US Masters 2017: Scott Gregory prepares for Augusta debut

    And how about this...

Gregory, from Waterlooville, Hampshire, went about preparing for his first Masters tournament by watching footage on YouTube.

"I've watched a lot of clips on YouTube," the 22-year-old amatuer told BBC South Today. "I've got clips of all the pins from the past four years from every day.

"I know roughly where the pins will be as they don't change them too much from year-to-year. So, I've had a good idea of what kind of approach shots I need to work on in my practice rounds."

  3. British interest on coursepublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

So the first Brits have just got under way.

Experienced Scotsman Sandy Lyle is grouped with English amateur Scott Gregory and American Sean O'Hair.

Gregory is only 22, and secured his place at Augusta by winning the British Amateur Championship last summer.

  4. Nightmare debut for Stuardpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Stuard +3 (1)

Well, I said that the first was proving costly for a few of the early starters, but spare a thought for Brian Stuard on his Masters debut.

The American has taken seven to get down on the par-four opening hole. It's looking windy out there at the minute.

Settle down, Brian, and just enjoy it. You're playing Augusta.

    Thursday's selected tee-times

... Danny Willett  begins his defence when he walks out with  Matt Kuchar  and Australian amateur  Curtis Luck  at 17:24 BST.

Rory McIlroy  is playing alongside highly-rated Spaniard  Jon Rahm  (and Japan's  Hideto Tanihara).  Tasty. They go out at 18:41.

You have to wait even later to see the world number one.  Dustin Johnson  is part of a big-name, all-American final group alongside two-time winner  Bubba Watson  and  Jimmy Walker  at 19:03.

  7. What time do the big names start?published at 13:51 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Thursday's selected tee-times

You won't be able to keep an eye on all 94 men strolling around Augusta today - that's our job to do it for you.

But there are a few names who you will be wanting to focus on.

Jordan Spieth, the 2015 champion and runner-up in 2014 and 2016, is the first of the favourites to head out of the locker room.

The 23-year-old American goes out at 15:34 with Germany's Martin Kaymer and England's Matthew Fitzpatrick...

  8. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

Quite a few of you are asking what time the big names go out.

Well, not until quite a bit later is the answer, but luckily we've popped together a more precise list of who's out when right here.

But let's have a look at a select few we feel you might be interested in...

  9. First proving costlypublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Ouchy.

It's a costly first hole of the tournament for Trevor Immelman as the South African drops a shot.

He's not the only one struggling on the first.

Canada's Mike Weir and American pair Billy Hurley III and Scott Piercy have also carded bogeys there.

Neil Okninski: Just started a new job, working alongside a guy called Paul Casey. No prizes for guessing where my fiver e/w has gone

Colin Mair: Hopefully Rory can complete his grand slam, or Rickie Fowler gets a major.

Stewart: I know nothing about golf, but I've gone with Henrik Stenson to win.

Solid strategy, Stewart. If in doubt, go with the man who won the Open in record-breaking fashion...

    Summerhays -1 Henley -1 (2)

It's a solid start for the first two out on course.

Daniel Summerhays and Russell Henley both made par on the first hole, before each grabbing a birdie on the par-five second.

A nice way to settle the opening-day nerves.

Danny went big on meat and gravy. Cottage pies for starter, Sunday Dinner for main course and then apple crumble to wash it down. He stopped short of putting a bulldog in the middle of the table.

What an honour though. Some of those pictured include Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gary Player, Vijay Singh, Sir Nick Faldo. Golfing names which roll off the tongue like a dribble of custard.

So one of the many Masters traditions is the champions dinner.

Danny Willett, as the 2016 winner, was the man to choose this year's menu. And what does a proud Yorkshire lad want for his tea?

Well, I hope you've had your lunch, because this will no doubt create some serious food envy...

You've all been there, preparing for the Masters as world number one only to go and suffer a nasty fall on some stairs to put your tournament in doubt...

OK, maybe not. But that's reportedly what happened to pre-tournament favourite Dustin Johnson last night.

The world number one's agent David Winkle says he still hopes to play, despite "landing hard on his lower back".

One thing in Johnson's favour is he's due to tee off in the last group at 19:03 BST this evening.

Don't cancel those bets just yet.

  18. Look on the bright side...published at 13:07 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Weather

    But, fear not...

The BBC Weather team have told us thunderstorms were clearing Augusta yesterday evening, so while the course will probably be very wet for the early tees, it will get drier today with some sunshine.

However, the biggest challenge will be strong westerly winds gusting up to 40mph.

Forecast for the rest of contest looks dry and sunny with lighter winds so the course will get drier and the greens faster.

  19. Weather warnings...published at 13:05 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Let's start with the weather.

If you've been following the build-up in Augusta this week you'll have seen severe weather warnings played havoc with practice rounds and even saw the traditional Par 3 curtain-raiser cancelled for the first time in Masters history.

A tornado threat in the area forced officials to close the course for the rest of the day on Wednesday.

However, there was time to squeeze a few holes with the family in...

Right then, two questions you'll no doubt be asking yourself:

What's the weather like in Augusta?

Is world number one Dustin Johnson going to be fit?

One we can answer, the other remains to be seen...
