That's a fairway and a green. That's pretty good for the final hole when you're trying to win your first major. It's not a tricky two-putt.

Patrick Reed is even steven with the 18th this week - par, par, par. And he has a good line in now.

A concerned look is etched across his face though, after muted applause greets his approach. Reed's ball pitches on the top deck, pin on the bottom, but it refuses to roll back down the green.

Two putts downhill to become Masters champion...

Patrick Reed has driver in hand for what the hopes will be the final time this week. Down the middle will do... he's pulled it a tad left, but is relieved to see ball dust fairway. He's short of the bunker on the left and arrives with yard chart in hand...

As Fowler arrived on the green, there was no doubt who the crowds want to win the Masters.

That is a sensational birdie. He sets the target.

  5. Birdie for Fowlerpublished at 23:29 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    R Fowler -14 (18), J Rahm -11 (18)

Rickie Fowler squats down to place his ball, the tangerine-trousered American takes a few paces back, strolls purposefully forward again, and then struts back to eye it up one last time.

Not a flicker of emotion on his face, he strokes his seven-foot putt towards the pin and it's good!

A little fist pump, a shake of his caddie's hand and the tangerine cap comes off for the first time.

    A patient, nervous wait ahead..

One of the most famous finishing holes in golf, this uphill dogleg right is protected by two bunkers at the left elbow of the fairway. A drive hit down the center will often require a middle iron for a second shot to a deep, narrow green guarded by one bunker short-left and another hard right.

The biggest hole of Patrick Reed's career awaits. The 18th, Augusta, the Masters, a one-shot lead...

Every test of Patrick Reed's nerves has been answered today. But now we're in a completely different place, I'd suggest. A miss here - and a birdie for Fowler up ahead - would put them level... brilliant! Reed nails it.

  9. 'Begrudging applause for Reed'published at 23:26 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta National

I'm pleased to see the patrons are on their feet around the 17th green. There has been a feeling all day that they have wanted the others to catch him. Although the applause does feel a bit begrudging.

Patrick Reed might need a pair of binoculars to see the pin from where his second shot has ended up. He's just off the front of the 17th green, putter in hand despite being the length of the world's longest snake away from the drain. Reed rattles up a putt, line looks good, perfect in fact, hitting the hole and jumping on before landing and carrying on past. A five footer back...

How about that from Rickie Fowler. It's got the fans on their feet. The American whips a spinning approach to within touching distance of the flag.

Birdie putt to come. Fowler could just notch the pressure on leader Patrick Reed up a tad here.

"Owwwww," one of the more unusual cries from the Augusta patrons as Jon Rahm middles his drive on the 18th right up alongside Rickie Fowler's.

Rahm just edges out his playing partner by six yards, sticking 305 in the bank.

Jon Rahm, face now almost as red as his top, finds some composure and scrambles back to make a superb par putt from nine feet.

Rickie Fowler taps in from four feet for a par of his own.

    Off to the 18th...

  16. Texas v Texas v Californiapublished at 23:16 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    John Murray
    BBC Radio 5 live

We thought it was going to be the UK v US today but it's turned out to be Texas (Reed) v Texas (Spieth) v California (Fowler). Apparently Texas has more Masters winners than any other US state. I'm not sure how many.

I know Hertfordshire has three Green Jackets.

The putting surface at this uphill par four offers its share of challenges, as it seems to slope off in all directions. The back-right hole location is particularly demanding.

The quiet, concentrated face of Rickie Fowler. Understated in his manner if certainly not his appearance - quite a contrast to Jon Rahm, who bellows in frustration after a wayward approach and whacks his club across his thigh in an outburst of Hulk-like proportions.

The Spaniard's round has drifted a little late on, but he's had a superb tournament.

Fowler, meanwhile, is just off the edge of the green and reaching for his putter for an outside shot at birdie.

    It was never dropping.
