Another US Open finishes, another US Open trophy heads to Brooks Koepka's mantelpiece.

Back-to-back titles for the American, who becomes the first player to achieve such a feat since Curtis Strange 29 years ago.

And what a weekend for England's Tommy Fleetwood, within touching distance of a first major win but ultimately settling for the runner-up spot.

As for us, it's time to wrap things up and have a lie down after an at times breathtaking and mind-boggling, but always gripping tournament at Shinnecock Hills.

Here's more from Tommy Fleetwood: "The best players are up there trying to win. He's (Koepka) one of the best players in the world. It wasn't great for me but it was great to watch as a fellow golfer.

"Just getting that close is the ultimate thing that I will take from this. It's nice as a golfer to have that hard work start paying off. Hopefully for me this is just one stage in me winning majors.

"I'll continue to put in the hard work and surround myself with the people I need. As my career goes on it might be disappointing now but people outside are telling me I'm getting closer and closer.

"I can only go up from here and that's to win one. There's no point complaining about the set up or conditions. I'm happy with how I played and have taken a lot from this experience."

Brooks Koepka's brother was on a flight to London watching those final few holes. This has got us wondering how he celebrated when that last putt went in now...

More from Brooks Koepka, on his final round today: "To make those eight, 10-foot par saves, sometimes they're better than making birdie."

And on heading to the 18th with a two-stroke lead: "It's nice, that little bit of cushion. We knew left was OK (after dragging his approach).

"It's not the shot you want to hit in, but it's tougher than it looks, I have got to be honest with you."

And here's the US Open champion: "To everyone at Shinnecock, to opening it up for us, I want to thank everyone who made that possible.

"It really, really was testing this week to be honest with you. And the fans, thank you for coming out. You guys were loud, I loved it.

"This is incredbile. I dont think I could have dreamed of going back to back. It's truly special and I am honoured.

"I always felt like I had a chance. I was never out of it. I just needed to keep grinding. I knew the conditions would ease up a bit and I took advantage of it."

And so, to the presentation...

Here's runner-up Tommy Fleetwood: "It goes quite quick, funnily enough. It was fine, I was watching the golf. I had Frankie, it's my first ever Father's Day being a father.

"It was good as a golf fan watching how he (Koepka) handled himself down the stretch. As a player that was one behind him it wasn't great to watch, but I have great respect for him.

"I started warming up as I thought I better - all in all it's been a great day.

"This never comes off, but we did say last night 'shoot the best ever US Open score and you'll have a chance', but that never comes off...

"I wanted to be two better yesterday and I would've felt I was really in the tournament. Today is proof you never know what this game is going to bring around. There was a good score out there, and I'm glad I shot it.

"I always liked watching the US Open as a kid because it was a reality check."

We're waiting for Brooks Koepka to be presented with the trophy, he's becoming pretty used to this winning the US Open lark...

Just one top-five finish in the other three majors, placing fourth at the 2016 PGA Championship.

So this is how the final leaderboard shapes up. A fantastic week for Tommy Fleetwood, but even more so for Brooks Koepka...

Daniel Berger, who had a share of the lead heading into the final round, polishes of his US Open with a par to finish on six over.

Tony Finau can't rattle in his bogey putt, he drops two shots at the last to finish on five over for the tournament.

Tony Finau isn't enjoying the strong finish at 18 he'd have hoped for, taking the scenic route up to the green by finding the rough off the tee, shanking out to some more hay on the left and then cupping one into the bunker...

It means Tommy Fleetwood will finish outright second, his best ever finish at a major, improving on his fourth place at the US Open last year.

All hugs and smiles in the Koepka camp.

He embraces his caddie, before heading off through a path of spectators, slapping hands and high-fiving as the New York crowd lap up the American's success.

Koepka becomes the first player to defend the US Open title since Curtis Strange in 1988-1989.

Brooks Koepka's par putt misses, just breaking left before the hole, and instead he rolls in for bogey to finish on one over.

Brooks Koepka has a two-stroke lead. He can probably afford to drop one here, with Tony Finau three shots back on the hole behind.

Dustin Johnson finishes superbly with the pressure off, nailing a putt from 13 feet for birdie to finish on three over.

Back on the tee, Tony Finau leaks his drive out way to the right. He's deep in the hay, with presumably zero chance of reaching the green.

Brooks Koepka goes wading through the long grass to take a short cut to his ball.

He's come off the lower rungs of the stand and out on to a well-groomed verge behind a bunker.

Shooting down the hill, he clips on and eases it around, down the bank and behind the flag.

Wonderful shot.
