  1. Par for Fleetwoodpublished at 20:29 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (16)

Tommy Fleetwood has a good look a this line from behind his ball. He settles over his ball. Uphill. Doesn't hit it. His first tentative putt for a while. Has he been looking at the scoreboard?

It feels like he's going to need to birdie at least one more hole because at the other end of the course, the Masters champion Patrick Reed is also putting well..

  2. Par for Fitzpatrickpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    M Fitzpatrick +5 (13)

Two-putt par for Matthew Fitzpatrick. He was in the middle of the fairway off the tee but could not take advantage.

  3. Postpublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    B Koepka E, D Johnson +2 (5)

Is that the slice of luck Brooks Koepka needs to retain the US Open?

He draws a tee shot a long way right, but it scuttles into a decent lie for the defending champion. And from there he'll have a shot at the green.

Dustin Johnson pulls his just wide of a couple of bunkers lurking to the right of the fairway.

  4. Fleetwood with another birdie chancepublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (15)

Tommy Fleetwood, out with a fairway wood, whistles his ball down the left-hand side, a couple of bounces on the short grass and it hops into the first cut, about 70 yards short of the green.

It's sitting up nicely though and he casually flips a wedge on to the front edge and it hops, skips and jumps up to 15 feet.

Andrew Priestley: Tommy Fleetwood showing the field that birdies and a low round is possible. Expecting Dustin Johnson to come through to win with his ability to overpower the back nine.

  6. Par for Reedpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    P Reed +2, K Aphibarnrat +7 (6)

Par is still a good score. That's only the second of the day for Patrick Reed to go with his four birdies.

He has hit all six greens in regulation.

  7. Birdies for Johnson & Koepkapublished at 20:23 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    D Johnson +2, B Koepka E (5)

Dustin Johnson can't drain that lengthy eagle putt, but he pops in for birdie from close range.

Brooks Koepka's turn, and he rolls up to within three feet of the pin for before also zipping it into the heart of the cup to move to level par.

    T Fleetwood +2 (15)

Another controlled drive from Tommy Fleetwood finds the 16th fairway. He's left himself 343 yards to the hole on the par-five hole though so a decent lay-up followed by a chip, and, dare we dream, another birdie putt?

Ok. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. But...he's also got a (dare we say it) 62 in his sights.

    I know. Sssshhhhh....

Ali Mason: When Tommy Fleetwood's hot, he’s scorching. Set a score and watch everyone crumble from the clubhouse.

    D Johnson +3, B Koepka +1 (4)

Tee to green in two sizzling shots from Dustin Johnson.

Now he needs to warm that putter up... he's got a 22-foot putt for eagle.

Brooks Koepka, the leader, manages to scramble his approach out of the rough and up on to the front edge of the green.

  12. Bogey for Fitzpatrickpublished at 20:16 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    M Fitzpatrick +5 (12)

First dropped shot of the day for Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Pays the price for a poor tee shot and it's a three-putt bogey at the par-four 12th.

  13. Bogey for Rosepublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    J Rose +7, H Stenson +5 (5)

Justin Rose's hopes of a second US Open title, and taking the world number one spot, are fading fast.

The 2013 champion chips out of the bunker superbly to set up a makeable par putt, but it kisses the cup and stays up.

Frustration on the face of Rose as he adds to that double at the last with another bogey.

  14. Eighth birdie for Fleetwoodpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +2 (15)

Oh. My. Goodness. What. A. Putt.

Tommy Fleetwood can't miss at the minute. 30 feet for birdie? No problem. Right in the middle.

    He couldn't, could he?

  15. Fleetwood sets up another birdie but Poulter driftingpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +3 (14), I Poulter +10 (8)

Tommy Fleetwood caresses a 288-yard drive down the middle of the 15th fairway. I wonder if he has a number in his head that he wants to get to?

He's got a wedge in his hand and doesn't quite fly it far enough. But he's on the (yellowy-brown) green and has a 30-footer for birdie.

Ian Poulter, for so long a contender this week, is drifting away. A 31-foot par putt stays on the eighth green and he taps in for a bogey to drop to +10.

  16. Rose in trouble at fivepublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    J Rose +6, H Stenson +5 (4)

Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson make their way down the par-five fifth.

A chance for Rose to recover from that double at the last?

He's going the scenic route. Bunker off the tee, then he finds some rough, before sending his third shot plummeting straight into some more sand flanking the green.

Stenson overcooks his approach and it skips right across the smooth stuff and off the other side.

  17. Another birdie for Reedpublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    P Reed +2, K Aphibarnrat +6 (5)

Patrick Reed fails to find the fairway off the tee. He hits his second into a bunker at the front of the green. His third out of the sand is a tricky one and it's 19 feet short.

No problem. Reed judges the putt to perfection and that's a fourth birdie in five holes.

Reed is now alone in second and just one behind Brooks Koepka.

  18. Koepka saves parpublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    D Johnson +3, B Koepka +1 (4)

Koepka reaches for his putter, and starts his effort way left of the flag. He's read that break superbly, curling back down the bank towards the pin.

It stays up, but will be a well-saved par.

Dustin Johnson steadies himself, arranges his trousers ready for a birdie putt and then zips it right of the target. Par for the world number one.

  19. Bogeys for Finau and Bergerpublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Finau +5, D Berger +5 (3)

Back-to-back bogeys for Tony Finau - he's missed a short par putt on the third - and the American is off to a poor start.

And Daniel Berger is matching him putt for putt. He too misses his par effort.

Both are sliding down the leaderboard at a rate of knots.

  20. Fleetwood ripping up Shinnecockpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 17 June 2018

    T Fleetwood +3 (14)

The USGA is not going to be happy with Tommy Fleetwood. The Englishman is ripping up Shinnecock Hills today.

A 21-foot birdie putt on the 14th has moved him to within two of the lead. It's a seventh birdie of the day and puts him at six under for his round.

He shot a four-under 66 in round two, if he betters that today he's going to be setting a challenging score in the clubhouse.
