One little sprig might have cost Jordan a second Green Jacket but there is a long way to go yet.

His shot has gone the kind of distance 36-handicap amateurs hit. It's sitting in the rough and there is no way he can get up to the green.

    J Spieth -14 (17)

A furious outburst from Jordan Spieth, and this time he's screaming at a tree.

The American's tee shot clipped a twig on its way through the boulevard of pines and drops well short of where he wanted it.

It's a favourable lie - it could have landed in the woodland - albeit it 267 yards from the flag.

  4. Birdie for Reed, bogey for McIlroypublished at 22:50 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Reed -15, R McIlroy -9 (14)

Right then Reedy... how's your mental strength? Tough is the answer. The American drills straight up the slope into the centre of the can. He bends one knee and double fist-pumps... much like Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore.

McIlroy, meanwhile, has turned into Gilmore on the green. He's missed another short one for another bogey.

    I think it's all over...

    J Rahm -12 (14)

Jon Rahm's slim hopes of a first Masters title disappear into the water at the 15th.

The Spaniard dragged his tee shot slightly right, and had to attack the pin with his approach. He can't beat the hazard guarding the green though - it's in the drink and down it sinks.

    J Spieth -14 (17)

Silence around at Augusta as Jordan Spieth considers how to crack the 17th green.

It's only broken by an intake of breath as the American rolls a putt right on line and eyeballs it all the way to the pin... it looks good, but it just flicks narrowly by the cup and leaves Spieth with a par putt instead.

He taps in. And so to the 18th.

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -10 (13)

This is a run of holes that Patrick Reed has enjoyed playing this week. He's TEN under on the 13th, 14th and 15th this week.

Two of those shots have come on the 14th - now he's looking good for another birdie there. He sticks his second shot to eight feet and has another chance to reclaim that outright lead...

    J Spieth -14 (16)

Jordan Spieth is chatting to every shot, and his words of wisdom appear to be working.

The 24-year-old lobs an approach 162 yards into the heart of the 17th, and begins his walk up to the green almost immediately - giving a half doff of his cap to the applauding patrons.

    An 18-footer for birdie...

Every one of the patrons is on their feet to welcome the young Texan Jordan Spieth to the 17th green.

Meanwhile, Reed's playing partner Rory McIlroy claws one back from Augusta. He reaches the green in two, slides past an eagle effort, makes no mistake with the birdie putt.

Any hope left out there McIlroy fans?

  13. What will Reed be thinking?published at 22:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    Shaun Micheel
2003 US PGA Championship winner, BBC Radio 5 live

He has still has plenty of opportunities but he's got the scar tissue of what's happened in the previous 13 holes. We're hearing lots of roars but unfortunately for Patrick they are not for him.

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -9 (12)

Patrick Reed's cheeks have just reddened slightly. After clipping out to 10 feet on 13, he lines his putt up left... it doesn't move from there. He stares at the ball incredulously. A par will have to do for our co-leader, who is not out on his own at the front for the first time since your Saturday supper.

    J Spieth -14 (16)

Jordan Spieth is oozing confidence. He's made an incredible nine birdies today without dropping a shot.

The 17th tee has caused him a few problems this week. No drama today though, a right good clunk down the middle of the fairway.

  17. Spieth takes share of leadpublished at 22:35 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    J Spieth -14 (16)

We said don't rule out another Jordan Spieth birdie... and he's only gone and sunk one from the fringes of the green.

Spieth's putter is up in flames. "Are you kidding me?" he yells after watching a 33-footer disappear.

No joke, Jordan, you're sharing the Masters lead.

    P Reed -14 (12)

Woah, woah, woah - where's that Patrick Reed approach landed?

A potentially Masters-altering shot from the American... the patrons hold their breath, it looks like it might have landed in Rae's Creek.

Reed has no idea where it's landed.

But what a break for the American. That's anchored in the bank. Reed survives.
