  2. Birdie for DJpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +2 (8)

As the rest of the field take note of Tommy Fleetwood's clubhouse lead, Dustin Johnson kicks an approach on to the near side of the green and it trickles on a touch before coming to a halt 12 feet from home.

For birdie... gently does it, and down it goes!

Brooks Koepka goes beyond the flag. If he rolls this in it will give him the outright lead again.

It scurries up to the cup, nips the edge and stays up. "That bounced so bad," says the defending champ.

  3. Bogey for Fitzpatrickpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    M Fitzpatrick +8 (15)

Not the finish he wanted. That's three shots given away in two holes after over shooting the green at the par-four 15th.

Takes him outside of the top-10.

The trouble with having someone like Tommy Fleetwood in the clubhouse on a good score, I find myself wishing everyone else's balls to go in the rough and roll off the green. Not very sporting I know.

  5. Famous five becomes superb sixpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (F)

So no first 62 in a US Open but Tommy Fleetwood has the consolation of matching the lowest round.

He's in exalted company - just five others have recorded a 63...Justin Thomas, Vijay Singh, Tom Weiskopf, Johnny Miller and the legend that is Jack Nicklaus.

A seven-under 63 sets a decent mark for those out on the course. All he can do now, is wait...

  7. Fleetwood sets +2 clubhouse targetpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (F)

Tommy Fleetwood acknowledges the supportive fans gathered round the 18th green who are hollering "Fleetwood. Fleetwood. Fleetwood."

The Southport man removes his cap, pushes his flowing locks back off his forehead and replaces his headwear.

Ian Finnis, his caddie, gets down behind the ball. Offers a word or two of advice.

Fleetwood lines it up. Satisfied he's picked his line, he hits it. It's going straight in the middle. No! It drifts right at the very last. A par to finish.

  8. Par for Reedpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    P Reed +1 (8)

Five under through eight for joint leader Patrick Reed.

He had a look at a birdie chance from 22 feet, but had to settle for a tap-in par.

  9. DJ saves parpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +2 (7)

Dustin Johnson left his tee shot short, he throws that one up to the green with a wedge and watches it hunker down a few feet from the flag. A way to save.

Brooks Koepka is five feet from the flag, looking to wipe out that bogey at the last. This to retake the lead... he's got it all wrong, it's ended up further away from the cup than it started!

Now Koepka has a job on to save par. It bobbles pin-wards and drops, to Brooks' relief.

  10. Double bogey for Fitzpatrickpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    M Fitzpatrick +7 (14)

This course still has some teeth.

Matthew Fitzpatrick takes the scenic route down the par-four 14th.

He then three putts from 18 feet and he's back to one under for the day.

  11. More magic from Fleetwoodpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (17)

One more good drive Tommy. Fleetwood on the 18th tee. Another 280+ yard drive into the middle of the fairway.

One more good iron shot Tommy. Fleetwood from 197 yards...five iron. "Use that wind mate," says his caddie. He starts it out right, draws it in...

"Get there. Get there," he urges his ball. Get there it does. A hop forward. Nine feet left for the first ever 62 in a US Open.

DJ, always with a swagger. The world number one saunters on to the seventh tee, eyeing up the flag at the 180-yard par-three.

"That's terrible..." he says, flopping it into the bank and drift away from the green. That approach was so undercooked it came off his club blue.

Brooks Koepka sees that, dusts off his bogey at the last and homes in on the flag. Superb.

  13. Back-to-back birdies for Hattonpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Hatton +6 (9)

Tyrrell Hatton reaches the turn in one-under-par with a third birdie of the day.

He was off the green at the par-four ninth, but putted up the slope from over 40 feet away to find the cup.

David Howell: Are we living in a video game and the difficulty level got changed before the final round? The difference in scoring today is mindblowing.

  15. Bogey for Koepkapublished at 20:38 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +2 (6)

Brooks Koepka lobs on and watches his effort roll to a halt 16 feet from the flag.

Work to do for the leader... it's oh so close, but not close enough.

The first blemish on the American's card today, he drops to one over par and shares the lead with Patrick Reed.

Dustin Johnson could join them though. A 14-footer for birdie. He leaves it just high of the pin, and rolls in for par.

  17. Fleetwood takes another parpublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (17)

On to the par-three 17th for Tommy Fleetwood. A swing and a look. I think he likes this. And why not? It bangs into the green pin high, six feet to the right.

But it hops on before coming to a stop 20 feet past.

A birdie here and a par down the last and he becomes just the second player to hit a 62 in a major - following Branden Grace at last year's Open Championship.

He sets it on it way, a little left-to-right swing. Decent pace. Not borrowed enough and it nestles next to the cup.

Tommy Fleetwood proving, once again that he is Europe's best player. I would love to see him score a 61. Still think Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson will outmuscle everyone else. It's between them for me.

Somehow Brooks Koepka avoided the long stuff and went even further right into a well-trodden strip of grass. He pops his approach to the front of the green, but it doesn't run on.

Dustin Johnson senses a chance to close the gap.

The world number one floats his second up on to the heart of the green.

  20. Birdie for Reedpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    P Reed +1 (6)

That's a fifth birdie in seven holes for Masters champion Patrick Reed.

He lands his tee shot at the par-three seventh to 12 feet and in it goes.

One shot behind leader Brooks Koepka.
