  1. Pars for Johnson and Koepkapublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +3 (13)

Dustin Johnson reaches for his putter and attacks the flag from the fringes. He leaps out of it, thinking he's given the putt a little to much weight. But that fizzes just past and then puts the brakes on.

Brooks Koepka has the chance to return to level par. Playing down the slope, he rolls it right and it never gets the left break needed to take it down.

Four feet back to make par now...

DJ goes first from close range, jabbing down the throat of the cup. Can Koepka follow suit? Yes.

  2. Par for Reedpublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    P Reed +4 (14)

Patrick Reed was short with his approach into the green at the par-four 14th, but makes the scramble par save with a putt from inside four feet.

Four holes left for the Masters champion who is three of the pace tied for fourth.

  3. Finau bogeyspublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Finau +4, D Berger +4 (12)

Tony Finau flicks his second on the par-four 12th into the guts of the green, his ball stopping right next to playing partner Daniel Berger.

His right-to-left birdie putt sets out too far wide and never looks like coming back. Another par though. No. Wrote too soon. He pushes it. Shot gone.

Berger misses on the low side. He does tap in for par.

  4. Postpublished at 22:06 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +3 (12)

DJ lofts a wedge up into the sky above Shinnecock Hills. It digs in on the green, threatens to waver a little bit and then begins trickling back towards the fringes.

    Those ones were disappearing yesterday...

Brooks Koepka lofts his just over the pin and then comes to a standstill 10 feet or so from the flag.

  5. 70 for Fitzpatrickpublished at 22:04 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    M Fitzpatrick +8 (F)

Matthew Fitzpatrick birdies the last for a level-par 70 final round.

Five dropped shot in as many holes in the middle of the back nine does the damage for the Englishman having played the first 10 holes in a bogey-free four under.

He is just outside of the top-10.

  6. Postpublished at 22:04 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +3 (12)

To the 13th for the leader. He creams an iron off the tee and it runs on down the right side of the fairway.

Dustin Johnson then watches his bounce and bumble along the undulating surface, leaving him a nice sight of the flag.

  7. Play-off formatpublished at 22:02 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

The US Open used to have this great way of deciding their champion golfer if there was a tie after 72 holes. They'd get everybody to come back the next day for 18 more holes.

    Thankfully, that's now changed.

So, to mark your card, if there are two or more players tied at the end of play, it's a two-hole cumulative play-off, using the 17th and 18th.

If that is not enough to decide a winner, it's sudden death over 17 and 18 until we do.

  8. Rose pars, Stenson birdiespublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    J Rose +5, H Stenson +6 (13)

Justin Rose is back on form. He fires to eight feet with his second on the par-four 13th.

He gets a good look at the line and pace from playing partner Henrik Stenson who drains a 40-footer to get to +6.

Can Rose follow him in? No. Misses left edge.

  9. Koepka saves parpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +3 (12)

Brooks Koepka lofts out from the wirey stuff behind the 12th green and the New York crowd get excited as it couples up towards the flag, before trickling on a tad further.

    Drains it. Confident stuff.

Dustin Johnson eases a birdie putt up along the left side of the pin, waiting for it to break right, but it doesn't - he launches into a squat, knees bending together in frustration.

    DJ tidies up.

  10. 'I feel like it's just shy'published at 21:55 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (F)

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

More from Tommy Fleetwood, the clubhouse leader at two over: "I feel quite normal. It's a strange feeling when you've shot a 63 and feel disappointed. Overall though I'm very happy. I'll have to just wait and see.

"Right now I feel like it's just shy but you never know. The more you do it the more you get used to it. It's what we practice for and I believe in myself. I had to trust the clubs and I wish I could go back and hit a couple of different putts.

"If you don't enjoy those moments then there's something wrong. You've got scoreboards all the way round so I knew what was going on. I was more interested in the 62.

"If I went back again I'd hit the same putt on 18. It was just so slow. I hit it left edge like I wanted to.

"I wanted that crowd to be really loud and memorable but it was still great. I'm going to have some lunch and a drink and sit with Finno and Claire and just wait. I'll wait and see what's happening and just hope."

  11. Par for Reedpublished at 21:55 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    P Reed +4 (13)

Patrick Reed is able to find the green in two after finding rough off the tee, but it's just the two-putt par for the American.

Five holes left for the Masters champion.

  12. Birdie for Finaupublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Finau +3, D Berger +4 (11)

Tony Finau is back to where he started the round. A long birdie attempt on the par-three 11th takes a look inside the hole before dropping.

Daniel Berger, from half the distance, can't get his ball to follow suit. Just the par.

  13. Koepka strugglingpublished at 21:52 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +3 (11)

Brooks Koepka's perched with in the knee-deep grass, facing up the slope.

He hacks flag-wards but it runs on behind the green.

Dustin Johnson claws his way on to the green from the middle of the fairway, sticking it 15 feet out.

  14. Rose still fightingpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    J Rose +5 (12)

Is Justin Rose back in business? The 2013 US Open champion lands his approach on the 12th to six feet and rolls in the birdie putt.

As Tommy Fleetwood showed a little earlier there are birdies to be made over the next few holes.

  15. Postpublished at 21:49 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +3 (11)

So Brooks Koepka is six over for his first three rounds down the back nine this week.

And the leader has just bogeyed the 11th.

Tommy Fleetwood must be perched on the edge of his chair reading our live text coverage (possibly...) right now.

Now Koepka's drawn it right off the tee at 12 too, more rough to contend with.

Dustin Johnson heads into the longer stuff and back out again.

  18. 71 for Caseypublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    P Casey +10 (F)

Paul Casey ends his week with a one-over 71 and his best round of the week leaves him just inside the top-20.

  19. Bogeys for Koepka & Johnsonpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka +1, D Johnson +3 (11)

A touch over 30 feet for DJ to make birdie. It runs out of gas about half way up the slope and just about chugs on to within a putter's length of the pin.

All the pressure on Brooks Koepka, though. Twelve feet from the cup for bogey. Superb! Down it goes, and he's done tremendously well to just escape with the one dropped shot.

And now Dustin Johnson is wavering under the pressure. He misses a simple par putt to bogey the 11th.

    It's on...
