    1 UP Rahm v Woods (5)

Jon Rahm is fighting a rearguard action on the fifth.

He is at Tiger Woods' mercy as the American lines up a 10-footer to win the hole. It misses!

But Rahm needs a 10-footer to halve it. It swirls around the gurgler and finally drops!

A roar from the Spaniard, who remains one up.

  2. Rose close on sixpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Rose v Simpson 1 UP (5)

Justin Rose had a long and detailed discussion with his caddy about what the various flags around the sixth green translated to in terms of wind direction.

Whatever conclusion they came to was right.

He stiffs a pinpoint second up to within five feet. Simpson is 10 feet away.

One of Tiger Woods’ entourage is handing out Ryder Cup badges to kids on the side of the course between holes - she’s made their day.

Bigger smiles than Tommy Fleetwood when he watched Francesco Molinari roll in on the 14th yesterday.

Anon: J Staggs is going about it the wrong way. I am shut away in the kitchen with cooking and the radio - today's food will take a VERY long time to prepare.

  5. Molinari is off and runningpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Molinari v Mickelson

The Tiger tamer and one half of the Moliwood partnership, Francesco Molinari, is the next cab on the rank. He's earned four points from four and is taking on Phil Mickelson, who had a horror show in Friday's foursomes with Bryson DeChambeau.

Is this a banker? On paper, perhaps. But golf ain't played on paper, silly.

  6. Woods welcomedpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP Rahm v Woods (4)

    Alex Bysouth
BBC Sport at Le Golf National

Tiger Woods is perhaps the one American player getting a welcoming reception from the European fans this afternoon - there’s a huge clamour to follow the golfing great, especially after he capped his comeback by winning the Tour Championship last weekend.

Jon Rahm has been enjoying the cries of “Rahmbo” or “let’s go Jon!”, but Tiger barely blinks at the many mentions of his name. Guess you get used to it.

  7. Fleetwood back to all squarepublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Fleetwood A/S Finau

Tommy Fleetwood has just watched Tony Finau miss from off the green, and has a 15-foot putt to draw this level.

Can he make it? BOOM. Fleetwood has got his Mac back.

  8. Garcia goes one up on firstpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP Garcia v Fowler (1)

(To the tune of Please don't take my sunshine away) Sergio Garcia, he drinks sangria, he came from Espagna to bring us joy.

The Spaniard moves one up on Rickie Fowler after a pinpoint approach to the first and a cool five-foot slot.

  9. Thomas pulls it back to one downpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP McIlroy v Thomas (8)

On the par-three eighth, Rory McIlroy cannot find the green, but he's chipped to four feet.

Justin Thomas has an 18-foot putt for birdie. He might be a Ryder Cup rookie, but he's not a US PGA Champion for nothing and he downs it.

US back to one down and Thomas has his tail up as he roars in celebration.

    1 UP Olesen v Spieth (2)

Oh yes! The longest-range putt to drop for Europe so far today as Thorbjorn Olesen sweeps in from 15 feet to move ahead against Jordan Spieth.

The American is inscrutable as ever.

    Rose v Simpson 1 UP (5)

Justin Rose nips back at Webb Simpson. The Englishman had two putts from five feet to win the fifth.

    He only needed the one.

  13. Rahm and Woods falter to half on fourpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP Rahm v Woods (4)

Jon Rahm has squandered an excellent chance to turn the screw on Tiger Woods on the fourth green.

He has three-putted from 35 feet, botching a five-footer on the way back, to open the door for the American.

Woods with a five-footer to win the hole and level the match.

Nope! After clutch putts to halve holes on the last two greens he misses one to win one.

  14. 'Cold fury running through his veins'published at 12:36 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    2 UP McIlroy v Thomas (7)

    Jamie Donaldson
Ryder Cup 2014 winner for BBC Radio 5 live

Rory McIlroy looks very calm today. It looks like he's doing everything a bit slower, he looks really comfortable and he's playing that way.

He's got that cold fury running through his veins at the moment and he looks like a different player.

He's holed some fantastic putts. A big putt on three, a big putt on four and a massive putt on five.

  15. 'He's like a California surf bum'published at 12:35 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Poulter A/S Johnson (1)

    Andrew Magee
PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Has Dustin Johnson been a disappointment? Let’s see, he’s the World Number one. Yes. He’s not made putts, not hit fairways and he doesn’t look like he’s inspired to be on a team. He’s just too cool for this, I guess.

He’s like a California surf bum. Too cool to get down and dirty and get his hair messy, it just seems like he’s not going to get into the mud.

  16. Flopping heaven from McIlroypublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    2 UP McIlroy v Thomas (7)

Rory showing his mettle here. His second shot must go up and over a sloped portion of the fringe from about 20 yards and lands to within a couple of feet. Flopping hell. Or more like heaven.

Justin Thomas putts to a similar distance and it's hole halved. Rory showing some lovely touches already.

  17. Sergio close to scaling Faldo Towerpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

A self-confessed loner in his playing days, Europe's highest ever points scorer Sir Nick Faldo (25) is already in his tower ready for the first tee off.

By the end of the day though Sergio Garcia could be King of the castle so to speak.

The Spaniard currently on 24½ points would move ahead of the Englishman if he wins his match against Rickie Fowler (12:29 BST).

  18. Garcia v Fowler on the first teepublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Garcia v Fowler

Sergio Garcia - the 2017 Masters champion - is up next on the tee for Europe. He has seen the back end of a Ryder Cup plenty of times, but with 6,900 people looking over your shoulder while you hit your opening tee shot. That could rattle even his cage.

Young-ish gun Rickie Fowler - one point from three matches this week - is his opponent.

  19. Woods chasing Rahm on fourpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    1 UP Rahm v Woods (4)

Tiger Woods is being outmuscled by Jon Rahm so far, clinging to the Spaniard's coattails up the fourth.

The American hacks out the rough with his second while Rahm pitches up to the front of the green in two.

The 14-timer major man will have to keep making some lengthy putts to stay in touch.

  20. Fleetwood back to one downpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 30 September 2018

    Fleetwood v Finau 1UP (3)

Tommy Fleetwood's eagle putt didn't drop but it's a gimme and he'll take a birdie on the par-five third.

Tony Finau misses from 12 feet so the European is back up to one down.

    Let's go Tommy!
