4UP Snedeker/Koepka v Kaymer/Willett (10)

Koepka down the hill at 10, lands just short before skidding through the rough and finishing about 15 feet from the cup. His birdie putt is a bit too spicy, but Snedeker makes his to restore the USA's four-hole lead.

  16. Advantage Europepublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Spieth/Reed v Stenson/Rose 2UP

With a hop and a "damn", Jordan Spieth is angry and he points right. That ball is wayward.

With a look at his hand, Patrick Reed suggests the club slipped from his grip. He's out right. Europe in charge on 12.

  17. 'The boys are firing'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 30 September 2016

    Des Smyth
Former Ryder Cup vice captain on BBC Radio 5 live

After this morning's whitewash, and they didn't deserve to be whitewashed in the match I was watching, their hearts will have dropped a little.

But it's a long race and the boys have come out firing. It's a wonderful match - I'm going hoarse with all the screaming.

    Ryder Cup

Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy is the main man in the European team, but the world number three isn't the highest ranked player on show. That is Dustin Johnson, who is one spot above the Northern Irishman.

The Americans have a lower average ranking - as they did in 2012 and 2014. But that didn't help them... it did the trick this morning but things are turning.
