  1. 'A great day to score'published at 18:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

This is what the players love - there are no shadows on the course and that can make it better to play at Augusta. Shadows can make you feel awkward and restrict your backswing.

And the rain has made the greens soft. They become more receptive. This is a great day to score.

  2. Bogey for Rosepublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    B Watson -2 (1), J Rose -1 (1)

Just as I was talking up Justin Rose, he's gone and three-putted the first. A bogey to start with for the Englishman, who left his birdie putt five feet short and then failed to convert, eventually tapping in for five.

Rose is out alongside Bubba Watson. The two-time Masters winner was considering retirement this time last year after suffering with health issues, but he's back and firing.

Bubba is two under for the tournament, and cards a comfortable par on the first.

  4. Rose under waypublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    J Rose -2

Justin Rose makes a bright start on the first. A well-placed drive 293 yards down the fairway, nestling up just to the left of a lurking bunker.

The Englishman then coaxes his approach into the heart of the green, although some 48 feet from the pin.

An early outside chance for birdie?

  5. Postpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    Casey +2 (18)

Paul Casey is the first man back in the clubhouse today. The Englishman has racked up six top-20 finishes in his 11 appearances at Augusta and still has a fighting chance of another this weekend.

Four birdies help him sign for a three-under 69 and lift him to tied 28th. Casey was playing with Augusta member Jeff Knox - the mysterious course-record holder who is summoned to play with the first man out when there's an odd-numbered field at the weekend.

Legend has it that Knoxy has beaten Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia around Augusta. No confirmation of whether he's bettered Casey's score today...

  11. Birdies all roundpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    J Rahm -2 (1), T Fleetwood -1 (3), A Hadwin +1 (3), R Henley -1 (4)

The early birdie catches the... attention of the live texter. And there's been plenty of them at Augusta today.

Southport's Tommy Fleetwood is the latest to drag a shot back, birdieing the par-five second to move to one under for the tournament.

Adam Hadwin has also birdied the second, although that came after dropping a shot at the first, the same form as Russell Henley.

And Spaniard Jon Rahm has kicked his third round off with a birdie at the first, sinking a six-foot putt to go two under.

  12. Who are you backing?published at 18:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

Picking a Masters winner can be as tricky as choosing a horse for the Grand National. Plenty of big names, plenty of names you might not have heard of, all got a chance of falling halfway round...

Luckily, Today's Golfer , externalpicked out some stats before the tournament to help you back a winner...

    • Since world rankings began in 1986, 24 of the last 32 champions (75%) have been ranked inside the top 20 when they won
    • Sixteen of the past 20 winners have been inside the top 10 after round one
    • In the last 20 years, 11 winners had already won an event in the previous three months - including all four of the most recent champions

Rory McIlroy ticks all of those boxes...

    T Hatton +5, P Mickelson +6 (14)

Lefty isn't going down without a fight. Flag out, wedge in hand... he fancies his chance of holing out. Looking good... canned it! Phil Mickelson edges away from the foot of the leaderboard with a birdie three on 14, Tyrrell Hatton is only a matchstick length from a birdie of his own with a 33-foot putt.

  18. Fitz on the movepublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    M Fitzpatrick E (15)

Matt Fitzpatrick didn't enjoy the best of starts at Augusta this week, posting 75, 74 to just about sneak inside the cut at five over.

The Englishman dropped to six over with a bogey at the fifth earlier, but then checked in his one-way ticket for the birdie express and has steamed up the leaderboard at Augusta.

Birdies at seven, eight, 12 and 14... and hold on a minute, he's just gone and eagled the 15th!

Fitzpatrick taking moving day seriously - he's five under for the day and up to level par.

He might have been celebrating a few holes ago, but Tiger can't match that birdie on 12. He rolls his 11-foot putt just past the left lip and has to settle for a par.
