If Marc Leishman is off the leash in making it a birdie-birdie start, Martin Kaymer is tied to the naughty wall.

Leishman took advantage of the short par four - good drive, super chip, putt.

Kaymer is four over after six holes and back above par for the tournament. The sixth hole claimed him as he carded a double on the par three. Some out there are charging along and Kaymer's hopes are gone.

  2. Can Fowler finally land a major?published at 19:59 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

Ok we're about 10 minutes away from Rickie Fowler teeing off alongside Jamie Lovemark.

Fowler was in stellar form until his back nine yesterday but remains firmly in contention for his first major.

He's always been a bridesmaid, can he finally be the bride? Butch Harmon has told our golf correspondent Iain Carter that Fowler is ready...

Martin Clouseau: Think the 5 are Furyk, Woods, Simpson, Spieth and Johnson.

It's good but it's not the one Martin.

Take a look at our teaser in the 19:45 BST entry.

  4. All in the beardpublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Oosthuizen (-5 after 14)

Louis Oosthuizen tickling along nicely then, he's got the clean-cut look back having gone with a beard to start the week. Shedding the hair has coincided with shedding shots on the card too. There's a hint for you, don't turn up four a round at your local tomorrow with stubble. It will only hold you back.

    Matsuyama (-5 after 1)

A slightly random one but Hideki Matsuyama was born in a city called Matsuyama.

I'm sure there is a link there somewhere.

The 25-year-old will be talked about the world over if he gets it done here in Wisconsin. Four PGA Tour wins remember, he's missing a coveted major.

Big save for Mastuyama on the first to secure par.

Luke has been doing a bit of research on Hideki...

    Reed (-5 after 12)

Reed with a tough chance of birdie at 12...he likes it. Oh he loves it. The American is now just two strokes off the lead. What a charge.

    Garcia (-3 after 4)

Argh, Garcia leaves another birdie chance agonisingly short. He's shown plenty of decent touch so far but could do with some of these dropping.

Right, Hideki Matsuyama and Brandt Snedeker are on the first tee, the first two players to start at five under.

Matsuyama went on a ridiculous run of form around the turn of the year, followed by a lean spell but finished tied 11th at the Masters. Can he kick on and contend for his first major?

Earlier I saw the USGA officials cutting the hole at 17, and choosing which tee box to use for the Par-five 18th.

That seems pretty unremarkable until you consider the first pairing, featuring 2012 Champion Webb Simpson, were putting out at 15!

Organisers say the overnight deluge delayed the ground staff getting to work by more than an hour today.

    Hoffman (-6 after 2)

Plenty of players have really gone at the first two holes today and Charley Hoffman is the latest, the American securing back-to-back birdies to move a shot off the lead.

    Stricker (-3 after 17)

A roar at 17 as the ever-popular Steve Stricker nails his fifth birdie of the day - he's four under for his round and three under for the tournament now.

    Garcia (-3 after 3)

Garcia on third, monster birdie chance - is it in? Ooof, not quite. A lovely touch from the Masters champion but the ball doesn't quite curl enough at the end.

  15. Card carnage!published at 19:21 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Els (+3 after 6) Kaymer (-2 after 3)

    ErnieImage source, Getty Images

A par-par-bogey start for Martin Kaymer when he needed something more to get in the mix. Kaymer ended his round yesterday with a bogey and it's left him with a hangover.

That's mild compared to what Ernie Els is doing though. Look away now if I were you.

Bogey-bogey-par-double bogey-par-bogey. That's five shots gone in six holes and takes him from two under to three over.

    Thomas (-4 after five)

A stroke of genius from Justin Thomas on five.

The American is on the edge of the green and putts at a right angle away from the hole before the ball checks, turns and runs straight in.

Beautiful judgement. He's another player making early headway, with three birdies in five holes, though he did bogey the fourth.

  17. Postpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Oosthuizen (-5 after 12)

Ooooh, Oosthuizen leaves a birdie chance just short of the hole on 12.

Don't let that gap-toothed grin fool you. The South African has ruthlessly hoovered up the names above him this round. He has six holes to do some more damage.

  18. Postpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Scheffler (-4 after seven)

American amateur Scottie Scheffler has made three birdies in his last four holes to move to four under overall.

He's still a shot behind the top-ranked amateur, mind. Compatriot Cameron Champ is on five under and goes off at 19:45 BST.

    Spieth (+1 after 14)

So no Rory McIlroy, Jason Day or Dustin Johnson today.

A big, big name is out there, though Jordan Spieth is hardly having a tournament to remember.

The two-time major winner sees a birdie chance slide left at the 14th. He's one over for the tournament.
