    D Johnson -4, J Spieth -3 (5)

Jordan Spieth looks to be rushing through shots, another putt that he fizzes some way away from the hole and stomps after with intent.

He's got a five-footer for par at the sixth.

Dustin Johnson nails the green and then two putts for par.

Everybody is smiling, I've never seen so many happy bunnies. It's not raining maybe that's why, the forecast was terrible.

    H Stenson -4, R McIlroy -6 (5)

Rory McIlroy is laughing like Michael McIntyre has just told him his best gag. What has made him tickle is that he clips the top of the bunker with his second shot on the fifth, but still ends up about 13 feet away from the pin. Another birdie chance...

I find Spieth a remarkable player to watch. Sometimes he's agitated and quick, he's not a particularly great driver but put the whole package together and he's remarkably good.

    P Reed -8, M Leishman -7 (4)

So close for Patrick Reed. An immediate shot at redemption for the leader with a long birdie putt that tracks its target all the way before slipping narrowly by.

    It's par, but he's smiling.

    R Fowler -6 (6)

Rickie Fowler has reached the seventh green and has his fishing rod out to see if he can land a whopper. He gets a bite but can't catch it fully. Good effort. Should be a comfortable par for the man tied with Rory McIlroy in third.

  8. Bogey for Spiethpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    D Johnson -4, J Spieth -3 (5)

Ouchy, Dustin Johnson has left his putt a long way short of the flag and faces a tricky slope into the cup with his par putt.

He sinks it! Ten feet, no problem for the world number one.

Jordan Spieth's task looked a little simpler, but his seven-foot par putt races beyond its target and the American bogeys.

  10. Bogey for Reedpublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    P Reed -8, M Leishman -7 (3)

Game on. Patrick Reed has dropped a shot.

The American staved off potential bogeys at the first and second with a pair of par-saving putts, but can't recreate that magic at three.

Playing seven feet down the slope, left to right, he flirts with the cup but watches his ball trickle on by and the leader cards a five.

    Advantage cut to one shot.

    R Fowler -6 (6)

Rickie Fowler is on the green for two on the seventh. That's the good news. The bad news? He might need a pair of binoculars to see the can. He's on the right side of a narrow green, his ball about 50 feet away on the left.

  12. Eagle for Rahmpublished at 20:12 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    J Rahm -5 (8)

    Stop it, Jon Rahm!

He's lurking in the leader's shadows, but the Spaniard's frame has suddenly become a lot more prominent after an eagle on the par-five eighth.

That takes him to five under.

  13. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    H Stenson -4, R McIlroy -6 (4)

And it's got even better for Rory McIlroy. Another birdie! He's matching Rickie Fowler stride for stride, sinking a 20-foot putt on the par-three fourth to move up to six under.

    J Spieth -4, D Johnson -4 (4)

Plenty of food for thought for Jordan Spieth, he's anxiously pacing back and forth in a bid to judge his approach from the fairway.

"Get down, sit," barks the American, like his ball's a newborn puppy. It's in the sand.

Dustin Johnson is faced with two mammoth bunkers in front of him, and flings his approach to the other end of the green to which he was hoping - that's in a different postcode.

  17. Birdie for Fowlerpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    R Fowler -6 (6)

Somebody throw a bucket of sand over Rickie Fowler. He's on fire! The American world number eight sticks his tee shot on the par-three sixth to within 11 feet, confidently rolling his putt for back-to-back birdies.

Fowler is back up to outright third, now a shot behind Marc Leishman and three adrift of Patrick Reed.

    P Reed -9, M Leishman -7 (2)

Patrick Reed has snaffled another par to hold on to his two-stroke lead.

The American chips on the green with his fourth shot, five foot from the pin, and proves his putter's nicely warmed up by dropping it in the cup.

Easy does it for Marc Leishman, he follows suit.

  19. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    H Stenson -4, R McIlroy -5 (3)

Rory McIlroy has been putting well all week and that's showing no signs of ending. After a near miss on the previous hole, R-Mac gets his reward on the third as he sees a 20-foot putt disappear down the drain.

Henrik Stenson's own birdie putt, up the slope from the left edge, isn't quite as well judged. He leaves it well short, shaking his head in disappointment, composing himself to make sure there is no further damage.

    J Spieth -4, D Johnson -4 (4)

A consistent if not particularly exciting start for Jordan Spieth. He said yesterday the aim is to get to the eighth in level par, and the American is level through four for today's round.

Dustin Johnson rolls his birdie putt to within a putter's length of the pin and takes par.
