  1. Birdie for Fowlerpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    M Kuchar -3, P Mickelson -2, R Fowler -3 (8)

The tall, imposing frame of Matt Kuchar stands almost doubled over his putter staring at a long-range eagle chance. Ahh, he just hasn't hit it. Cautious from Kuch, and that leaves him some work to do for a birdie.

A shot at the outright lead. No, he leaves it right and makes par instead.

Rickie Fowler senses a birdie of his own. It's running, running... right to the finish line. Nailed it! From 25 feet. That gives him a slice of the eight-way share of the lead.

Phil Mickelson rolls in for par to remain one shot off the frontrunners.

    B Wiesberger -3 (2)

Another new face slopes in through the back door and gatecrashes the party. Austria's Bernd Wiesberger takes the co-leaders up to seven by birdieing the second.

    R McIlroy -2 (7)

Some super scrambling from Rory McIlroy on the par-four seventh. A wayward tee shot leaves him left of the tight fairway, but he dinks out of the trees to the same side of the green as the pin. A controlled chip and precise putt sees him scribble down a par.

That was worth the wait from Matt Kuchar. The American is in inspired form on the this front nine and just slaps his second shot 250 yards or so, catching the edge of the eighth green and trickling its way ever closer to the flag.

Phil Mickelson, with his third shot, isn't so pleased. "Go on, Phil..." is the resulting cry, with a 37-foot birdie putt to come.

Mixed fortunes for this stellar group on the fifth. Rafa Cabrera-Bello moves back into a share of the lead with a birdie, Justin Rose matching his three to go level again.

However, world number one Dustin Johnson leaves with a bogey after a duffed chip at the back of the green. See - it even happens to the best...

Love that from Rickie Fowler, taking a driver off the deck with 321 yards still to make up to the flag. Mickelson doesn't have that luxury, flopping one out of the sand on to the fairway.

Kuch is taking his time over his approach. A natter with his caddie. Let's get this moving...

A bit of waiting around on the eighth tee box for Lefty and the gang with the fairway ahead clogged up by Tyrrell Hatton's group. A brief rest for the American trio.

Phil Mickleson draws his drive into a bunker, Rickie Fowler comes up slightly short of the sand and joint-leader Matt Kuchar is also good.

  9. Missing the cut?published at 17:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

Talking of the cut, it is currently projected at seven over. That means Sergio Garcia would be heading to Terminal One at Augusta Airport tomorrow, along with other former winners Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam.

  10. Sergio's balls went where?published at 17:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

Strolling up the first to watch Tony Finau this morning with Mark Chapman and Alistair Bruce-Ball, we were literally bumped into by Alan Shearer. Rather rudely, he suggested the three of us looked like we'd just stepped out of Last of The Summer Wine.

Alan Shearer told us that by chance, he happened to be watching at the 15th yesterday as Sergio Garcia's 13 shot nightmare unfolded in front of him. He was as incredulous about it as the rest of us.

Vince Kenny: Two questions regarding the cut if I may? Is it 60 and ties and does the "within 10 shots" rule apply? Thanks in advance.

It's actually 50 and ties Vinny and yes the 10 shot rule does come into play, so a tightly congested leaderboard could mean a few more of the 87-man field are still here for the weekend.

    L Oosthuizen -2 (5)

Conditions are definitely trickier at Augusta today. Don't let the sparkling skies fool you... a swirling wind is making club selection difficult.

Of the 60 players out on the course, only nine are currently under par for the day. Louis Oosthuizen is the only man in the top two bunches who is in the red.

What of our overnight leader? The good ship Spieth is starting to settle in steadier waters. A third par on the bounce comes his way on the fifth.

  14. Triple bogey for Couplespublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    F Couples +3 (11)

Fred Couples' flirt with the leaders proved short-lived. The American scrambled to one under through eight, but bogeyed the 10th and has just carded a triple bogey at the 11th.

The 58-year-old misplaced an approach to the green and sent his ball swimming in the water behind it.

    M Kuchar -3, P Mickelson -2, R Fowler -2 (7)

Both Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler have a chance to join the lead here. The younger American goes first, putting in the shadows from 15 feet or so and eyeing a birdie, but rolling it up next to the cup. He taps in for par.

Lefty has had a look at that and can take Fowler's line. He's a little closer, but it doesn't drop and the 47-year-old sluggishly stomps off the green with par instead.

  16. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    R McIlroy -2 (6)

    Rory, Rory, Rory.

McIlroy played the par threes impeccably yesterday, walking off with pars on the 4th, 6th, 12th and 16th.

But, after dropping a shot on the fourth, he's done the same on the sixth. Again he's gone through the back of the green, lags a chip and then needs two putts.

He drops back into that eight-man group on two under.

There's a hysterical scream from the crowd watching at the seventh. Someone really enjoyed that Phil Mickelson approach. It clips the bank at the back of the green, and rolls effortlessly down hill towards the pin.

Rickie Fowler is also on the green, 22 feet from the flag, but Matt Kuchar has found the bunker. He's going to have to earn his share of the lead here... a delightful chip to within a few yards of the cup.

Routine par for McIlroy on the fifth. After pushing his tee shot slightly right, the four-time major winner sticks his approach onto the dancefloor. Two putts and he's traded punches with Magnolia.

  19. Bogey for Cabrera Bellopublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    R Cabrera Bello -2 (4)

Rafa Cabrera Bello has endured a turbulent few holes. The Spaniard bogeyed the second, birdied the third to retake a share of the lead, but has just dropped another shot at the par-three fourth.

It leaves him at two under, one stroke off the seven-way tie for the lead.
