    Reed (-8)

"Some folks are born, made to wave the flag, oh they're red, white and blue," sang Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Patrick Reed is one such person, having worn the flag all week, with some combo of red, white and blue.

The American is decked in those colours once more and drills his tee shot on the first down the fairway.

He shot a remarkable 65 yesterday, which looked nailed on for round of the day until Justin Thomas' heroics.

He's four shots off the lead so has plenty to do but can he be a fortunate son on Father's Day?

    Garcia (-5 after 4)

Three pars to start for Sergio followed by a birdie at the fourth and he's moved to five under.

That's seven shots off the lead - surely too far for the Masters champion, but he is the highest-placed man to have won a major.

    Speaking of which...

    Spieth +1 (69)

Former world number one Jordan Spieth ends a forgettable week on a high note with his lowest round of the tournament.

He shot a three-under 69, including five birdies and two bogeys, to end one over for the tournament.

At least he made the cut unlike Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day.

  6. Happy Father's Day!published at 20:03 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there - hopefully ready to follow an exciting final round at Erin Hills.

Despite the pressures of this unpredictable US Open, many players have taken the time to give their best wishes to their old man...

    Holmes (-7 after 1), Matsuyama (-7 after 1)

The first hole offered plenty of birdies yesterday and looks to be a good chance to spark off a low round again. J.B. Holmes and Hideki Matsuyama both birdie the first to move to seven under, five shots off the lead.

    Haotong Li (+22)

Still, Casey is faring much better than Haotong Li did.

He became the first Chinese player to ever make the cut in the US Open on Friday, after rounds of 74 and 70.

Unfortunately he followed it up with a 10-over-par 82 yesterday and an 84 today - the worst round of the tournament and one that included seven bogeys, two double bogeys and one triple bogey.

He finished par, birdie, par though.

    Casey (-3 after 5)

You get the feeling Paul Casey would rather be at home than forced to play this final round.

Joint leader at the midway point, Casey shot a three-over 75 yesterday when most behind him registered low scores.

He's out of contention and has just bogeyed the fifth to fall even further back. Brutal game this.

  12. Harman's delight...published at 19:38 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

  13. The leaderpublished at 19:32 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

    Harman (-12, tee-time 20:54 BST)

So who is Brian Harman, our current leader on 12 under?

Well, he's a left-hander and no lefty has ever won the US Open. He has two PGA Tour wins, the 2014 John Deere Classic and last month's Wells Fargo Championship.

A quick search on the PGA Tour website also reveals that golf is "the only thing he does left-handed."

He's a keen hunter and says his favourite gadgets are firearms.

And he carries peanut butter sandwiches in his golf bag for a snack. Crunchy or smooth I'm not sure, but if it's reflective of his putting this week, then it'll be the latter.

  14. 'One more walk'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

    Thomas (-11, tee-time 20:54 BST)

"One more walk around Erin Hills with my man JJ," writes Justin Thomas on Instagram.

And what a walk it could be. "JJ" is Jimmy Johnson, who has been on the bag since summer of 2015 having been given Steve Stricker's blessing to no longer carry his clubs. Within six months of joining forces Thomas landed his first PGA Tour win.

“He's just so good at what he does and really keeps me calm and in the moment,” Thomas said of his bag man back then.

Today, each word of guidance will be crucial.

    Thomas (-11, tee-time 20:54 BST)

Nobody scored lower than Justin Thomas yesterday though.

In fact, nobody has scored lower in relation to par in 117 years of US Open history.

A breathtaking second shot to set up eagle at the last saw him card a nine-under 63 and move to 11 under overall.

That feat might have been reward enough but he'll also now get to play in the final pairing alongside outright leader Brian Harman and know what he has to do.

    Spieth (+2 after 15), Scheffler (-4 after 5)

Despite the wind though, there seems to still be plenty of opportunities for birdies out there.

Jordan Spieth has had an underwhelming week in Wisconsin but has landed four birdies today, albeit two bogeys to boot.

And amateur Scottie Scheffler has just made it back-to-back birdies at the fifth to move to four under.

We've thankfully avoided the threatened storms interrupting play so far but the weather looks set to finally play a part in today's final round at Erin Hills.

Not rain though, but wind. And looking at live pictures, it's blowing a fair bit out though.

BBC Weather's Sarah Keith-Lucas has more...

  19. Hello againpublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

There's just something about the final day of a close major.

A frisson, a tension, a level of intrigue that is quite unique to golf.

You may not recognise all the names in contention here but that doesn't matter, they are sure to provide us with plenty of drama along the way.

Barring a remarkable surge from the likes of either Louis Oosthuizen or Sergio Garcia - the highest-placed major champions in tied 17th - we'll also see a first-time major winner crowned.

Brian Harman is in the box seat on 12 under, but England's Tommy Fleetwood lies just one shot back, alongside American pair Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka.

Yet with 16 players within six shots of the lead and a course more receptive to low scoring than most in US Open history, this one is too close to call.
